A transcatheter valve prosthesis includes a balloon expandable stent and a prosthetic valve. An inflow portion of the stent includes a plurality of crowns and a plurality of struts with each crown being formed between a pair of opposing struts. Endmost inflow side openings and endmost inflow crowns are formed at the inflow end of the stent and the inflow end of the stent has a total of twelve endmost inflow crowns. An outflow portion of the stent includes a plurality of crowns and a plurality of struts with each crown being formed between a pair of opposing struts. Endmost outflow crowns are formed at the outflow end of the stent and the outflow end of the stent has a total of six endmost outflow crowns. The prosthetic valve is disposed within and secured to the stent.

Balloon expandable frame for transcatheter implantation of a cardiac valve prosthesis

A transcatheter valve prosthesis includes a stent having a crimped configuration for delivery within a vasculature and an expanded configuration for deployment within a native heart valve. The stent includes at least one axial frame member. The transcatheter valve prosthesis includes at least one outflow marker positioned on the at least one axial frame member. The transcatheter heart valve prosthesis may include inflow markers positioned within the inflow portion of the stent. The transcatheter heart valve prosthesis may include two outflow markers disposed on axial frame members and being circumferentially and longitudinally offset from each other. The markers are configured to aid in axial and circumferential aligned of the transcatheter heart valve prosthesis within a native heart valve.

Devices and methods for multi-alignment of implantable medical devices

Novel tools and techniques are provided for implementing protection of at least one tissue layer of a medical device or implant during crimping of the medical device or implant. In various embodiments, an implant tissue protection tool may include an outer portion configured to surround one or more outer segments of at least one tissue layer of a medical device to be implanted into a body of a subject and at least one protrusion (which may be affixed to a surface of the outer portion) configured to minimize or prevent occurrence (or likelihood of occurrence) of the at least one tissue layer (in some cases, leaflet material, or the like) of the medical device passing through at least one opening defined by a frame structure of the medical device during crimping of the medical device by a crimping device in preparation for implantation into the body of the subject.

Implant tissue protection tool

A transcatheter valve prosthesis includes a stent and a prosthetic valve. The stent includes an inflow portion, an outflow portion, and a transition portion extending between the inflow portion and the outflow portion. The transition portion includes a plurality of axial frame members, and three of the plurality of the axial frame members are commissure posts. At least two of the plurality of the axial frame members are commissure posts having a first end connected to a crown of the inflow portion and an unattached second end disposed within the outflow portion such that a pair of struts of the outflow portion intersect each commissure post at a mid-portion thereof. The prosthetic valve is configured to substantially block blood flow in one direction to regulate blood flow through a central lumen of the stent.

Balloon expandable stent with lengthened commissure posts for transcatheter implantation of a cardiac valve prosthesis

Methods for purging a balloon catheter of air. An inflation fluid is inserted into a balloon and an inflation lumen of a balloon catheter. The inflation lumen is in fluid communication with the balloon. The balloon catheter is positioned in an inverted orientation with a distal end thereof disposed below a proximal end thereof. The distal end of the balloon catheter includes a balloon. A vibration source is positioned in direct contact with an outer surface of the balloon catheter. The balloon catheter is vibrated via the vibration source. A vacuum is applied or pulled on the inflation lumen of the balloon catheter. The steps of vibrating the balloon catheter and applying the vacuum are performed simultaneously.

Methods of preparing balloon expandable catheters for cardiac and vascular interventions

A transcatheter valve prosthesis includes a stent and a prosthetic valve disposed within the stent. The stent is balloon expandable and includes an inflow portion, an outflow portion, and a transition portion extending between the inflow portion and the outflow portion. A diameter of an inflow end of the transcatheter valve prosthesis is greater than a diameter of an outflow end of the transcatheter valve prosthesis. The transcatheter valve prosthesis has a tapered profile along an entire height thereof when in the stent is in the expanded configuration. The inflow end of the transcatheter valve prosthesis is configured to sit within and contact an aortic annulus of the native aortic valve and the outflow end of the transcatheter valve prosthesis being configured to float within an ascending aorta without contacting the ascending aorta due to the tapered profile of the transcatheter valve prosthesis.

