A video signal processing apparatus for processing a video signal at the time of a special reproduction mode comprises an A/D converter for converting a reproduced video signal obtained by demodulating a frequency modulated signal reproduced from a recording medium during the special reproduction mode into a first digital video signal, a memory having a memory capacity for at least storing the first digital video signal corresponding to one field, a switching circuit for selectively producing the first digital video signal or a second digital video signal read out from the memory, a first circuit for at least generating a first pulse signal having a pulse width corresponding to a predetermined time period and a second pulse signal which determines the read-out timing of the memory, a second circuit for generating a control signal based on the first and second pulse signals for controlling read-out from the memory and causing the switching circuit to selectively produce the second digital video signal during a time period approximately corresponding to the predetermined time period, and a D/A converter for obtaining a reproduced composite video signal from the output digital video signal of the switching circuit.

A video signal slow-motion or still picture reproduction system comprises at least one rotary video head for scanning a tape recorded with an FM video signal on tracks formed obliquely with respect to the longitudinal direction of the tape, a drum pulse obtaining circuit for obtaining a drum pulse in phase synchronism with the rotation of the rotary video head, a counting pulse generation circuit for generating a counting pulse in phase synchronism with the rotation of said rotary video head and having a repetition frequency sufficiently high with respect to the drum pulse, a noise detection pulse generation circuit for generating a noise detection pulse having a pulse width equal to a period in which an envelope of the FM video signal reproduced by the reproducing circuit is lower than a predetermined level, when the envelope of the FM video signal reproduced by the reproducing circuit is lower than the predetermined level, a calculation circuit supplied with the drum pulse, the counting pulse, and the noise detection pulse, for calculating an error between a point corresponding to a vertical blanking period of the reproduced FM video signal and a noise position within the reproduced FM video signal, and a circuit for driving the tape with a timing according to the calculated error obtained by the calculation circuit, and stopping the tape travel with a timing according to a value obtained by multiplying a coefficient to the error so that the noise position is within the vertical blanking period, to cause intermittent tape travel and to stop the tape travel.

A magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus comprises first through fourth circuits. The first circuit edits and records a new video signal within a predetermined section of a magnetic tape which is pre-recorded with a video signal and a control signal on respective video and control tracks. The second circuit produces a new control signal having a frequency identical to that of the pre-recorded control signal. The third circuit reproduces the pre-recorded control signal from the tape while the first circuit is operating. The fourth circuit detects the existence of a control signal reproduced by the third circuit, and supplies the new control signal which is produced by the second circuit to the third circuit when the non-existence of the reproduced control signal is detected, so as to record the new control signal on the control track of the tape.

A series of film-containing cassettes are placed in projecting positions and thereafter in rewinding positions. First and second take-up reels are arranged to be axially movable between first and second positions. An elongate film guide member is movable between an active position in which the guide defines a straight threading path between the cassette occupying the projecting position and the take-up reel occupying the first position and a normally inactive position in which the guide is clear of the threading path. In the film threading mode, the leading end of film is driven through the straight threading path and taken up by the take-up reel. A film handling mechanism is provided between the opposite ends of the threading path. Upon completion of film threading, the movable elongate guide is restored to the inactive position and the film handling mechanism is brought into operation to engage the film with an aperture plate. Upon completion of film projection, the cassette and the first take-up reel which occupy the projecting and first positions, respectively, are shifted to the rewinding and second positions, respectively. A subsequent cassette is shifted to the projecting position and the second take-up reel occupies the first position. Film threading of the subsequent film cassette is effected simultaneously with rewinding of the previous cassette.
