A cathode substrate () and gate substrate () are arranged such that at least gate ribs () abut against cathode ribs () and gate electrodes () and, depending on the case, the cathode ribs () abut against cathodes (). The gate ribs () and cathode ribs () can be formed to heights of about 5 &#x3bc;m to 300 &#x3bc;m. The gate ribs () can be surface-polished so their heights are uniform. The distance between the cathode electrodes () and gate electrodes () can accordingly be made uniform and short, so driving at a low voltage and an increase in luminance uniformity can be realized.

Flat panel display

A fluorescent display device includes a front glass at least part of which is translucent, a substrate, a cathode, an electron-emitting layer, an electron extracting electrode, a phosphor film and an anode, and a conductive layer. The substrate is formed of an insulating member arranged to oppose the front glass. The front glass and the substrate constitute part of a vacuum envelope. The cathode is disposed on the substrate. The electron-emitting layer includes a carbon nanotube and is formed on a surface of the cathode. The electron extracting electrode is arranged between the substrate and the front glass to be spaced apart from the cathode. The phosphor layer and the anode stack on a surface of the front glass which opposes the substrate. The conductive layer is formed between the cathode and the substrate.

Fluorescent display device

A flat panel display includes a substrate, a front glass, a cathode, a gate electrode, a plurality of front ribs, a phosphor film and a metal-backed film, and a gate rib. The front glass is arranged to oppose the substrate and forms a vacuum envelope together with the substrate. The front glass is transparent at least partially. The cathode is arranged on the substrate. The gate electrode is arranged between the substrate and front glass and includes an electron-passing hole through which an electron emitted from the cathode passes. The front ribs extend vertically at a predetermined interval from the front glass toward the gate electrode. The phosphor film and metal-backed film are stacked on a region of the front glass which is sandwiched by the front ribs. The gate rib extends vertically from the gate electrode toward the front glass and is in contact with the front ribs. A gate electrode structure and a gate electrode structure manufacturing method are also disclosed.

Flat panel display, gate electrode structure, and gate electrode structure manufacturing method

A flat display includes a front glass plate, substrate, cathode, gate electrode, a phosphor screen and metal-backed film, and matrix-like spacer. The front glass plate is at least partly transparent. The substrate is arranged to oppose the front glass plate through a vacuum space. The cathode is formed on the substrate and has an electron-emitting source made of nano tube fibers. The gate electrode has an electron-passing hole in a direction perpendicular to the substrate and is arranged in the vacuum space away from the cathode to oppose the substrate. The phosphor screen and metal-backed film are sequentially stacked on a surface of the front glass plate which opposes the substrate. The matrix-like spacer is stacked between the gate electrode and front glass plate and has a plurality of openings each corresponding to the electron-passing hole.

Flat display

A flat panel display includes a vacuum envelope, a cathode, a gate electrode substrate, and a phosphor screen and anode electrode. The vacuum envelope includes a front glass plate which is at least partly transparent and a substrate opposing the front glass plate. The cathode is formed on the substrate and has an electron-emitting source. The gate electrode substrate has an electron-passing hole and is arranged in the vacuum envelope to oppose the substrate to be separate from the cathode. The phosphor screen and anode electrode are formed on a surface of the front glass plate in the vacuum envelope. The gate electrode substrate includes at least an insulating substrate and a gate electrode. The insulating substrate has the electron-passing hole. The gate electrode is formed on the insulating substrate. A method of manufacturing a flat panel display is also disclosed.

Flat panel display and method of manufacturing the same

A flat-panel display includes a front glass, glass substrate, cathodes, gate electrodes, phosphor films, and anodes. The front glass has translucency at least partly. The substrate is placed to oppose the front glass through a vacuum space. The cathodes are formed on the substrate. The gate electrodes are placed in the vacuum space and spaced apart from the cathodes. The phosphor layers and anodes are formed on a surface of the front glass which opposes the substrate. Each cathode includes a metal member having many opening portions which is mounted on the substrate, and a conductive material containing carbon nanotubes filled in the mesh-like opening portions. A method of manufacturing a flat-panel display is also disclosed.

