A process for preparing an aqueous polymer dispersion including free-radically initiated emulsion polymerization in an aqueous medium, in the presence of at least one vinyl polymer A, to obtain a polymer B including a vinyl polymer phase B1 with a glass transition temperature of from −20 to +15° C. and a vinyl polymer phase B2 with a glass transition temperature of from +50 to +110° C., with the proviso that the difference in glass transition temperature between polymer B1 and polymer B2 is at least 40° C. The weight ratio of polymer B1 to polymer B2 is from 80:10 to 10:20.

Process for preparing aqueous polymer dispersions

The current invention relates to an one-pack aqueous coating composition comprising dispersed carbonyl functional vinyl polymer(s) particles, characterized in that the coating composition further comprises carbodihydrazide, whereby (i) the equivalent molar ratio of hydrazide groups to carbonyl groups is from 0.1 to 0.95, (ii) the ratio of number-average molecular weight of the carbonyl functional vinyl polymer(s) to acid value of the carbonyl functional vinyl polymer(s) is higher than 400, and (iii) the acid value of the carbonyl functional vinyl polymer(s) is from 2 to 100 mg KOH/gram carbonyl functional vinyl polymer.

Aqueous crosslinkable coating composition

The present invention relates to an aqueous dispersion comprising dispersed particles of an acrylic copolymer having a volume average particle size diameter (d50) of from 1 to 50 &#x3bc;m (microns), wherein the aqueous dispersion further comprises (i) an acrylic copolymer dispersant having an alkaline solubility higher than 50 wt. %, and being present in the dispersion in an amount of from 10 to 35% by weight, relative to the total amount of monomers used to prepare the acrylic copolymer of the dispersed polymeric particles; and (ii) decomposition products of an oil-soluble organic initiator.

Aqueous composition with improved elongation at break

Disclosed is a method to provide a metal wire with a coating system comprising a primer and a topcoat, particularly a hydrophilic, lubricious topcoat. The method comprises applying directly onto the wire metal a primer coating composition, which is an aqueous coating composition comprising a multiphase vinyl polymer, the polymer comprising a first phase having a Tg in the range of from &#x2212;20&#xb0; C. to 40&#xb0; C. and a hard phase having a Tg in the range of from 25&#xb0; C. to 120&#xb0; C. The primer has good adhesion to both the metal surface and the topcoat, and provides the eventual coating system with, inter alia, a good flexibility.

A process is described for making an aqueous coating composition comprising a cationic vinyl oligomer comprising the following steps: I. preparation of a cationic vinyl oligomer by solution or bulk polymerization of components: i) 2 to 50 wt % of vinyl monomers bearing amine functional groups selected from the group consisting of non-ionic amine functional groups (a), permanent quaternary ammonium functional groups (b), neutralized amine functional groups (c) and mixtures thereof; and ii) 20 to 98 wt % of Ci to Ci8 alkyl (meth)acrylates; and II. dispersion of the cationic vinyl oligomer in an aqueous medium and neutralization of non-ionic amine functional groups.
