Disclosed embodiments may relate to bellows pumps for introducing treatment fluid into a well. Wear issues, for example causing leakage of the discharge valve, can lead to pressure build-up in the pump chamber which may eventually damage the bellows. Disclosed embodiments may be configured to prevent such damage to the bellows due to discharge valve leakage. For example, in some embodiments a mechanism may hold open the suction valve during pump stoppage, to prevent pressure accumulation. Alternate embodiments may be configured to protect the bellows, even when the pump continues to run. Related methods are also disclosed.

Active bellows pump valve management

Disclosed embodiments may relate to pumps for introducing treatment fluid into a well. For example, a piston-driven bellows pump may include a power end, having a piston disposed in a power end bore; a fluid end, having a fluid end bore and a chamber in fluid communication with a suction valve and a discharge valve; and an expandable bellows disposed in the chamber and in fluid communication with the fluid end bore. In embodiments, the power end can be configured to reciprocally expand and contract the bellows within the chamber based on movement of fluid by the piston. In embodiments, the power end bore and the fluid end bore may be fluidly coupled to form a unitary, continuous, and/or unbroken pump bore without external piping therebetween and/or without unswept volume therebetween. Related methods are also disclosed.

Direct connect piston-driven bellows pump

Exemplary systems for introducing treatment fluid into a well can include a bellows pump and a make-up system configured to maintain a controlled volume of fluid between the piston and the bellows of the bellows pump. The make-up system can be fluidly coupled to the bellows and to at least one additional component of the system. In embodiments, the make-up system can be configured to receive heat via circulation of fluid with the at least one additional component of the system, and to discharge heat via circulation of the fluid with the bellows, for example with the bellows conducting heat from the fluid to the treatment fluid for heat discharge.

Systems and methods using a bellows pump to perform operations for a subterranean formation

A valve assembly including: a hardened insert coupled with a hardened insert carrier; and a valve body coupled with a valve insert, wherein, in a closed configuration of the valve assembly, the valve body contacts a primary sealing surface of the hardened insert and the valve insert contacts an initial sealing surface of a hardened insert carrier to prevent fluid flow through the valve assembly, and, in an open configuration of the valve assembly, the valve body does not contact the primary sealing surface of the hardened insert and the valve insert does not contact the initial sealing surface of the hardened insert carrier to allow fluid flow through the valve assembly, wherein the hardened insert carrier comprises a reciprocating element, a replaceable valve carrier (RVC), or a pump fluid end body.

A pump fluid end having a reciprocating element a discharge valve assembly, a suction valve assembly, and a suction valve stop. The reciprocating element is disposed at least partially within a reciprocating element bore of the pump fluid end. The suction valve assembly is coupled with a front end of the reciprocating element. The suction valve stop is positioned within the reciprocating element bore such that the suction valve stop contacts and applies a closing force to the suction valve assembly when the suction valve assembly is stuck open at the end of a discharge stroke of the reciprocating element.

A valve guide includes a valve guide body having a valve guide bore along a central axis thereof. In an assembled configuration of a horizontal valve assembly comprising the valve guide, a valve stem passes through the valve guide bore, connecting a valve body to the valve guide. The valve guide further includes first and second skis that each extends radially outward from the valve guide body to a lower wing outer surface, such that the lower wing outer surface is a first radial distance from the valve guide bore central axis; and an upper wing extending radially outward from the valve guide body to an upper wing outer surface. A plunger actuated valve system is provided. The plunger actuated valve system includes a discharge valve, a stem extending from the discharge valve, and a suction valve coupled with the stem. The suction valve can be operable to abut against a plunger as the plunger translates in a first direction such that the suction valve is in a closed configuration. The suction valve includes a latching component operable to abut against a catch surface of the plunger when the plunger translates in a second direction opposite of the first direction such that the suction valve translates in the second direction.
