A communication device and a method of making a communication device having an antenna assembly display and that supports multi-band communication. A multi-band antenna assembly of the communication device is incorporated into a telescoping support structure positionable between a compact arrangement and an extended arrangement to change an amount of a scrollable or rollable flexible display is presented. The antenna assembly includes at least one upper antenna positioned at an upper lateral side of a top end portion of the telescoping support portion and at least one lower antenna positioned at a lower lateral side of a bottom end portion of the telescoping support structure. The antenna assembly supports multi-band radio frequency (RF) communication in support of cellular and wireless protocols.

Multi-band antenna system for a communication device with expandable display form factor

A communication device provides a communication provide a multi-band antenna assembly incorporated into a telescoping support structure that is positionable between a compact arrangement and an extended arrangement. The antenna assembly includes at least one antenna having one antenna element that moves with an end portion of the telescoping support structure and another antenna element at an intermediate portion of the telescoping support structure that moves relative to the end portion. A communication device, method and computer program product enable transceivers to communicate via antennas supported by a configurable housing assembly. First and second housing portions are connected at respective proximal sides for relative movement between an open position and a closed position about a lateral axis. First and second antenna elements of a first antenna array each have an elongated shape and are configured to communicate in radio frequency (RF) communication band(s). The first and the second antenna elements are supported respectively by the first and the second housing portions. The first antenna element is proximate to and substantially aligned in parallel with the second antenna element when the housing assembly is in the closed position and separated when the housing assembly is in the open position. A first antenna feed/source network eliminates array cancellations between the first and the second antenna elements when the housing assembly is in the closed position.

Communication device having a configurable housing assembly with multiple antennas

A communication device incorporates, and a method provides increased communication coverage for a second user device. A support structure has a first spatial portion including first radio frequency (RF) antenna(s) and a second spatial portion including second RF antenna(s). The first and second RF antenna(s) are respectively on different sides of a body of a person for communication coverage for a received RF signal. The first and second RF antenna(s) are spaced apart on the support structure for reduced interference from inter-antenna coupling. A communication subsystem demodulates the RF signal to a baseband signal that is transmitted through a communication cable to a second user device with low data latency.

A communication device, method and computer program product enable multiple transceiver communication by antennas within a configurable housing assembly. First, second, and third antennas are separate in an open position and are proximate and aligned in a closed position. A first radio frequency (RF) transceiver communicates via the first antenna and a second RF transceiver that communicates via one of the second and third antennas via the first antenna switch. A controller is communicatively coupled to a first antenna switch and a housing sensor. In response to determining that the housing assembly is in at least partially open position, the controller configures the first antenna switch to connect a second RF transceiver to a second antenna. In response to determining that the housing assembly is in the closed position, the controller configures the first antenna switch to connect the second RF transceiver to the third antenna.

Communication device having antenna pairing based on relative positions of housing portions

A communication device, method and computer program product enable multiple transceiver communication in a communication device having a configurable housing. A pivot mechanism is connected between first and second housing portions for relative movement of a housing assembly between open and closed positions. The closed position aligns four antenna positions in the first housing portion adjacent to one of four antenna positions in the second housing portion to present four pairings of adjacent antenna positions. Four antennas are positioned within the first housing portion or the second housing portion at a different one of the four pairings of adjacent antenna positions. A radio frequency (RF) front end is communicatively coupled to the four antennas and has two or more transceivers that utilize the four antennas to communicate without antenna-to-antenna signal cancellation in RF low band while the housing assembly is in either of the open position and the closed position.

Various implementations form an antenna unit capable of millimeter waveform and/or microwave waveform transmissions. An antenna comprises a conductive plate that includes an aperture. The aperture has a shape that extends along an axis that bisects the aperture into first and second bisected portions, the first bisected portion having a first geometry type, and the second portion having a second geometry type that is a bilateral symmetry shape type of the first geometry type. In implementations, the aperture is configured to radiate waveforms within a frequency range from about between 600 Megahertz (MHz) to 72 Gigahertz (GHz) by applying multiple signal feeds to the conductive plate.

Various implementations form an antenna unit capable of millimeter waveform and/or microwave waveform transmissions. A bottom shielding structure of the antenna unit defines a cavity, where various implementations include one or more dampening structures within the cavity. Some implementations includes a slot antenna within the cavity defined by the bottom shielding structure, such as a coplanar waveguide (CPW) direct-fed slot antenna, to form a cavity-backed slot antenna. Some implementations connect a top shielding structure to the bottom shielding structure to encase the slot antenna. In one or more implementations, the top shielding structure includes aperture windows to allow waveforms within a frequency range from about between 600 Megahertz (MHz) to 72 Gigahertz (GHz). and radiated by the slot antenna to radiate outward from the antenna unit.

Techniques for antenna system with multiple transmit paths are described and may be implemented via a wireless device to adapt to a variety of different wireless scenarios. A communication device, method and computer program product enable multiple independent communication connections via multiple antennas supported by a configurable housing assembly having first and second housing portions connected for movement between open and closed positions. In response to housing assembly being in an open position, a radio frequency (RF) front end of the communication device is configured to independently communicate in at least a low band via first and second antennas supported by a first housing portion and second and fourth antennas supported by a second housing portion. In response to the housing assembly being in the closed position that brings the first and second antennas into proximity and the third and fourth antennas into proximity, the RF front end is configured to communicate via a first antenna array of the first and the second antennas and via a second antenna array of the third and the fourth antennas.

Communication device having configurable housing assembly with multiple antennas

The present application provides a housing for an electronic device sub-assembly for use in an electronic device having wireless communication capabilities. The electronic device sub-assembly includes a loop antenna structure having a conductive ground structure, and a conductive loop element separate from the conductive ground structure. The conductive loop element has two ends and a conductive path, which extends between the two ends a distance away from the conductive ground structure. The conductive loop element is coupled to the conductive ground structure at each of the two ends, and the distance that the conductive path of the conductive loop element extends away from the conductive ground structure encloses an area forming a loop which is internal to the loop antenna structure. The electronic device sub-assembly further includes a signal source coupled between the conductive loop element and the conductive ground structure across the loop for applying a drive signal. The electronic device sub-assembly still further includes one or more auxiliary electronic elements, where the one or more auxiliary electronic elements each have a primary purpose that is separate from the loop antenna structure. The one or more auxiliary electronic elements each include a ground which is coupled to the conductive ground structure via the conductive loop element.
