An information request is received from a user of a social network. Data for other users in the social network is searched in order to provide an answer to the request. The reserved display field does not obstruct any other display fields in the graphical user interface. A request for supplementary information may be generated by using a mouse to first position a cursor over an active display element. A request for supplementary information associated with the active display element may be generated by clicking the mouse, or by holding the cursor stationary for a time interval greater than a threshold dwell time.

The method includes sending a representation of the object from the computing device to a display device coupled to the computing device. The method includes selecting advertising content with a processor of the computing device based on first information retrieved from the data that is associated with the first display element, based on second information retrieved from the data that is associated with the second display element, and based on a first location in the representation of the first display element relative to a second location in the representation of the second display element. The method also includes sending the advertising content from the computing device to the display device for display in an advertising window.

A method of selecting advertising content includes analyzing first data associated with a first display element of the plurality of independent display elements. The plurality of independent display elements are associated with a representation of a three-dimensional object. The method also includes analyzing second data associated with a second display element of the plurality of independent display elements. The method further includes selecting, based at least partially on the first data and the second data, first advertisement content for display via an advertisement window separate from the first display element and the second display element.
