A guide track for use with a chain drive having roller chains is provided with a plurality of components assembled in end-to-end relation. The transition joints between the individual components are characterized by the component arranged upstream in the running direction of the chain drive having a substantially concave end face and the component arranged downstream in the running direction of the chain drive having a mating substantially concave end face thereby providing a substantially chatter-free junction.

Guide track for roller chain drives

An undershot inking unit and associated method are disclosed. The undershot inking unit includes an ink fountain roller that is controlled independently of the printing speed of the printing machine, and in which the rotational contact angle of the distributor roller on the ink fountain roller is varied according to the printing unit speed. The method comprises controlling the rotational speed of the ink fountain roller independently of the printing speed of the printing machine; and varying the rotational contact angle of the intermittent ductor roller on the ink fountain roller according to the printing speed of the printing machine. In a preferred embodiment, the apparatus includes two coaxial cams rotatably adjustable with respect to each other. Each cam includes a predominant circumferential contour and a subordinate circumferential contour. By adjusting the relative rotational position of the cams, the rotational contact angle of the ductor roller on the ink foundation roller is varied according to the printing unit speed.

Method and apparatus for regulating ink distribution in an undershot

A device for selectively controlling the manual or automatic operation of inking or damping rollers of a printing press wherein the torque which produces the adjusting movement is transmissible through a non-positive coupling and a spring-biased manually releasable and automatically engaging connecting element, characterized in that a first start-stop lever is connected to an input coupling member for the automatic starting and stopping of printing, an operating lever is connected to a handle for manual control of the starting and stopping of printing and a second start-stop lever is connected to an output coupling member and is operative to engage and disengage the rollers. The first and second start-stop levers and the manual control lever are mounted concentrically about one another on a cylindrical dowel secured to the press frame, first coupling means including a spring-biased, radially movable locking pin for normally coupling the first and second start-stop levers together, second coupling means including a peg connected to the handle and being radially movable in the operating lever for biasing the locking pin out of coupling engagement with the second start-stop lever and for simultaneously coupling the operating lever and the second start-stop lever together for manually controlled movement of the output member independent of movement of the first start-stop lever and the input member.

Device for selectively controlling the operation of inking or damping

A method and apparatus for aligning and feeding sheets for printing presses having a conveyor for supplying the sheets individually from a feed stack to the front and side lays in a feed table of the press. The method includes the steps of causing the sheets to strike the front lays, drawing the sheets against a side abutment of the side lay, engaging the sheets from below utilizing a vacuum device and then again pressing the sheets against the front lays. The apparatus includes a vacuum device and front and side lays. The vacuum device includes suction arms disposed below the sheets and ahead of the front lays with respect to the direction of the sheet movement. The front lays are movable reciprocably in the direction of the sheet movement while the side lays are movable transversely to the direction of the sheet movement. The apparatus also includes: a first cam for pivoting the suction arms, a second cam for reciprocating the side lay, and a suction disc for controlling the negative pressure applied to the suction arms, all of which are secured to a single shaft and adjusted and laid out in an angular position to one another so that the sheet, after having been drawn laterally against the side lays, is again engaged by the suction arms and moved into a final position against the front lays.
