A visible laser marking beam is split by simple means into four individual beams which share the instrument's optical path with the invisible laser radiation and are combined at the instrument's focal plane to form a single light spot.

The invention relates to a modified microscope-photometer which makes it possible to record and evaluate inherent fluorescent spectra of organic tissue surfaces. The modified microscope-photometer affords the advantage of being able to illuminate the object in a path coaxial to the viewing direction.

Readiness for operation of laser medical instruments or of flash generators for ophthalmological instruments is indicated in such a way that the readiness signal is perceptible only to the physician and not to the patient being operated upon. There is a mini-earphone to be worn in an ear of the physician. The conventional readiness signal, if of the optical kind, is converted to an audible signal delivered to the earphone of the physician. A photodiode responsive to the optical signal is part of the conversion system, which also includes an audiogenerator and an amplifier. If the conventional readiness signal is of the audible kind, the loudspeaker is rendered inoperative and a sound signal is produced in the earphone. In addition to the advantage that the readiness signal is perceptible only to the physician and not to the patient, a further advantage is that the physician does not have to turn his head or shift his gaze from the desired concentration on viewing the operating area, in order to see a signal light, as is necessary in prior art signals of the optical variety.

The invention is directed to an arrangement for controlling a movement and includes an arrangement wherein the an actuating manipulator provides an output signal proportional to displacement. The arrangement includes a circuit which multiplies the output signal by a factor F which is dependent upon the speed of the actuation. In this way, the manipulator is suitable not only for controlling very fine sensitive positioning; but it also allows a fast displacement of the driven part over large distances. With manipulators for controlling movements in more than one dimension, output signals are multiplied by the same factor for all coordinates in order that directional accuracy of the movement is guaranteed at all speeds. A track ball can be utilized as a manipulator, for example. The arrangement of the invention is applicable for manually positioning microscope tables, coordinate measuring machines and ophthalmic apparatus.

A retroreflection device is mounted beneath a transmitted-light specimen observed through a reflected-light microscope. The retroreflection device is in the form of an autocollimation system consisting of two high-aperture objectives and a flat mirror. The objectives image the specimen and the mirror one onto the other so that the specimen is further illuminated by its own coincident intermediate image. When making photometric measurements, the double passage of light through the specimen achieves an improvement in contrast as well as an increase in extinction values.
