An apparatus for controlling a fiber processing plant including a series of processing stages in order to supply fibrous material as a product with predetermined qualities, whereby the qualities of the product can be influenced by suitable, selectively adjustable treatment of fibrous material during its passage through the plant and whereby in at least one of the intermediate stages of the plant an ascertainable quality of the product of this stage is determined. In this intermediate stage a signal is obtained which is equivalent to the ascertainable quality and which is used for controlling the previous stages.

The combing machine is provided with a plurality of combing devices for delivering a plurality of combed slivers as well as a drafting system for receiving and drafting the combed slivers for delivery to a can press. A measuring device is provided to measure the thickness of the sliver delivered to the drafting system and to deliver a signal to a control unit which, in turn, regulates the drafting of the sliver within the drafting system in accordance with the received signal in order to obtain an evened combed sliver.

A method and an apparatus for operating a process line in a spinning mill comprising various regions, for example comprising at least the regions blow room, spinning preparation and spinning, with each region being put together from several textile machines which operate in series and/or in parallel and form a machine plane, and with the individual series connected textile machines producing different fiber structures, wherein raw fiber material which enters into the blow room is obtained as spun yarn at the output of the spinning mill, is characterized in that one measures at least one quality feature of the respectively produced fiber structure at at least some textile machines in each of the named regions and uses it to regulate the respective textile machine or an earlier textile machine of the same region; and in that correction values are formed from at least some of the quality features measured in the spinning preparation and spinning regions and are used to influence the operation of a textile machine of an earlier region.

Method and apparatus for regulating quality parameters in a yarn

The combing machine comprises a continuously rotatable circular-comb cylinder carrying a circular-comb segment and detaching segment. The detaching segment cooperates with a detaching pressure roll. The combing machine also contains a nipper unit comprising a lower nipper which is stationary relative to the axis of the continuously rotatable circular-comb cylinder, and an upper nipper which is movable relative to the lower nipper. The fibers detached by the detaching segment together with the detaching pressure roll are sucked as fiber clusters into a suction shaft or tube, or can be united to form a sliver at a rotatable screening or sieve drum. The suction shaft includes a flexible membrane to close the shaft. The combining machine is of simple construction and economical to manufacture and renders possible a high operating speed and, therefore, a higher output, particularly in the absence of a top comb between the lower nipper and the detaching pressure roll.

A rotational bearing arrangement for high speeds of rotation comprises a casing and a shaft mounted therein at a first ball bearing and a second ball bearing. At least the first ball bearing is a radial shoulder ball bearing. The first ball bearing has a first track formed on the shaft and a first outer race and the second ball bearing has a second track formed on the shaft and a second outer race. One coacting track and one outer race in combination form the ways for the balls of each associated ball bearing. The outer races are disposed in hollow substantially cylindrical seats formed by the casing. The first outer race when secured in its assembled state is disposed in a seat which constitutes a sliding seat, the seat dimensions being such that the outer race when introduced into but not secured in the seat can be reciprocated substantially effortlessly in axial direction. Certain advantages of such rotational bearing arrangement are that even at very high rotational speeds vibrations and excessive wear are obviated and the rotational bearing arrangement has a long service life. Difficulties because of balancing problems and the stability of shaft shape are obviated.

Rotational bearing arrangement for high speeds of rotation

The horizontally mounted rotational bearing arrangement for high speeds of rotation is mounted in a casing in two radial rolling bearings. Each radial rolling bearing comprises rolling members guided by an associated cage, and further comprises a groove provided at the shaft and operative as an inner race, as well as an outer race. A respective slinger ring is disposed between each radial rolling bearing and associated cover plate. An impingement surface extends around the associated slinger ring and is in alignment with an operative edge of such slinger ring. This impingement surface is effective for returning lubricant to the rolling members of the associated radial rolling bearing. The cage of each radial rolling bearing is constructed such that by virtue of its movement in operation, the lubricant is conveyed to the rolling members of the associated radial rolling bearing. The rotational bearing arrangement has the advantages of substantially obviating the entry of dirt into the interior of the rotational bearing arrangement and, more particularly, egress of lubricant therefrom.

Rotational bearing arrangement for high rotational speeds

The device for transporting fiber sliver cans employs pairs of rails for supporting a can during travel in a non-linear path. The pairs of rails are moved relative to each other in an endless path so that a can is supported on only one pair of rails during the forward movement of that pair of rails. No floor plate is required to support the cans. The straight rails of each set are interconnected by curved rails of an intermediate set of rails.

The fiber sliver can transporting device uses rails which are driven in an alternating manner to lift and roll a can along a horizontal guide plate in a step-wise manner with the can being guided by the vertical boards through a non-linear path.

The can transporting device transports the cans by using rails which are driven synchronously by crank drives. In one embodiment, the cans rest on a floorplate while the rails are moved so as to transport the cans in a forward step-wise manner along the floorplate. In non-linear arrangements, straight rails are jointed to each other by curved rails. In this embodiment, an additional crank drive is provided to support the outer curved rail for vertical movement. The transport direction of the cans can be selected through selection of the direction of rotation of a gear motor which drives the transmission for the crank drives.

The starting or re-piecing of a yarn in an open end spinning machine is accomplished during full speed rotation of the spinning unit. A travelling piecer provides a fixed length of yarn to be back-fed into the spinning unit. A control which is responsive to the speed of rotation of the spinning unit causes the nip rolls to close together in order to deliver the new yarn from the spinning unit at the operating speed of the spinning unit.

Open-end yarn piecer

The travelling piecer carries a lever to separate the nip rollers, a yarn reserve forming device to receive the yarn and a threading device for threading a broken yarn from a package between the nip rolls and through the yarn reserve forming device. The piecer also has a control which effects a piecing operation in which a clutch is actuated to feed fiber into the spinning unit while yarn is back-fed into the unit from the yarn reserve. At the completion of a predetermined time period (T) the nip rolls are re-engaged to withdraw the re-pieced yarn.

Each cover of a spinning station is provided with a rail element for guiding the service tender along the aligned spinning stations. In addition, the service tender carries a guide means in the form of a roller which has a cylindrical part to roll on the rail element of the covers when the covers are in a closed position as well as a frusto-conical part for rolling on the rail elements when the covers are in an open condition.

Automat location system

On textile machines, on which packages are wound with a set or reference yarn length, the changing of these packages by means of a travelling package changing device should be carried out in such time optimized manner that the largest possible number of winding positions can be serviced by the package changing device. For this purpose, the yarn length of packages to be wound is signalled continuously to a computer by means of yarn length measuring units and the location of a package changer is continuously signalled to the computer by means of positioning units. If certain packages reach a remainder or residual yarn length before reaching the set yarn length, then the wind-up times for the remainder yarn length of these packages are compared by the computer with the respective travelling times of a package changer to these packages and registered in an optimization procedure, for example for three of these packages. For these three registered packages, the computer determines a package changing sequence in which the waiting times until package change of the individual packages are either equal to zero or at least as small as possible.

To ensure for the effective removal by suction of thread breaks, even at long ring spinning machines in an economical manner, a second duct or channel is provided above a package creel and parallel to a first suction duct or channel. Both ducts discharge into a common suction chamber. Connecting channels conduct a portion of the air quantity sucked-up by suction nozzles into the second duct or channel. The cross-section of the second duct is enlarged, with increasing length of such duct, in a manner such that there prevails in both ducts essentially the same mean air velocity.
