The waveguide connector assembly includes a waveguide connector having a first end, a second end, and a body having an interior surface and an exterior surface, the waveguide connector being configured to receive a waveguide in a first orientation or a second orientation at the first end, the second orientation being a rotation of the waveguide from the first orientation by either 45 degrees or 90 degrees to change polarizations. The waveguide connector assembly includes a movable sleeve having a first end, a second end, a body, and an engaging surface, the movable sleeve being configured to slide axially along the exterior surface of the waveguide connector, the engaging surface being configured to prevent axial movement of the waveguide when the movable sleeve is in an engaged position.

A waveguide connector assembly includes a waveguide connector having a first end, a second end opposite the first end, and a body having a length that extends axially between the first end and the second end. The body has an interior surface and an exterior surface, the waveguide connector being configured to receive a waveguide at the first end. The waveguide connector assembly further includes a movable sleeve having a first end, a second end opposite the first end, a body extending axially between the first end and the second end, and an actuating surface. The movable sleeve is configured to slide axially along the exterior surface of the waveguide connector, the actuating surface being configured to prevent axial movement of the waveguide when the movable sleeve is in an actuating position.

A metamaterial liner for an MRI bore. The metamaterial liner may cover only a portion of the MRI bore, allowing travelling wave excitations within the lined portion. By restricting the waves to the lined portion, improved signal to noise ratio may be provided. The lined length may be adjustable, for example by forming the metamaterial liner of removable annular segments. A method is provided of adjusting the length of the lined portion by removing metamaterial segments. The segments may be included in interchangeable modules. The MRI liner is suitable for any magnetic field strength, and in particular may provide improved signal to noise at reduced technical difficulty at magnetic field strengths between conventional field strengths suitable for a birdcage coil and conventional travelling wave field strengths.

MRI metamaterial liner

A liner for a bore of a waveguide is provided. The liner as an aperture passing through it and is formed of a metamaterial that has a relative electrical permittivity that is negative and near zero. When the liner is installed in the waveguide, it lowers the cutoff frequency of the waveguide while allowing the waveguide to remain hollow. This liner can be used in the bore of an MRI machine to lower the cutoff frequency of the bore of the MRI machine to allow the MRI machine to operate using waves having a lower frequency that if the liner was not used.
