A system for conveying a coiler can between a sliver producing fiber processing machine and a sliver consuming fiber processing machine includes a carriage for accommodating the coiler can; an electric motor mounted on the carriage for propelling the carriage; and a battery replaceably mounted on the carriage and being electrically connected with the motor for supplying electric current thereto. The system further includes a battery replacing apparatus having a manipulating mechanism for removing a battery from and for moving a battery onto the carriage and a supporting arrangement for supporting the battery during displacement thereof by the manipulating mechanism.

An apparatus for transporting a coiler can includes a carriage for receiving the coiler can and a loading and unloading device mounted on the carriage for shifting the coiler can toward or away from the carriage. The loading and unloading device has an elongated stationary base element secured to the carriage; and a plurality of elongated runners oriented parallel to one another and the base element. The runners are displaceable relative to one another and the base element. One of the runners--termed as a first runner--adjoins the base element and another runner--termed as a second runner--adjoins the first runner. The device further includes a guide arrangement for guiding the first runner on the base element and for guiding the second runner on the first runner. In extended positions the first runner partially projects beyond the base element and the second runner partially projects beyond the first runner. The device also has a drive for displacing the runners along linear paths and a gripping element mounted on one of the runners for engaging the coiler can and for shifting the coiler can upon displacement of the runners by the drive.

A transporting carriage for conveying a coiler can of curved outer circumferential surface in an upright orientation between a can stand of a sliver producing fiber processing machine and a can stand of a sliver comsuming fiber processing machine includes an apparatus for transferring the coiler can from the carriage to the can stand and from the can stand to the carriage in a linear transferring direction. The apparatus includes a gripper element having a jaw opening defined by an inner concave surface of the gripper element for engaging the coiler can along a portion of the curved outer circumferential surface; a turning mechanism for rotating the gripper element along a path generally parallel to the curvilinear length to alter an orientation of the jaw opening; and a linear shifting arrangement for linearly displacing the gripper element parallel to the linear transferring direction for placing the gripper element into a first position in which it is situated within an outline of the carriage and into a second position in which it is situated externally of the outline.

Method and apparatus for transferring coiler cans to and from a can

An automatic startup device in a carding machine includes a roll assembly for discharging the fiber web; and a web transporting arrangement situated under the roll assembly for gathering and advancing the web. The web transporting arrangement is formed of two adjoining, driven endless belts which together define a gap through which the web is discharged downwardly. The two endless belts or portions thereof are simultaneously shiftable horizontally to cause the web discharge gap to assume first and second locations spaced horizontaly from one another. There is further provided a trumpet situated under the web gathering belts. The trumpet has separable parts between which the web is introduced from the web discharge gap. In a separated position the two trumpet parts are at a relatively large distance from one another, whereby the web is discharged by the trumpet in a substantially unaltered state and in a joined position the two trumpet parts are at a relatively small distance from one another, whereby the web is compressed and discharged by the trumpet as a sliver. The trumpet, or parts thereof are moveable horizontally, so that the trumpet inlet is situated substantially vertically underneath the shiftable discharge gap in both of its locations. There are further provided a web delivery arrangement which is underneath the trumpet outlet when the web discharge gap is in its first location and a calender roll pair which is underneath the trumpet outlet when the web discharge gap is in its second location.

Apparatus for automatically starting formation of sliver from a carded

An automatic startup device includes a roll assembly for discharging the fiber web; a web transporting arrangement situated under the roll assembly for gathering and advancing the web; and a trumpet situated under the web transporting arrangement. The trumpet has separable parts between which the web in introduced. In a first position the two trumpet parts are at a relatively large distance from one another, whereby the web is discharged by the trumpet in a substantially unaltered state and in a second position the two trumpet parts are at a relatively small distance from one another, whereby the web is compressed and discharged by the trumpet as a sliver. There are further provided a web delivery arrangement under the trumpet for receiving and removing the web; and a calender roll pair arranged under the trumpet for receiving and advancing the sliver discharged by the trumpet.

A sliver coiler for depositing a running sliver into a coiler can includes a driven roller pair including two cooperating rollers arranged for advancing the sliver passing therebetween in a feed direction; and a sliver trumpet supported upstream of the roller pair as viewed in the feed direction and having a passage through which the sliver runs. The sliver trumpet has a first position in which the sliver exit of the passage immediately adjoins and faces the roller pair of a second position in which the sliver exit is at a greater distance from the roller pair than in the first position. The coiler further has a coiler head arranged downstream of the roller pair and arranged for receiving the sliver and forwarding the sliver into a coiler can; a drive for displacing the sliver trumpet between the first and second positions; and a clamping arrangement for grasping the sliver at a location between the sliver entrance of the sliver trumpet and the roller pair. The clamping arrangement has a clamping position in which the sliver is grasped thereby and an open position in which the sliver is released.

