A femtocell base station in a telecommunications network identifies, for each user device served by the base station, which other base stations in the network that user device is authorized to access. The base station also determines a group identity for each of a plurality of possible neighbor cell base stations in the network. Based on this information, the base station identifies at least one possible handover target cell base station for each user device served by the base station, based on the identified other base stations in the network that user device is authorized to access; and based on the identified group identity for each of a plurality of possible neighbor cell base stations in the network.

Femtocell network

A cellular access point, amongst a plurality of interconnected cellular access points receives from a first user equipment a connection attempt that would cause the access point to exceed a first predetermined capacity threshold. The cellular access point selects one of the previously connected user equipments and an associated one of the plurality of interconnected cellular access points. The cellular access point initiates a handover of the selected one of the previously connected user equipments to the associated one of the plurality of interconnected cellular access points and establishes a connection with the first user equipment.

Load balancing in a mobile communication network

A method of managing registration requests from unauthorized user equipments in a cellular communications network includes monitoring such further registration requests and maintaining a count of the total number of registration requests from said user equipment. Based on the counted number of unsuccessful registration requests, different mechanisms can be used to reject the registration request.
