A cylindrical column-shaped honeycomb adsorbent has a plurality of cell passages extending along an axial direction of the honeycomb adsorbent. The plurality of cell passages are configured so that a pitch of adjacent cell passages is within a range of 1.5 mm&#x2dc;1.8 mm, and so that a thickness of a wall between the cell passages is within a range of 0.45 mm&#x2dc;0.60 mm. With this configuration, the honeycomb adsorbent exhibits BWC (Butane Working Capacity) of 6.5 g/dL or greater. By mixing fibrous meltable core melting away during baking, the honeycomb adsorbent has macropores configured to have a volume of 0.15 mL/g&#x2dc;0.35 mL/g with respect to an overall weight of the honeycomb adsorbent and metal oxide particles having a proportion of weight of 150&#x2dc;250% with respect to the activated carbon.

Honeycomb adsorbent, method of manufacturing the honeycomb adsorbent and canister

A fuel adsorption device may include a case and a heater. The case may be metal and may have a multi-cylindrical shape. The case may accommodate a plurality of adsorbents configured to at least one of adsorb and desorb evaporated fuel. The case may include a cylindrical first wall part, at least one cylindrical second wall part disposed further inward than the first wall part, and a plurality of connection parts connecting the first wall part and the at least one second wall part to one other. A first adsorbent of the plurality of adsorbents may be arranged in a first space disposed between the first wall part and the second wall part. A second adsorbent of the plurality of adsorbents may be arranged in a second space disposed further inward than the second wall part. The heater may be disposed on an outer surface of the first wall part.

Fuel adsorption device and evaporated fuel processing apparatus including the same

A heater for a canister includes a heater case embedded within an adsorption material and sealed at a top, and a heater core having a heat generation element and installed in the heater case. The bottom of the heater case is fitted into a heater retaining hole of a cap member in a hermetically-sealed state, for enabling the heat generation element and terminals of the heater core to be completely separated from the gas atmosphere containing the adsorbed fuel components within an activated carbon region. A leaf spring having a heat conductivity is arranged between an outside surface of one of a pair of strip-shaped ceramic plates constructing part of the heater core and an inner wall surface of the heater case, for retaining the heater core in place within the heater case and for permitting heat transfer from the heat generation element to the adsorption material.

Disclosed is an evaporated fuel processing apparatus for an internal combustion engine including: a canister; and a purge passage supplying purge gas including evaporated fuel separated from the canister to an intake system therethrough; characterized in that the evaporated fuel processing apparatus further comprises a pulsation pump supplying the purge gas to the intake system by using a pumping action responding to intake pulsation generated in an intake passage of the internal combustion engine. The pulsation pump includes: a first chamber; a communication passage communicating with the first chamber and the intake passage; an elastic body being deformed depending on pressure fluctuation of the first chamber; a second chamber formed so as to surround the elastic body; a suction port provided with a check valve allowing inflow of gas into the second chamber, and a discharge port provided with a check valve allowing outflow of gas from the second chamber.

Evaporated fuel processing apparatus for internal combustion engine

A canister is provided with a flange for partitioning part of one axial end of an adsorption material chamber and having a first cylindrical portion protruding toward the adsorption material chamber for defining a space communicating with a purge port, a second cylindrical portion extending toward a first axial end portion of a case for defining a diffusion chamber communicating with a charge port, and orifices for communicating the adsorption material chamber with the diffusion chamber. Also provided are a first partition wall positioned close to a top end of the first cylindrical portion and having an annularly-shaped orifice, and a second partition wall axially spaced apart from the first partition wall toward a second axial end portion and having communication holes. These partition walls cooperate with each other such that a second diffusion chamber not charged with an adsorption material is defined between them, for optimal charge-gas conversion-and-diffusion.

Canister

A canister has a housing whose one end is provided with a charge port and a purge port and whose other end is provided with a drain port and a heater. The housing is divided into a no-heat-application section on a charge port and purge port side and a heat-application section on a drain port side. The heat-application section is further divided into at least two spaces of a first space located on the drain port side and a second space located on a no-heat-application section side. The first space is filled with an activated carbon whose BWC is equal to or greater than 6 g/dL and less than 10 g/dL, and the second space is filled with an activated carbon whose BWC is 13 g/dL or greater. The heater heats whole of the heat-application section including the first space and the second space.

To reduce size and weight of canister while improving adsorbing/desorbing performance by optimizing adsorbent that fills chamber located at air release side. Adsorbent filling chamberslocated at air portside, of a plurality of chambersthat are arranged in series along an air flow direction in caseis formed by macroscopic pore whose diameter is 50 nm or greater. The adsorbent has hollow cylindrical shape whose inside thickness is 0.6 to 1.5 mm and whose outside diameter is 4 to 6 mm or hollow spherical shape whose inside thickness is 0.6 to 1.5 mm and whose diameter is 4 to 6 mm. A ratio of volume of the macroscopic pore whose diameter is less than 500 nm to total volume of the macroscopic pore whose diameter is equal to or greater than 50 nm is within a range of 30 to 70%.

A fuel vapor treatment device including a casing including a gas passage formed in the casing, a granular adsorbent filled in the gas passage, the granular adsorbent serving to adsorb and desorb fuel vapor, and a desorption promoting structure to promote desorption of the fuel vapor in a central portion of a cross-sectional area of the gas passage as compared to an outer peripheral portion of the cross-sectional area of the gas passage.

Fuel vapor treatment device

A canister is provided with a plurality of adsorbent chambers filled with adsorbent, and the adsorbent chambers are connected together so as to form a U-turn-shaped passage. The canister has a communication chamber through which both end portions of adjacent two adsorbent chambers communicate with each other; a middle chamber formed at the end portion of one of the adjacent two adsorbent chambers, which is positioned at a downstream side of the communication chamber, and connected to the communication chamber through a communication hole; a baffle plate set in the middle chamber with the baffle plate facing to the communication hole so that an incoming air flow from the communication hole strikes against the baffle plate and diffuses in the middle chamber; and a tubular portion protruding in the communication chamber from an opening edge of the communication hole along a longitudinal direction of the one adsorbent chamber.