A sliver coiler includes a coiling mechanism; a hood covering a top part of the coiling mechanism; a stationary sliver trumpet mounted in the roof of the hood; an air inlet opening provided in the roof and a suction device connected to the hood and arranged for communicating with an inner space of the hood.

Sliver coiler for a carding machine

A sliver coiler includes a rotary head assembly, a trumpet mounted eccentrically in the rotary head assembly and a sliver support situated at a vertical distance above the rotary head assembly and arranged for guiding the sliver to the trumpet orbiting during rotation of the rotary head assembly. There is provided a hood which encloses a volume above the rotary head assembly and which has a ceiling wall provided with an air inlet opening. The sliver support is arranged in a zone of the ceiling wall.

A sliver coiler includes a coiler head supported for rotation about a generally vertical axis; a sliver depositing arrangement carried by the coiler head eccentrically relative to the axis and arranged for receiving sliver from above and discharging sliver downwardly during rotation of the coiler head; a pair of cooperating pressure rollers supported for rotation stationarily upstream of the sliver depositing arrangement as viewed in a running direction of the sliver passing between the pressure rollers; and a drive including a rotatably supported power-driven shaft and first and second drive elements for the coiler head and the pressure rollers, respectively. The first and second drive elements are operatively connected with the power-driven shaft. The first drive element is mounted on the power-driven shaft, and a transmission element connects the first drive element with the coiler head.

A sliver coiler includes a rotary head assembly, a sliver trumpet eccentrically mounted in the rotary head assembly and a sliver guide element situated generally centrally above the rotary head assembly at a distance therefrom, whereby the sliver has an unsupported running portion from the sliver guide element to the sliver trumpet. The angle formed between the plane of rotation of the rotary head assembly and a line connecting the sliver guide element with the sliver trumpet is 30.degree. at the most.

A carding machine has a doffer, a web delivering assembly cooperating with the doffer, a calender unit arranged for receiving a fiber web discharged by the web delivering assembly. The calender unit includes a sliver trumpet and calender rolls. The calender unit is displaceable between an operative position in which the sliver trumpet is situated in the immediate vicinity of the web delivering assembly and an inoperative position in which the sliver trumpet is remote from the web delivering assembly. A start-up tray is movably supported underneath the doffer and the web delivering assembly. The start-up tray guides leading portions of the fiber web from the doffer to the web delivering assembly during start-up operation. The start-up tray is coupled to the calender unit such that the start-up tray is moved by the calender unit into a start-up position when the calender unit moves into its inoperative position and the start-up tray is moved by the calender unit into the withdrawn position when the calender unit moves into its operative position.

A drive for a plurality of rotary components of a carding machine comprises a first gear connected to and driven by a motor, a second gear affixed to a shaft and connected slip-free to the first gear to rotate the shaft, a third gear affixed to the shaft, fourth and fifth gears connected to respective first and second rotary components of the carding machine and driven slip-free by the third gear, a sixth gear affixed to the shaft, seventh and eighth gears connected to respective third and fourth rotary components of the carding machine, an additional shaft connected to a fifth rotary component of the carding machine, a ninth gear affixed to the additional shaft; the sixth gear driving slip-free the seventh, eighth and ninth gears, a tenth gear affixed to the additional shaft; and an eleventh gear connected to a sixth rotary component of the carding machine and driven slip-free by the tenth gear.

Drive for a plurality of rotary carding components

A vacuuming device for carding equipment for cleaning the revolving flats in which a vacuuming box is located between a licker-in and the adjacent flats deflection roller. The vacuuming box is enclosed on all sides. The region of the flats deflection roller on the inside of the revolving flats, accommodates a guide element for diverting dust-laden air in the direction of at least one intake opening in the vacuuming box. This intake opening is associated with the revolving flats. The guide element may be made hollow to receive dust-laden air, and may be connected in a sealing manner with the revolving flats. The vacuuming box may have two intake openings which are placed so that one of these openings always faces an open gap between the revolving flats. The intake openings may be in the form of slots extending throughout the width of the card. A layer for sealing off the revolving flats, may be made of soft material and may be located on the vacuuming box in front of the intake openings.
