A container for liquids and bulk materials is made from a blank having a plurality of sets of folding lines thereon. The container comprises a substantially parallelipipedic body having side walls and laterial edges between the side walls, the lateral edges comprising a first set of folding lines of the blank, and a funnel-shaped portion on top of the body comprising faces extending from the side walls, the head portion tapering in cross-section towards a central annular opening of predetermined shape. The head portion further comprises triangular folding pockets folded inwardly along a second set of folding lines towards the interior of the head portion and outwardly along a third set of folding lines so that the folding pockets are disposed in pairs and bear along interior surfaces of the faces. The folding pockets are sealed to the interior surfaces along the interior folds and along upper edges of the folding pockets so that the folding pockets are closed off to the interior of the head portion. The container further comprises a spout or an adapted for a spout and a flange disposed on the funnel-shaped head portion from the interior of the container. The spout or adapter and the flange are shaped to conform to the predetermined shape of the central annular opening. Preferably, the container is made from a cardboard material, or a cardboard/plastic multi-layer composite material.

A cuboid package suitable as a container for a liquid or a food comprises a body formed from a blank of packaging material having a plurality of longitudinal, transverse, and oblique groove lines thereon, said body being shaped into a base, four side walls, a flat top, and gable pocket adjoining one of the side walls and extending under the flat top so that the gable pocket lies within the cuboid outer contour of the body. The gable pocket comprises an inclined surface formed from a re-entrant fold of the blank and lateral pocket surfaces. A pouring spout or an adapter which receives a pouring spount is disposed on the inclined surface of the gable pocket.

The invention relates to a package for liquid made of a coated cardboard composite, having a pierceable opening for a drinking straw, which has incisions 11 running towards one another in the form of rays or a star, and perferably a cutout 9 located at the star point of the incisions. An opening thus constructed for a drinking straw easily enables an arbitrarily concentric expansion of the star flaps located between the incisions, so that said flags rest sealingly on the drinking straw in each case. This guarantees for different drinking straws a uniform opening for the drinking straw which can be introduced into the multilayer cardboard composite both before it is coated and after it is coated.

A parallelepipedal package, especially one made of a composite of cardboard and plastic, for liquids, soups, and similar products, with a front wall, a rear wall, and two side walls, with a square or rectangular top wall and a square or rectangular bottom wall, and with its edges drawn in to create at least one convex area. The drawn-in edges of the package extend over an area located strictly at the top of the otherwise still parallelepipedal package.

A parallelepipedal flat-gabled package, especially an eared package with a medial seam, having an area in the gable that has been prepared such that it can be penetrated or separated along a closed curve and, once it has been penetrated or separated, will constitute a pouring hole. The package also has a plastic pour-out structure that has a flange surrounding the pouring hole, rigidly secured to the outer surface of the gable, and into the spout of which can be axially inserted a tube with a circumference that matches the closed curve. It also has a number of triangular teeth along the surface that faces the pouring hole, and a cap that can be repeatedly employed to close the spout, the inner surface of the package being coated with a hot-adhering film of plastic. The closure-flap cap is securely attached to the tube, by way of a connecting strip, and is articulated to the tab on the pour-out structure, which is in the form of a spout.

A plastic-coated cardboard blank for forming a container of rectangular cross-section having a gabled top, the blank comprising four walls, a first pair of opposite walls each having fold lines forming an upwardly convergent triangle having its apex some distance below the top of its respective wall, the second pair of opposite walls being adapted to be joined to one another at their tops to form the gable, one of the first pair of walls having a cut-out in its top above its respective apex, whereby upon erecting the blank and joining the tops of the second pair of walls the resulting gable closes off the cut-out but upon opening the gable the cut-out is uncovered for insertion of a straw therethrough into the interior of the container.

In a die-cut cardboard blank coated on at least one side with plastic and/or aluminum foil and capable of being folded into a liquid packaging container having a planar, rectangular folded bottom sealed in a liquid-tight manner with an overlapped seam and a protected edge on the inner bottom fold-in panel, the improvement which comprises providing the blank with an inner bottom fold-in panel having in its marginal area a die-cut notch extending beyond the visible area when folded, this notch being filmed over with the coating material. Alternatively, the blank may be provided with an inner bottom and triangular fold flaps, the triangular fold flaps having tips which in folded condition abut one another and cover the inner bottom fold-in panel, the tips being die-cut and filmed over with coating material.

A parallelepipedal gable-topped bulk-material container made out of a multilayer plastic laminate and with its head sealed by a ridged seam, leaving two superimposed triangular folding tabs at the ends of the seam, whereby each tab is wrapped out and around a straight buckling edge on each side of the container and the container material has longitudinal and transverse or sloping scores for the edges of the body and floor or gable edges. To maintain the integrity of a ridged seam when manufacturing and sealing thick-walled containers in a filling machine and hence eliminate ridged-seam fracture, the container has at least one auxiliary score for each vertical body score in the vicinity of the gable and out of alignment with the body score.

The invention relates to a tear-open flap orifice on packs consisting of plastic-coated laminated material with a folded-round fillet-seam closure (10), there being in a first seam region (14) at least one full cut and in a second seam region (15) at least one weakening line in the form of a half cut which extends beyond the second seam region into the region of the first pack surface in contact with the filling material of the pack. As a result of an appropriate arrangement of the full cuts and half cuts, an easy-to-handle tear-open flap orifice is obtained by simple means for the entire range from drinking-straw, pour-out, drinking and spoon orifices to separating-strip orifices on freeze packs.

In a blank for folding into a parallelepipedal package that is intended for liquids, the blank having an area that is to be folded into a double-M closure for a gable-shape top having inwardly folded opposite triangular sections and a middle fold line, the improvement which comprises providing each of said opposite triangular sections with a slit that slants from the upper edge down to or slightly beyond the middle fold line, whereby the folded package has an improved seal. When the cross-section is square, the slits should be parallel so that the folded areas dogleg and overlap.

In a plastic-coated cardboard milk or like container with a weakened area through which a straw is to be inserted, a pair of weakened lines surrounding such area on the inside and outside of the container respectively, the area enclosed by the line on the outside being smaller than the area enclosed by the line on the inside. This facilitates opening while resisting accidental opening under pressure from the inside.

In a cardboard blank for a gas-tight and liquid-tight folding box, especially one printed externally, carrying on the cardboard surface which is to be the inside of the box a full-surface layer of heat-sealable plastic, the improvement which comprises an additional plastic layer positioned between the full-surface plastic layer and the cardboard, the additional layer being provided only over portions of the surface including the seam areas, the thickness of the full-surface plastic layer together with the local additional plastic layer being sufficient for tight, hot-sealed seams. The additional layer can be hot melt printed onto the cardboard, before application of the full-surface layer, at the same time the cardboard is printed and/or die cut. By providing the additional layer only in critical areas such as seams or fold lines, a thinner full-surface layer can be provided with an overall economy of plastic.
