Fuel injector and electrical box of the fuel injector

A configuration is provided for a fuel injector for a common rail fuel system. In one example, the fuel injector may include a housing, an inner chamber enclosed by the housing, and a flow limiting valve. The flow limiting valve may be arranged at a downstream end of the inner chamber and also enclosed by the housing. This configuration may allow the fuel injector housing to have sufficient wall strength to withstand high pressure fuel injection and may allow effective fuel supply cut off when fuel cut off is demanded.

Fuel injector

Various systems and methods are provided for adjusting operating parameters of an internal combustion engine. In one example, a system may include adjusting an amount of advance of a fuel injection timing of a plurality of fuel injectors of an internal combustion engine relative to top dead center (TDC) responsive to engine output demand, where, as the engine output demand increases, the amount of advance first decreases and then increases. In this way, an amount of vehicle emissions may be decreased while an amount of fuel consumption is decreased.

Systems and methods for an engine

Various systems are provided a piston for an engine. The piston has a piston crown, which includes a plurality of protrusions for enhancing mixing in a combustion chamber. As one example, a piston crown includes a plurality of protrusions extending outward from a top surface of the piston crown and spaced apart from one another around a circumference of the piston crown, each protrusion of the plurality of protrusions increasing in height and decreasing in width as the protrusion extends outward from a central axis of the piston crown.

A pulse detonation combustor (PDC) includes a combustion tube, an inlet located on an upstream end of the combustion tube which receives a flow of a fuel/air mixture, an enhanced DDT region located within the tube downstream of the inlet, a nozzle disposed on a downstream end of the tube and a fortified region disposed downstream of the enhanced DDT region and upstream of the nozzle. A combustion initiation system that provides multiple initiation locations at different axial stations along the length of the tube are positioned downstream of the inlet and upstream of the fortified region. The initiator system is operable to initiate combustion of a fuel-air mixture within the tube at a selected one of the initiation locations.

Variable initiation location system for pulse detonation combustor

A detonation chamber and a pulse detonation combustor including a detonation chamber, wherein the detonation chamber includes a plurality of aerodynamic jets disposed adjacent an exterior of a sidewall of the detonation chamber. The detonation chamber further includes a plurality of openings formed in the sidewall of the detonation chamber, wherein each of the plurality of openings is in fluidic communication with one of the plurality of aerodynamic jets. The plurality of aerodynamic jets are adapted to create a plurality of jet flows of a fluid within the detonation chamber during a combustion cycle defining a plurality of initiation obstacles within the detonation chamber to enhance a turbulence of a fluid flow and flame acceleration through the detonation chamber.

Fluidic deflagration-to-detonation initiation obstacles

A detonation chamber and a pulse detonation combustor including a detonation chamber, wherein the detonation chamber includes a plurality of initiation obstacles and at least one injector in fluid flow communication with each of the plurality of initiation obstacles. The plurality of initiation obstacles are disposed on at least a portion of an inner surface of the detonation chamber with each of the plurality of initiation obstacles defining a low pressure region at a trailing edge. The plurality of initiation obstacles are configured to enhance a turbulence of a fluid flow and flame acceleration through the detonation chamber. The at least one injector in provides a cooling fluid flow to each of the plurality of initiation obstacles, wherein the cooling fluid flow is one of a fuel, a combination of fuels, air, or a fuel/air mixture.
