An improved pipeline leak detecting pig apparatus configured to locate leaks in the wall of a pipeline as the apparatus is pushed by pressurized fluid through the pipeline. The apparatus is configured with or without absolute pressure sensors and a flow meter configured to detect fluid flow through a controlled volume on the pig passing a leak in the pipeline and pressurized fluid in the controlled volume escapes through the leak. Pressure sensors, when provided, provide a secondary confirmation of the presence of a leak and the degree of severity when an absolute pressure drop in the controlled volume occurs. Onboard microcontrollers record continuous odometer pulses, apparatus diagnostic information and pressure and flow measurements for later analysis, quantification and determination of leak location.

Apparatus and method for inline leak detection and quantification

An apparatus including an assembly associated with a downhole tool configured to thermally isolate a thermally sensitive component. Components of the assembly include an external isolating vessel; a passive thermal barrier encased in the external isolating vessel; at least one electronic component housed within the downhole tool for monitoring geothermal well properties; and at least one thermally sensitive electronics carrier package positioned within the passive thermal barrier comprising thermally sensitive electronic components. The passive thermal barrier ideally comprises an additively manufactured layered labyrinthine shell structure, a plurality of polarly phased centralizers between shell layers and minimal centralizing contact points on its exterior shell, to minimize known heat transfer modes associated with the external isolating vessel.

Downhole tool with passive barrier

A downhole actuator device is provided for use in directing wellbore fluid to be used in performing work in a wellbore by convening a pressure source into a force exerted over a distance. The core components of the downhole actuator device include a pressure chamber containing an insertable activation module, an insertable pressure source module capable of generating a pressure or force and a pressure responsive member. The core components of the pressure source module can include one or more of a plurality of optional formats for delivery of the force comprising a solenoid and a mechanical trigger, a non-explosive pyrotechnic device insert, or a charged gas module insert, which, when appropriately combined, sequenced and activated, will open a pressure responsive member that will allow wellbore fluid, at hydrostatic pressure, to enter the tool thereby providing the energy needed to actuate various mechanical and/or hydraulic components downhole. Multiple variations of the device are provided to allow for either pressure activated or surface activated variations of the device. Additional variable components may include a timer circuit, a power module, a proximal pressure actuated piston, various sub connections, a wireline or slickline cable.
