A method of transmitting data from a first communications terminal to one or more second communications terminals includes receiving from an infrastructure equipment forming part of a wireless communications network an indication identifying a predetermined pattern of communications resources of a wireless access interface. The wireless access interface provides plural communications resources divided into time divided units. The method also includes transmitting the data in some or all of the predetermined pattern of communications resources to one or more of the second communications terminals in accordance with device to device communications. The predetermined pattern of communications resources is one of plural patterns of communications resources of the wireless access interface for plural of the time divided units. The plural patterns of communications resources are predetermined for a reduction in latency when transmitting the data from the first communications terminal and/or reducing in signaling overhead required to transmit the data.

The infrastructure equipment establishes plural configuration settings for the secondary carrier based on measurements of radio usage in the second frequency band which are conveyed to the terminal device. The terminal device makes channel quality measurements for the secondary component carrier according to the different configuration settings and reports these to the infrastructure equipment. Based on these measurements of channel quality for the different configurations, the infrastructure equipment selects one of the configuration settings, and conveys an indication of this to the terminal device in association with an allocation of transmission resources on the secondary component carrier.

Telecommunications apparatus and methods

A method allocating resources in a mobile telecommunications system including a base station, one or more terminals, and one or more infrastructure nodes configured to communicate via a wireless interface allocated for successive time periods. The method includes: obtaining measurements that relate to a link between a first of the terminals and one of the infrastructure nodes; identifying communications between the first terminal and the one infrastructure node as delay-sensitive communications; identifying, based on the obtained measurements and identification of the communications between the first terminal and the one infrastructure nodes as delay-sensitive communications, resources to allocate for the first terminal to communicate with one or more of the infrastructure nodes, selected from two or more of the time periods; and allocating the identified resources for the first terminal to communicate with the one or more of the infrastructure nodes during the two or more time periods.

Methods, base station, infrastructure node and terminal for measurements and delay-sensitive vehicle-related communications

A method of operating a terminal device and a base station in a wireless telecommunications system to communicate with one another using a primary component carrier operating on radio resources within a first frequency band and a secondary component carrier operating on radio resources within a second frequency band. The terminal device makes measurements of radio usage in the second frequency band, e.g. by other devices which are not part of the wireless telecommunications system but which can also use radio resources within the second frequency band. The terminal device transmits an indication of the measurements to the base station, and on the basis if this the base station establishes a configuration setting for the secondary component carrier, for example in terms of frequency resources to use for the secondary component carrier. The configuration setting is associated with a validity period during which the base station communicates data to the terminal device using the primary component carrier and the secondary component carrier operating in accordance with its configuration setting. When the validity period expires, the terminal device again measures and reports on radio usage so the base station can determine an updated configuration setting for the secondary component carrier that takes account of any changes in radio usage during the validity period.

A method of obtaining link measurements in a mobile telecommunications system, the system including a base station configured to communicate with at least one terminal and one or more relay nodes configured to relay downlink and/or uplink transmissions between the at least one terminal and the base station. The method includes: sending, by the base station and to a mobile node, measurement instructions including a list identifying one or more relay nodes for measuring link quality, wherein the mobile node is one of the at least one terminal and the one or more relay nodes; and receiving, at the base station and from the mobile node, a list of one or more link measurements, wherein a link measurement measures a link quality for a link between the mobile node and one of the relay nodes identified in the list sent by the base station.

A mobile communications network, method, and base station arranged to request and analyze measurement information from one or more infrastructure units including one or more relay nodes and one or more mobile communication terminals. The base station then sets forwarding rules in a relay node according to the measurement information reported so that the relay mode may forward any data received as soon as possible, or aggregate data over a period of time and only forward it once predetermined conditions have been met.

A method of allocating resources in a mobile telecommunications system, the system including a base station configured to communicate via a wireless interface with one or more terminals and one or more infrastructure nodes configured to communicate with the one or more terminals. The method includes: obtaining measurements wherein a measurement relates to a link between a first terminal of the one or more terminals and one of the one or more infrastructure node; obtaining direction information for the first terminal; determining, based on the measurements and direction information, a candidate infrastructure node for the first terminal; and allocating resources for the first terminal to communicate with the candidate infrastructure node.

A first terminal device, for use in a wireless telecommunications system, including: a receiver; a transmitter: a storage medium operable to store mapping information identifying sets of predetermined radio resources and a predetermined geographical region associated with each respective set of predetermined radio resources; and a controller operable to: receive a geographical location, the geographical location of the terminal device being determined by a location unit; determine the predetermined geographical region of the received mapping information within which the determined geographical location is located; determine the set of predetermined radio resources associated with the determined geographical region using the received mapping information; control the receiver to receive signals from a second terminal device using the determined set of predetermined radio resources; and control the transmitter to transmit signals to the second terminal device using the determined set of predetermined radio resources.

Wireless telecommunications system

A communications device including a transmitter and a receiver configured to transmit and receive signals representing data to and from an infrastructure equipment of a mobile communications network via a first wireless access interface. The communications device transmits signals via a second wireless access interface to a communications apparatus operating as a relay node, and determines an additional delay caused by the transmission of the signals to the communications apparatus acting as the relay node via the second wireless access interface compared with a time taken which would have been taken to transmit the signals to the infrastructure equipment as if transmitted via the first wireless access interface, and transmits an indication from which the infrastructure equipment can derive the determined additional delay for adjusting the transmission or reception of the synchronized response.

Communications device, communications apparatus operating as a relay node, infrastructure equipment and methods

A method of operating a terminal device and network infrastructure equipment in a wireless telecommunications system for communicating on a primary cell supporting a primary component carrier on radio resources within a first frequency band and a secondary cell supporting a secondary component carrier on radio resources within a second frequency band. The infrastructure equipment establishes a plural configuration settings for the secondary carrier based on measurements of radio usage in the second frequency band, which are conveyed to the terminal device. The terminal device makes channel quality measurements for the secondary component carrier according to the different configuration settings and reports these to the infrastructure equipment. Based on the measurements of channel quality for the different configurations, the infrastructure equipment selects one of the configuration settings, and conveys an indication of this to the terminal device in association with an allocation of transmission resources on the secondary component carrier.
