A method for operating a roll stand for the stepped rolling of metal strip is described. The metal strip is initially fed into a roll stand on the infeed side, where it is step-rolled. This creates a leading and a trailing section of the metal strip, each with different thicknesses. After the roll stand, the step-rolled metal strip initially passes through an outfeed-side strip accumulator before it is wound into a coil by an upcoiler. The outfeed-side reel is controlled to a constant strip tension. To keep the outfeed-side strip tension sufficiently constant even in the case of rapid changes in the size of the roll gap and the resulting rapid changes in thickness in the rolled metal strip the control of the strip tension with the aid of the upcoiler is supplemented by a position control for a roller unit in the outfeed-side strip accumulator.

Method for operating a roll stand for stepped rolling

A method for continuous casting and rolling at increased casting speed followed by hot rolling of relatively thin metal strand, especially steel strand (), where presetting of target temperatures () of the hot strip () reduces temperature losses in the hot strip () by increasing the temperatures of the work rolls () at a predetermined rate of increase, starting from a low initial temperature (), and by adjusting the strip temperature () to a target rolling temperature () of the hot strip () and/or by automatically controlling or regulating the intensity of the roll cooling ().

Method of casting rolling with increased casting speed and subsequent hot rolling of relatively thin metal strands, particularly steel material strands and casting rolling apparatus

Rolling stand for producing rolled strip, which includes work rolls, which are supported on backup rolls or intermediate rolls and backup rolls. The work rolls and/or the backup rolls and/or the intermediate rolls can be axially shifted relative to one another. The barrel length (L) of each intermediate roll in a six-high rolling stand or of each work roll in a four-high rolling stand has a cylindrical roll barrel section (Z) and a convexly curved roll barrel section (R(x)), such that the transition point from the cylindrical to the curved roll barrel section, calculated from the cylindrical end of the roll barrel, is in the range of L/2&#x2266;x&#x3c;L. The curved contour, which extends towards opposite ends of the two rolls over a portion of the barrel, is described by a polynomial R(x)=a+ . . . ax, where n&#x2267;5.

Convex roll used for influencing the profile and flatness of a milled strip

The invention relates to a method and a device for applying an adjustable tensile-stress distribution, in particular in the edge regions during the cold-rolling of metal strips (), in particular metal foil, in order to reduce the risk of an excessive build-up of tension and cracks at the edges of the strip, which can lead as a negative consequence to cracks in the strip and to a reduction in production, and in order to improve the surface of the strip and its planarity, even for a relatively high strip displacement speed, and also to reduce strip trimming widths. To achieve these aims, at least one or a combination of two of the following measures are implemented: a) separation of lubrication and cooling of the working rolls by lubricating on the run-in side and cooling on the discharge side, b) additional influencing of the strip edges using a hot edge spray', in particular by spraying () rolling oil with differing temperatures in zones, c) use of a special cross-sectional configuration of the working rolls (') in the vicinity of the strip edges, which creates a partial material build-up during the blooming pass, said build-up forming a longer strip edge with subsequent passes, thus counteracting the risk of an excessive build-up of tensile stress.

Method and device for applying an adjustable tensile-stress distribution, in particular in the edge regions of cold-rolled metal strips

A rolling mill stand with work rolls which are supported as necessary by back-up rolls or by intermediate and back-up rolls. The rolls are axially slidable relative to each other. The bodies of the rolls are provided with alternatingly concavely and convexly shaped contours in such a way that the rolls supplement each other in at least one axial position of the rolls so that no gap exists between the rolls. Corrections of the roll gap between a pair of rolls can be carried out by relative axial displacement of the rolls. The contours of the rolls have in the neutral position thereof, in addition to a maximum inclination in the middle, maximum inclinations of the circumferential lines on both sides of the middle of the circumferential surfaces of the rolls in longitudinal direction of the rolls in which roll gap profile changes are to be effected.

Rolling mill stand with axially slidable rolls

The device serves to control the desired lifting and pressure-containing movements of strip pressure rolls for the reels which serve to store hot rolled strip. These reels have a rotating mandrel. The pressure rolls are actuated by piston and cylinder units for positioning the rolls electro-hydraulically in conformity with signals which indicate the relative position of the leading strip edge which rotates with the mandrel. The positioning of the roll, by the lifting and pressure-contacting movements, is effectd by position control with subordinated pressure control in a closed-circuit position control loop and a closed-circuit pressure control loop, by input of a setpoint position value which corresponds to the respectively prevailing pressure-contacting and lifting position of the pressure rolls, and by establishment of limited setpoint pressure values for both functions or directions of movement.

Device for controlling the lifting and pressure movements of strip

A metallic strip is hot-rolled in a succession of roll stands arranged in a row by passing the strip longitudinally in a travel direction through the stands. The strip is then compressed in the upstream stands to substantially reduce its thickness measured perpendicular to the travel direction and parallel to the strip while substantially increasing its width measured perpendicular to the travel direction and transverse to the strip. Then in the downstream stands it is compressed and tensioned without substantially increasing its width to level it and stretch it longitudinally in the travel direction. With standard steel strip this critical thickness is about 12 mm. The local band thickness is measured downstream of the upstream roll stands and the furthest downstream stand of the upstream stands is operated to eliminate any nonuniformities in thickness thus detected. The nonuniformities are detected by comparing the local band thicknesses detected with standard set-point thicknesses.

Controlling thickness and planarity of hot rolled strips

In a positioning control device for guiding the side edges of an elongated strip at the entrance into a hot-rolled wide strip finish rolling mill train, guidance feed members are displaced transversely of the rolling direction by piston-cylinder assemblies. Appropriate displacement of the guidance feed members depends on continuously transmitted measured actual values of the strip position within the rolling train which are compared with preset required values. If the width of the strip exceeds a nominal width then large deformation of the strip side edges occurs along with axial reaction forces in the roller supports of the first rolling stand in the finish rolling mill. To avoid damage to the first rolling stand and to the strip, a pressure regulation is superimposed on the position regulation and depending on a comparison of the actual value of the measured upsetting force acting along the strip side edges with a predetermined required value, a correction-setting signal is generated for the displacement of the guidance feed members in the opening or closing direction relative to one another.
