Systems and methods are provided for dynamic power allocation of a first maximum uplink power and a second maximum uplink power, wherein the first maximum uplink power is used by a first transmitter to communicate with a first access point and the second maximum uplink power is used by a second transmitter to communicate with a second access point (dual connectivity). Network parameters are determined based on characteristics and/or qualities of the downlink and/or uplink signals of a wireless communication session. In response to the determined network parameters, the WCD may increase a first maximum uplink power and decrease a second maximum uplink power in order to establish or maintain dual connectivity without exceeding the device's maximum total uplink power.

Exemplary embodiments described herein include systems, methods, and processing nodes for reducing frequency interference in a wireless communication system. A high-power user equipment (HPUE) operating in an enhanced power mode with a first access node can be detected beyond the range of a low-power user equipment (LPUE) or a HPUE operating in a standard power mode. The HPUE can be handed over to a second, neighboring access node. A maximum allowable power of the HPUE can be reduced so that the HPUE is operating in a standard power mode.

A system for selecting a sub-carrier spacing includes an access node configured to deploy a radio air interface to provide wireless services to a plurality of wireless devices. The access node includes a processor configured to determine a value of at least one parameter relating to at least one of radio frequency impairment, mobility, and service latency. The processor is also configured to compare the value of the at least one parameter with a predetermined threshold. The processor is further configured to select the sub-carrier spacing from a plurality of sub-carrier spacings based on a result of the comparison.

Systems and methods are described for donor access node (DeNB) selection at a relay access node (AN). A plurality of DeNBs may be identified, the DeNBs being located within a radio range of the relay AN. A metric may be calculated at the relay AN and used by the relay AN to select multiple, preferred DeNBs from the plurality of DeNBs. The relay AN may simultaneously request a connection to each of the multiple, preferred DeNBs. Data signals may be combined for transport at the relay AN and sent to end-user wireless devices, the multiple, preferred DeNBs, or both.

Systems, methods, and processing nodes for performing uplink power control of a high-powered wireless device in a wireless network based on first determining that a wireless device is capable of operating in a high-powered transmission mode, performing real-time adjustments to one or both of a pathloss scaling parameter or a power headroom level scaling parameter associated with the high-powered wireless device, and instructing the high-powered wireless device to utilize a transmit power level based on the adjusted one or both of the pathloss scaling parameter or the power headroom level scaling parameter.
