An apparatus includes an auto-alignment laser configured to generate an auto-alignment laser beam. The apparatus also includes a spectral beam combiner having a diffraction grating. The diffraction grating is configured to diffract multiple input laser beams to produce a combined beam having a higher power or energy compared to the individual input laser beams. The diffraction grating is also configured to diffract the auto-alignment laser beam so that a portion of the auto-alignment laser beam co-propagates in a common direction with the combined beam. Wavelengths of the input laser beams and the auto-alignment laser beam may be selected such that portions of the input laser beams and the portion of the auto-alignment laser beam diffract from the diffraction grating in the common direction. The portion of the auto-alignment laser beam that co-propagates with the combined beam may include a higher-order diffraction of the auto-alignment laser beam from the diffraction grating.

Spectral beam combiner supporting embedded auto-alignment scheme

An apparatus includes an in-line reflective optical system configured to receive an input optical beam and provide an output optical beam. The in-line reflective optical system includes first and second powered mirrors aligned back-to-back. The first powered mirror is configured to reflect the input optical beam as a first intermediate beam. The in-line reflective optical system also includes first and second reflective surfaces respectively configured to reflect the first intermediate beam as a second intermediate beam and to reflect the second intermediate beam as a third intermediate beam. The second powered mirror is configured to reflect the third intermediate beam as the output optical beam. A spacing between the first and second reflective surfaces and the first and second powered mirrors is adjustable to control a focus of the output optical beam without introducing boresight error in the output optical beam.

Compact in-line reflective optical beam expander or reducer with adjustable focus

A laser sensor system including a common optical bench that is configured to receive and process different beams of a high energy laser (HEL). The common optical bench is configured to handle the different beams using a modular set of optical components. Optical components of the common optical bench include a filtering device configured to reduce the power of the beams, a common collecting optical element that is configured to set an imaging position and focal length for the beams, a position sensitive detector (PSD) arrangement that is configured to measure angular and positional errors in the beams, and various compaction optical elements, such as mirrors, that are configured to enable compaction of the laser sensor system by increasing the focal length of the beams.

Ultra-compact, modular laser sensor for tactical environments

A system includes at least one controller configured to determine an optical phase modulation pattern for suppression of stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) in a combined beam that emerges off a diffractive grating in a spectral beam combining (SBC) system and maximization of an output power of the combined beam. The system also includes multiple master oscillators configured to generate multiple beams in the SBC system. The system also includes multiple phase modulators configured to phase modulate the multiple beams according to the determined optical phase modulation pattern. The system also includes multiple fiber amplifier chains configured to receive the phase modulated beams and output the beams from the master oscillators to multiple delivery fibers for subsequent combining into the combined beam at the diffractive grating.

System and method for spectral line shape optimization for spectral beam combining of fiber lasers

A system includes a beam splitter, camera, and a position sensitive detector (PSD). The beam splitter splits a beam ensemble into a first beam portion and a second beam portion. The camera PSD detects an image profile of the first beam portion. The PSD detects a position of the second beam portion.
