A method for preparing naphthenic acids consists in that a petroleum fraction is oxidized at a temperature of 135.degree.-140.degree. C. in the presence of catalyst consisting of manganese naphthenate and potassium naphthenate; the obtained mixture of organic oxygen-containing compounds containing naphthenic and hydroxynaphthenic acids is diluted with an organic solvent, and the hydroxynaphthenic acids are precipitated and separated; the solution of the organic oxygen-containing compounds freed from hydroxynaphthenic acids in said organic solvent is treated with an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide; thus obtained aqueous solution of sodium naphthenates is separated; said aqueous solution of sodium naphthenates is treated with diethyl sulphate at a temperature of 90.degree.-95.degree. C. to isolate ethyl naphthenates from which a fraction of ethyl naphthenate boiling out in a temperature range of 75.degree.-170.degree. C. is separated by rectification in vacuum of 3 mm Hg; the isolated fraction of ethyl naphthenates is treated with an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide and the end product is isolated by the action of mineral acids.

Method of preparing naphthenic acids

A catalyst for the (co)polymerization of ethylene, .alpha.-olefines, conjugated and non-conjugated dienes, a method of preparation, and a mode of using same. The catalyst contains from 0.1 to 50 wt.% of a compound of a transition metal of the IV-VIII Groups chemically combined and distributed over the surface and within the volume of a rubber-like polymeric carrier containing from 1 to 50 wt.% of electron-donor and/or electron-acceptor groups and is in the form of a gel which is swellable, but insoluble in the reaction medium. A co-catalyst comprising an organic compound of a metal of Groups I-III is employed chemically combined and/or non-combined with the catalyst. The catalyst is prepared by mixing the metal compound with said carrier swollen or dissolved in a solvent, and by extracting the resulting compound with a solvent. (Co)polymerization is effected in a solvent such as a hydrocarbon or a hologenated hydrocarbon derivative at a temperature not exceeding 200.degree. C. under a pressure ranging from 0 to 100 atm by separating the catalyst from the (co)polymer during or after the reaction and recycling it back to the (co)polymerization.

A process for purifying aromatic hydrocarbons contained in liquid products of refining petroleum fractions or liquid products of coal coking or low-temperature carbonization from non-aromatic hydrocarbons which comprises heat-treatment of said liquid products at a temperature ranging from 750.degree. to 950.degree. C. under a pressure within the range of from 1 to 10 atm in the presence of acyclic C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 hydrocarbons employed separately or in various combinations at a weight ratio between said acyclic hydrocarbons and said liquid products being of at least 0.3. The heat-treatment results in a vapor-gas mixture which is cooled to isolate a condensate containing predominantly aromatic hydrocarbons. The process is technologically simple and makes it possible to purify aromatic hydrocarbons practically without decomposition thereof.

Process for purifying aromatic hydrocarbons

A catalyst for the (co)polymerization of ethylene, .alpha.-olefines, conjugated and non-conjugated dienes, a method of preparation and a mode of using same. The method of dimerization of olefins having from 2 to 4 carbon atoms consists in that at least one said olefin is mixed, in a medium of hydrocarbon or halogenated hydrocarbon solvents at a temperature of from 0.degree. to 100.degree. C and a pressure from 1 to 40 atmospheres, with a catalyst, which is a graft copolymer of a natural or a synthetic carbon-chain rubber with vinylpyridine; said copolymer swells in said solvents and contains from 0.5 to 40 per cent of fragments of polyvinylpyridine that are complexed with a nickel salt, and contains also from 2 to 50 mole per cent of -AIRX- units, where R is an alkyl having not more than 8 carbon atoms, and X is a halogen, the aluminum atom being bound with the main chain of the copolymer through the carbon atom. The atom ratio of Al/Ni is from 1 to 20. Said catalyst is characterized by high stability and preserves it initial activity for a long period of time. It is not crushed in the process and is easy to recover. The catalyst is characterized also by high selectivity: the butene-1 content of a mixture of butenes, obtained by dimerization of ethylene, is 92 to 96 per cent. The methyl-pentene content of the dimerizate, obtained by dimerization of propylene, is 90 to 95 per cent.
