A bonded seal includes a metal alloy substrate, a bonding agent, and a perfluoroelastomer bonded to at least a portion of the metal alloy substrate via the bonding agent.

High performance fluoroelastomer bonded seal for downhole applications

An elastomer alloy includes a base polymer including hydrogenated nitrile butadiene rubber (HNBR) and at least one secondary polymer, which is at least one of paraffin wax, low-density polyethylene (LDPE), linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), high-density polyethylene (HDPE), and a plastomer. The base polymer and the at least one secondary polymer are blended into a polymer matrix. The elastomer alloy also includes a plurality of smart fillers dispersed within the polymer matrix, at least one chemical foaming agent, and a curing activator.

Elastomer alloy for intelligent sand management

A sand screen apparatus for use in a downhole operation for hydrocarbon recovery includes a non-metallic material and a mechanical retainer. The non-metallic material has a compressed state and an expanded state, and includes a base polymer, and one or a plurality of smart fillers dispersed with a polymeric matrix of the non-metallic material. The mechanical retainer compresses the non-metallic material in the compressed state. The one or the plurality of smart fillers react with the base polymer in the expanded state after exposure to a wellbore condition.

A smooth torque balanced cable that includes an electrically conductive cable core for transmitting electrical power. The smooth torque balanced cable also has a first polymer surrounding said cable core. An inner layer of a plurality of first armor wires surrounds the cable core. The first armor wires being in partial contact with the first polymer and partial contact with a second polymer disposed opposite the first polymer.

Torque-balanced, gas-sealed wireline cables

A method of manufacturing a jacketed metal line is detailed herein. The method of manufacturing a jacketed metal line can include roughening an outer surface of a metal core of the line. An insulating polymer layer can be applied to the metal core, and the insulating polymer layer can include a reinforcing additive comprising: graphite, carbon, glass, aramid, short-fiber filled PolyEtherEtherKetone, mircron-sized polytetrafluoroethylene, or combinations thereof. The roughened metal core can then be exposed a heat source for at least partially melting the polymer layer; and the partially melted polymer layer and insulated roughened metal core can be ran through a set of shaping rollers.

Coated conductors

A dual use cable includes at least one fiber optic cable encased in a metallic component that is encased in a layer of polymer material. The polymer material is surrounded by a tube or armor wire strength members embedded in one or two additional polymer material layers. A final assembly can include an outer metallic component or an outer layer of polymer material. The at least one fiber optic cable transmits data and the armor wire strength members and/or metallic components transmit at least one of electrical power and data.

Dual use cable with fiber optics for use in wellbore operations

A technique for manufacturing slickline with a jacket of enhanced bonding. The technique may include roughening an outer surface of a metal core and applying an initial insulating polymer layer to the roughened core in a non-compression manner such as by tubing extrusion. The insulated core may then be heated and run through a set of shaping rollers. Thus, the grip between the polymer and the underlying metal core may be enhanced at a time following the initial placement of the polymer on the core. In this manner, processing damage to the underlying core surface which might adversely affect maintaining the grip may be minimized. Other techniques such as powder spray delivery of the initial polymer layer may also be utilized in a similar manner.

Slickline manufacturing techniques

A cable that include a hose having a conductor located thereabout. A first strength member layer is located about the conductor. A second strength member layer is located about the first strength member layer. A first jacket is located about the second strength member layer. The first jacket is fiber-reinforced. A second jacket is located about the first jacket. The second jacket is a contrasting color to the first jacket.

Cables and methods of making cables

A cable includes an electrically conductive cable core for transmitting electrical power and data, an insulative/protective layer circumferentially disposed around the core, an inner armor wire layer including a plurality of armor wires disposed around the cable core and the insulative layer, wherein at least one of the armor wires of the inner armor wire layer is bonded to the insulative layer, and an outer armor wire layer including a plurality of armor wires disposed around the inner armor wire layer. At least one of the armor wires of the outer armor wire layer can be bonded to the at least one of the armor wires of the inner armor wire layer.

Wireline cables not requiring seasoning

A torque-balanced, gas-blocking wireline cable and a method of making the cable includes an electrically conductive cable core for transmitting electrical power and surrounding inner and outer layers of a plurality of armor wires. Gas blocking is achieved by placing a soft polymer layer over the core before the inner wires are cabled thereon. The inner wires imbed partially into the soft polymer layer such that no gaps are left between the inner wires and the core. A second soft polymer layer is optionally extruded over the inner wires before the outer wires are applied. The second soft polymer layer fills any spaces between the inner and outer wire layers and prevents pressurized gas from infiltrating between the wires. The inner wires have larger diameters than the outer wires such that the inner wires carry approximately 60% of the load and torque imbalance is prevented.

An embodiment of a method for manufacturing a cable, comprises providing a cable core comprising at least one conductor therein, extruding a stopping layer about at least the cable core, extruding a jacketing layer about the stopping layer, and cabling at least one armor wire layer about the jacketing layer to form the cable, wherein the stopping layer comprises a polymer layer configured to mechanically and thermally protect the cable core.