Supra annular tapered balloon expandable stent for transcatheter implantation of a cardiac valve prosthesis

A stent includes a hollow wire formed into a stent pattern. The hollow wire includes an outer member, a lumen extending longitudinally within the hollow wire, at least one opening extending from an outer surface of the outer member to the lumen, and a surface area component within the hollow wire. The surface area component increases the amount of surface area available for tissue in-growth within the hollow wire. More than one surface area component may be utilized. Each surface area component may be disposed within the lumen or the at least one opening of the hollow wire. A pharmacologically or biologically active agent may be disposed within the lumen.

Drug-filled stents to prevent vessel micro-injuries and methods of manufacture thereof

Stents formed from dissimilar materials configured to control tissue growth. A stent may be formed from a composite wire helically wound into a stent having a tubular configuration. The composite wire includes a first wire and a second wire coupled together, the first and second wires being formed from dissimilar metals such that a potential difference is formed when the dissimilar metals are exposed to bodily fluids. The potential difference is configured to inhibit cell proliferation and thereby control tissue growth around the stent after implantation. A stent may be formed from a hollow composite wire including an inner member that includes first and second longitudinal strips formed from dissimilar metals. A stent may be formed from a composite wire having a plurality of windows along a length of the composite wire. An insert formed from a dissimilar metal is disposed within each window of the plurality of windows.

Stents formed from dissimilar metals for tissue growth control

A stent including a hollow wire formed into a stent pattern. The hollow wire includes an outer member having an outer surface and an inner surface, a lumen extending longitudinally within the hollow wire, at least one opening extending from the outer surface of the outer member to the lumen, and a plurality of filaments extending longitudinally within the lumen. The plurality of filaments increases the amount of surface area available for tissue in-growth within the lumen. Each filament of the plurality of filaments is spaced from adjacent filaments of the plurality of filaments, and the spacing between adjacent filaments of the plurality of filaments is configured to permit tissue in-growth between the adjacent filaments.

Drug-filled stents with filaments for increased lumen surface area and method of manufacture thereof

Methods and apparatus are disclosed for filling a therapeutic substance or drug within a hollow wire that forms a stent. The stent is placed within a chamber housing a fluid drug formulation. During filling, the chamber is maintained at or near the vapor-liquid equilibrium of the solvent of the fluid drug formulation. To fill the stent, a portion of the stent is placed into contact with the fluid drug formulation until a lumenal space defined by the hollow wire is filled with the fluid drug formulation via capillary action. After filling is complete, the stent is retracted such that the stent is no longer in contact with the fluid drug formulation. The solvent vapor pressure within the chamber is reduced to evaporate a solvent of the fluid drug formulation. A wicking means may control transfer of the fluid drug formulation into the stent.

Apparatus and methods for filling a drug eluting medical device via capillary action

Methods and apparatus are disclosed for filling a therapeutic substance or drug within a hollow wire that forms a stent. The stent is placed within a chamber housing a fluid drug formulation. During filling, the chamber is maintained at or near the vapor-liquid equilibrium of the solvent of the fluid drug formulation. To fill the stent, at least a portion of the stent is placed into contact with the fluid drug formulation until a lumenal space defined by the hollow wire is at least partially filled with the fluid drug formulation via capillary action. After filling is complete, the stent is retracted such that the stent is no longer in contact with the fluid drug formulation. The solvent vapor pressure within the chamber is reduced to evaporate a solvent of the fluid drug formulation. A wicking means may control transfer of the fluid drug formulation into the stent.

A hybrid stent prosthesis including a biodegradable tubular body, a first non-biodegradable self-expanding ring coupled to a proximal end of the biodegradable body, and a second non-biodegradable self-expanding ring coupled to a distal end of the biodegradable body. The hybrid stent includes a mechanism for longitudinally compressing the tubular body to increase the radial or hoop strength thereof. The longitudinally compressing mechanism may be protruding elements coupled to and extending radially outward from the hybrid stent or elastomeric compression bands or tethers extending between the non-biodegradable rings. The compression bands may be pre-connected to both non-biodegradable rings prior to stent delivery, or may be connected to one non-biodegradable ring prior to insertion and connected to the other non-biodegradable ring in situ.