A vacuum fluorescent display includes a front glass member, substrate, phosphor film, an electron-emitting portion, electron extracting electrode, and insulating support member. The front glass member has light transmission properties at least partly. The substrate opposes the front glass member through a vacuum space. The phosphor film is formed on that surface of the front glass member which opposes the substrate and has a predetermined display pattern. The electron-emitting portion is mounted on the substrate to oppose the phosphor film, and has an electron-emitting surface corresponding to the display pattern. The electron extracting electrode is arranged in the vacuum space between the electron-emitting portion and the phosphor film to be spaced apart from the electron-emitting portion by a predetermined distance. The insulating support member is formed on the substrate and adapted to support the electron extracting electrode and divide the electron-emitting surface of the electron-emitting portion into a plurality of regions.

Disclosed is an electrode for an electron source, a method for producing the same, and an electronic tube using the same which provide a decreased thickness of an electron emitting source, and an improved current distribution percentage. The electronic tube comprises a substrate, an electron emitting source area formed on the substrate, and a shield area around the electron emitting area. The shield area is formed of a material that does not produce an electron emitting source, when the electron emitting source is produced by a dry method. As a result, if a space between an electron drawing electrode and the electrode for the electron source is narrow, the percentage of anode current increases in the total current, thereby improving the current distribution percentage.

Electrode for electron source, method for producing the same, and electronic tube using the same

A vacuum fluorescent display includes a cathode electrode, grid electrode, anode electrode, at least one envelope, phosphor screen, and cap. The cathode electrode emits electrons. The grid electrode extracts the electrons from the cathode electrode. The anode electrode accelerates the electrons extracted from the cathode electrode. The envelope accommodates the cathode electrode, grid electrode, and anode electrode in a vacuum space and has a phosphor screen plate having light transmission properties. The phosphor screen is formed on an inner surface of the phosphor screen plate of the envelope and adapted to emit light upon bombardment of the electrons accelerated by the anode electrode. The cap is made of an X-ray shielding material and supported outside the envelope so as to surround the phosphor screen plate of the envelope through a gap. The cap has a light exit portion from which the light emitted from the phosphor screen emerges through the phosphor screen plate of the envelope.

A flat display includes a glass substrate, field emission type electron-emitting source, a front glass member, an electron extracting electrode, and a phosphor film. The electron-emitting source is mounted on the substrate. The front glass member opposes the substrate through a vacuum space and has light transmittance at least partially. The electron extracting electrode has an electron passing hole and is set away from the electron-emitting source to oppose the substrate. The phosphor film is formed on that surface of the front glass member which opposes the substrate. The electron-emitting source includes a plate-like metal member and a coating film. The plate-like metal member has a large number of through holes and serves as a growth nucleus for nanotube fibers. The coating film is formed of nanotubes that cover a surface of the metal member and inner walls of the through holes. A method of mounting a field emission type electron-emitting source is also disclosed.

An electron-emitting source includes a substrate and a coating film. The substrate is made of a material containing a metal serving as a growth nucleus for nanotube fibers as a main component, and has a plurality of through holes. The coating film is constituted by nanotube fibers formed on a surface of the substrate and wall surfaces of the through holes. A method of manufacturing an electron-emitting source is also disclosed.

A vacuum fluorescent display includes a front glass member, substrate, control electrode, plate-like field emission type electron-emitting source, mesh-like electron extracting electrode, and phosphor film. The control electrode is formed on an inner surface of the substrate. The plate-like field emission type electron-emitting source with a plurality of through holes is arranged in the vacuum space to be spaced apart from the control electrode. The mesh-like electron extracting electrode is formed between the field emission type electron-emitting source and the front glass member to be spaced apart from the field emission type electron-emitting source. The phosphor film is formed inside the front glass member.

An electron-emitting source of this invention includes at least a carbon nanotube formed from a columnar graphite layer. Electron are emitted from the tip of the carbon nanotube.
