To provide a liquid repellent composition whereby a treated article excellent in liquid repellency is obtainable, which is excellent in stability and does not have such a problem as an odor attributable to ammonia or an organic amine; a method for its production; and a method for producing oil resistant paper. The liquid repellent composition comprises a copolymer (A) having structural units derived from a monomer (a) represented by the formula R-Q-X&#x2014;C(O)C(R)&#x2550;CH(Ris a Cperfluoroalkyl group, Q is a divalent hydrocarbon group that does not contain a fluorine atom; X is &#x2014;O&#x2014; or NH&#x2014;, and R is a hydrogen atom, a methyl group or a chlorine atom) and structural units derived from a monomer (b) having an anionic group, alkali metal ions and an aqueous medium; wherein the mass average molecular weight of the copolymer (A) is at most 84,000; at least some of counterions to the anionic groups are alkali metal ions; and the molar ratio of alkali metal ions to anionic groups in the liquid repellent composition is from 0.6 to 1.29.

Liquid repellent composition, method for its production, and method for producing oil resistant paper

The paper composite contains: a paper substrate having an air permeation resistance of 1,000 sec or less and bulk density of from 0.5 to 1.0 g/cm; and a greaseproof layer on at least one side thereof, the greaseproof layer containing an ethylene-vinyl alcohol polymer (A) and a cationic fluorine-containing polymer (B) having two specific constitutional units. A content of the copolymer (B) in the greaseproof layer is from 5 to 50 parts by mass with respect to 100 parts by mass of the polymer (A), an amount of the greaseproof layer on dry mass basis is from 0.1 to 3.0 g/m, and a water vapor permeability of the paper composite is 1,000 g/m&#xb7;24 h or greater.

To provide a water/oil resistant composition this imparts a sufficient water/oil resistance to a base material when a fluorinated copolymer having an Rgroup with at most 6 carbon atoms is used. The water/oil resistance is not substantially influenced by an adjuvant or the pH of dilution water, and the composition has little odor. Also provided are a treated article and production processes. The water/oil resistant composition has a fluorinated copolymer dispersed or dissolved in a medium, and the fluorinated copolymer is one having one, some or all of amino groups in a fluorinated copolymer comprising structural units based on a monomer (a) having a CRgroup and structural units based on a monomer (b) having an amino group, converted to form a salt with an organic acid comprising an organic acid having a pKa of from 2.0 to 4.0.
