The device can further obtain the pre-function P(x), piecewise defined on the first grid Gx of the signal x and calculate the LUT with the second grid Gw=P(Gx). The piecewise pre-function P(x) can be obtained from a second pre-function Q(x) by applying Q(x) to signal values x to calculate the second grid Gw=Q(Gx) and defining the pre-function P(x) piecewise on the first grid Gx by linear interpolation of the values of the second grid Gw such that P(Gx)=Q(Gx).

A method and an apparatus for data retrieval in a lightfield database are described. An acquiring unit of the apparatus acquires a sample data. An operation unit determines a plurality of two-dimensional (2D) images from each 4D lightfield data of the lightfield database, and match the sample data with the determined 2D images according to geometrical parameters of the sample data and geometrical parameters of the 2D images. One of the 2D images is selected as a target image based on the matching result, and the 4D lightfield from which the target image is determined is retrieved.

An aspect of present principles is directed to methods and systems for gamut mapping colors from a either a source color gamut or a content color gamut towards a target color gamut. A source hue of the source specific colors and a source hue of the content specific colors is changed towards a target hue of the corresponding target specific colors. Color gamut mapping is performed for the source colors of either the whole source color gamut or the content color gamut towards the target color gamut based on the mapped specific colors. The specific colors are selected from primary colors, secondary colors, a group of primary colors and secondary colors.

In a situation where a capturing device is capturing a first image of a scene comprising a display device displaying a second image, a salient idea is to send both the captured first image and the second image, being displayed by the display device to a processing device, for comparatively processing the first and the second image to determine a characteristic associated with the display device. Being able to process the first image (comprising a displayed second image) together with the original second image advantageously allows to determine various characteristics associated with the display device that altered the displayed second image within the first image, making it different from the initial second image. Characteristics associated with the display device are for example a specular reflection occurring on the display device in the scene and disturbing the capture of the scene.

The present principles relate to a method and device for gamut mapping from a first color gamut towards a second color gamut. The method comprises, in a plane of constant hue, mapping the chroma of the color from the first color gamut towards the second color gamut at constant lightness. The chroma mapping further comprises obtaining a target color on the second color gamut boundary wherein the lightness of the target color is greater than or equal to the lightness of a color of maximum chroma of the first color gamut and wherein the lightness of the target color is lower than the lightness of a color of maximum chroma of the second color gamut. In case where the lightness of the color is greater than the lightness of the target color, the chroma mapping comprises mapping at constant lightness the chroma of a color on the first color gamut boundary by a decreasing function of chroma applied to lightness, wherein the respective outputs of the decreasing function applied to the lightness of the target color and to the lightness of the white are the chroma of the target color and the chroma of the white.

A method for generating a fourth color transform is disclosed, wherein said fourth color transform transforms an original picture into a target color graded version of said original picture. The method comprises obtaining a first color transform wherein said first (reference) color transform transforms said original picture into a first color graded version of said original picture; obtaining a second (reference) color transform wherein said second color transform transforms said original picture to a second color graded version of said original picture; obtaining a third (exemplary) color transform wherein said third color transform transforms said original picture to said target color graded version of said original picture; obtaining at least one interpolating parameter wherein the fourth color transform is close to or representative of the third color transform (exemplary) and the fourth color transform is obtained by applying a parametric function determined by the at least one interpolating parameter to the first color transform and second color transform. In a variant, the at least one interpolating parameter is obtained by minimizing an error between the third color transform and the fourth color transform.

The present principles are directed to a parameterized OETF/EOTF for processing images and video. The present principles provide a method for encoding a picture, comprising: applying a parameterized transfer function to a luminance (L) signal of the picture to determine a resulting V(L) transformed signal; encoding the resulting V(L); wherein the parameterized transfer function is adjusted based on a plurality of parameters to model one of a plurality of transfer functions. The present principles also provide for a method for decoding a digital picture, the method comprising: receiving the digital picture; applying a parameterized transfer function to the digital picture to determine a luminance (L) signal of the digital picture, the parameterized transfer function being based on a plurality of parameters; wherein the parameterized transfer function is adjusted based on a plurality of parameters to model one of a plurality of transfer functions.

This determination comprises: defining key constant-hue leaves such as to partition the gamut mapping color space into angular hue sectors; for each key constant hue leaf, defining a key hue leaf chroma mapping function; for each angular hue sector, defining a continuous angular hue sector chroma mapping function such that, for any source color belonging to one of the two key constant-hue leaves delimiting this angular hue sector, this continuous chroma mapping function allows to map the chroma of said source color according to the key hue leaf chroma mapping function of the key constant-hue leaf to which said source color belongs. A method for creating a pair of stereoscopic images is described. The method includes using at least one lightfield camera which receives respective required camera parameters for a left view and a right view. The required camera parameters define a theoretical stereo image pair to acquire respective actual camera parameters for respective sub aperture images that are generated based on the captured image by the lightfield cameras, to determine a best matching sub aperture image for the left view by comparing the required camera parameter for the left view with the actual camera parameters for the respective sub aperture images, to determine a best matching sub aperture image for right view by comparing the required camera parameter for right view with the actual camera parameters for the respective sub aperture images, and to associate the best matching sub aperture image for left view and the best matching sub aperture image for right view as a pair of stereoscopic images.

A method and apparatus for inverse tone mapping of an LDR image with computer generated imagery components, such components being also called visual effects, are disclosed. The disclosed method includes accessing a first LDR image, the first LDR image being obtained from at least one computer generated imagery component rendered and composited into an LDR reference image or background plate; determining an HDR lighting indication responsive to information extracted from a part of the first LDR image and a respective part of a first intermediate HDR image obtained by applying a first pass inverse tone mapping to the first LDR image; obtaining a second intermediate HDR image by applying a second pass inverse tone mapping to the LDR reference image; obtaining the first HDR image from the computer generated imagery components rendered using HDR lighting indication and composited into the second intermediate HDR image.
