The invention relates to an inertial unit for being attached to a rotatable part of a vehicle, the rotatable part being coupled to a power equipment of the vehicle, the inertial unit including: at least one acceleration sensor and/or at least one magnetometer arranged to detect a tilting angle of the rotatable part, and/or at least one counter device arranged to detect rotations of the rotatable part, and at least one gyroscope arranged to detect directions at a rim level of the rotatable part for providing angular information for positioning.

Method, apparatus, and computer program product embodiments provide position determination. An example method embodiment comprises measuring in a mobile device, acceleration in mutually orthogonal x and y directions in a horizontal plane and in a vertical direction, due to walking motion of a user holding the device; computing a Fourier transform of the measured acceleration in the vertical direction and determining a frequency of acceleration in the vertical direction having a maximum amplitude; computing a Fourier transform of the measured acceleration in the x direction and in the y direction and determining a frequency of acceleration in the x and y directions corresponding to the maximum amplitude frequency of acceleration in the vertical direction; and computing a direction of walking motion of the user, based on the determined frequency of acceleration in the x and y directions corresponding to the maximum amplitude frequency of acceleration in the vertical direction.

A toothbrushing monitoring device for a user includes a sensor coupled with the toothbrush for measuring toothbrushing patterns, a recording device coupled with the sensor, and a comparator. The recording device records data relating to the user's preferred toothbrushing patterns in a first mode, which is used to establish toothbrushing pattern reference data. The comparator compares toothbrushing patterns measured by the sensor and the toothbrushing pattern reference data, which may be output to an output device. In one example, the sensor consists of only an accelerometer.

The present invention describes a method to calibrate an angular measurement device using acceleration measurement device. The angular rate measurement device includes at least one angular measurement sensor, wherein the acceleration measurement device is able to distinguish the direction and strength of gravity. By performing the calibration method the scale factor(s) of the angular measurement device and the strength and direction of gravity can be obtained and/or corrected. An embodiment according to the method of the present invention describes optional use of a communication network to perform necessary evaluation and calculation steps at a remote device.
