At a portable electronic device that includes a portable-device display and is in communication with a vehicle display, displaying a first user interface on the portable-device display. Sending, from the portable electronic device to the vehicle display, information for generating a second user interface, the second user interface including an affordance. While the second user interface is displayed on the vehicle display, detecting an input activating the affordance in the second user interface, and in response, causing the portable electronic device to invoke a digital assistant. In response to invoking the digital assistant, prompting a user for an audible request. In response to receiving the audible request, causing display, within the second user interface, of a digital assistant dialogue box; and subsequently causing display, within the second user interface, of a user interface object associated with a search result, and maintaining the first user interface on the portable-device display.

Device, method, and graphical user interface for synchronizing two or more displays

A data processing system that, in one embodiment, uses smart reminders to allow a user to decline an incoming phone or messaging call and to cause the system to set a smart reminder about the call. In one embodiment, the system can use the system's current state or context (e.g. the system is in a car or is playing a movie) to determine the type of reminder options to present to the user and to determine when to trigger the reminder based on the reminder option that is selected by the user.

Options presented on a device other than accept and decline for an incoming call

A device displays a first user interface on a first display, including a plurality of objects and corresponding to a second user interface on a second display. While a first object is displayed as a selected object in the second user interface, the device: detects a first input requesting information about a second object; and in response to detecting the first input, displays information about the second object in the first user interface and maintains display of the first object as the selected object in the second user interface. After displaying the information, the device detects a second input selecting the second object. In response to detecting selection of the second input, the device: displays the second object as the selected object in the first user interface; and provides, to the second display, information that enables the second user interface to display the second object as the selected object.

Modifying a notification on one client device can trigger the generation and transmission of a silent notification to another client device that is associated with the same user account. The silent notification can include instructions to query for and modify a similar notification, if present, on the other client device. Silent notifications that are undeliverable can be stored in offline storage and delivery can be reattempted at a later point in time.

Managing notifications across multiple devices

A method and apparatus to manage notification service connections. In one embodiment of the invention, a mobile device schedules a notification service connection message transmission interval for each of a plurality of notification service connections. The mobile device also associates a notification service connection message transmission window with each notification service connection message transmission interval. The mobile device synchronizes transmission of notification service connection messages based on overlapping notification service connection message transmission windows.

Managing notification service connections

Various examples are directed to an electronic device capable of touch input through a touch-sensitive surface and/or voice input through a microphone. In some examples, the electronic device may be used in an automobile. For example, some or all of the electronic device may be mounted in a dashboard for use while driving. The electronic device may provide informational content, entertainment content, navigation, and communication features in such a manner that user interaction may be minimized, thus providing a safe driving experience. This can be accomplished by performing tasks and presenting content automatically, without the need for user input, and by allowing user input through voice controls, touch screen controls, and/or physical controls mounted on the dashboard or steering wheel, among other possibilities.

A method performed at an electronic device with a touch-sensitive display includes displaying a text entry interface area at a first predefined size and with a text input field. The method includes concurrently displaying, at a first size, a viewing area adjacent to the text entry interface area. The viewing area is configured to display scrollable information that includes information entered via the text entry interface. The method includes detecting a first finger gesture on the touch-sensitive display at the text input field. The method includes, in response to detecting the first finger gesture: decreasing the viewing area from the first size to a second size smaller than the first size, and increasing the text entry interface area from the first predefined size to a second predefined size. At the second predefined size, the text entry interface area includes the text input field and a soft keyboard.

Device, method, and graphical user interface for resizing content viewing and text entry interfaces

A method is performed on a handheld device that involves receiving a search term and searching through stored text message information of multiple text messages for the search term. A listing of text message conversations are listed on the display where each listed conversation has at least one text message whose text message information was found to include the search term. And, in response to a user selection of one of the conversations, a sequence of text messages within the one selected conversation is displayed.

Method and apparatus for searching for text messages

The disclosed embodiments provide a system that manages access to a user account from an electronic device. The system includes an identity service that provides a device token for the electronic device and a set of handles associated with the user account to the electronic device. Next, the identity service receives, from the electronic device, a handle registration containing one or more selected handles from the set of handles. Finally, the identity service transmits an identity certificate comprising an association between the selected handles and the electronic device to the electronic device, wherein the identity certificate and the association are used to route data associated with the selected handles to and from the electronic device.

Synchronizing handles for user accounts across multiple electronic devices

Registering a client computing device for online communication sessions. A registration server receives a message that has a push token that is unique to the client computing device and a phone number of the client computing device from an SMS (Short Message Service) transit device, which received an SMS message having the push token from the client computing device and determined the phone number of the client computing device from that SMS message. The registration server associates the push token and the phone number and stores it in a registration data store, which is used for inviting users for online communication sessions.
