The present disclosure provides an article including a layer having a nanostructured first surface including nanofeatures and an opposing second surface, and an organic layer including a major surface attached to a portion of the nanofeatures. The nanostructured first surface includes protruding features that are formed of a single composition and/or recessed features. The nanofeatures and the major surface of the second layer together define at least one void. The present disclosure also provides a method of making the article including contacting nanofeatures of a layer having a nanostructured surface with a major surface of an organic layer and reacting at least one material to secure the two layers together. In addition, the present disclosure provides an optical information display and an OLED device including the article. The nanostructured surface of the article is protected from damage and contamination by the organic layer.

Articles including nanostructured surfaces and enclosed voids, and methods of making same

Transfer tapes include a releasing substrate and an adhesive layer adjacent to the surface of the releasing substrate. The adhesive layer includes a cured copolymer prepared from a reaction mixture that includes at least one alkyl (meth)acrylate, at least one ethylenically unsaturated silane, and an initiator. The adhesive layer is a pressure sensitive adhesive at room temperature and is convertible into a ceramic-like layer by bake-out at a temperature of from 170-500&#xb0;.

Polymeric adhesive layers as ceramic precursors

Transfer films, articles made therewith, and methods of making and using transfer films to form an electrical stack are disclosed. The transfer films may include a plurality of co-extensive electrical protolayers forming an electrical protolayer stack, at least selected or each electrical protolayer independently comprising at least 25 wt % sacrificial material and a thermally stable material and having a uniform thickness of less than 25 micrometers. The transfer films may include a plurality of co-extensive electrical protolayers forming an electrical protolayer stack, at least selected or each protolayer independently exhibiting a complex viscosity of between 10and 10Poise at a shear rate of 100/s when heated to a temperature between its Tand T.

Electrical multilayer lamination transfer films

The present disclosure provides lamination transfer films and use of the lamination transfer films, particular in the fabrication of architectural glass elements, such as those used in Insulated Glass Units (IGUs). The lamination transfer films may be used to transfer functional layers and structures. The lamination transfer films may include a support film that can be removed during the transfer process, and the transferred materials are primarily inorganic. The resulting transferred structures on glass generally have high photo- and thermal-stability, and therefore can successfully be applied to the glass surfaces that are interior to the cavity within an IGU. The lamination transfer films can also be patterned such that macroscopic patterns of microoptical elements can be applied on a glass surface.

Microoptics for glazing

Curable, coatable compositions include silane surface-treated inorganic nanoparticles with a high refractive index, and a curable reaction mixture. The curable reaction mixture includes a first (meth)acrylate monomer comprising a high refractive index (meth)acrylate monomer with a refractive index of 1.6 or higher, a second (meth)acrylate monomer comprising a lower refractive index (meth)acrylate monomer with a refractive index of less than 1.6, and at least one initiator. Cured optical coatings prepared from the compositions are optically clear, having a visible light transmission of at least 88% and a haze of 5% or less, and have a refractive index of at least 1.78, and are capable of passing a 10 millimeter mandrel flexibility test.

Flexible nanoparticle optical coating compositions

Optical stacks configured to reduce variation of color with view angle in organic light emitting diode (OLED) displays having an emissive OLED layer are described. An optical stack having first and second layers with differing refractive indices includes a nanostructured interface between the first and second layers. The second layer can be disposed between the first layer and the emissive layer with the nanostructured interface proximate to, and outside of, an evanescent zone of the emissive layer. The nanostructured interface has a substantially azimuthally symmetric power spectral density (PSD) and a wavenumber-PSD product has a maximum for a wavenumber larger than 6 radians/micrometer times the refractive index of the second layer. For all wavenumbers lower than 6 radians/micrometer times the second refractive index, the wavenumber-PSD product is no more than 0.3 times the maximum.

Optical stack for improved color uniformity in OLED display

A nanostructured article having a first layer with a nanostructured surface is described. The nanostructured surface includes a plurality of pillars extending from a base surface of the first layer. The pillars have an average height greater than an average lateral dimension of the pillars. An average center-to-center spacing between pillars is no more than 2000 nm. The average lateral dimension is no less than 50 nm. Each pillar in the plurality of pillars has at least a lower portion and an upper portion where the lower portion is between the upper portion and the base surface, and the upper and lower portions have differing compositions. The nanostructured article includes a second layer disposed over the plurality of pillars and extending continuously to the base surface.

Nanostructured article

Microoptical layers, glazing units including the microoptical layers, and transfer tapes that may be used to provide the microoptical layers are provided. The transfer tape includes a removable template layer having a structured surface, a backfill layer having a first surface disposed on at least a portion of the structured surface of the template layer, and a microstructured surface opposite the structured surface. The microstructured surface together with a layer disposed on the microstructured surface is an anisotropic diffuser.

For all wavenumbers lower than 6 radians/micrometer times the second refractive index, the wavenumber-PSD product is no more than 0.3 times the maximum.
