A black and white photographic material is disclosed. The material contains a black image-forming coupler shown by formula (I) or (II) ##STR1## wherein R represents ##STR2## Y.sub.1 represents a group which prevents the coupler from diffusing away from the layer containing it. Examples of such groups include an aliphatic group, an aryl group, an aralkyl group, or a heterocyclic group. X.sub.1 and X.sub.2 each represents a hydrogen atom or a coupling-off group capable of being released upon oxidative coupling reaction with a developing agent. The material is capable of producing an excellent black image by development after image exposure. In the photographic material, the amount of silver can be effectively reduced and the photographic material give black images even after bleaching the black image formed.

Black and white photographic materials

A process for forming photographic images comprising a silver image and a dye image, comprising development processing an imagewise exposed silver halide photographic light-sensitive material containing a 4-alkoxy-1-naphthol represented by the formula (I) ##STR1## wherein R represents an alkyl group, an alkoxyalkyl group, or a hydroxyalkyl group, and the number of carbon atoms in the substituent represented by R is from 1 to 4. The process of this invention is particularly useful in the field of X-ray photography, in order to provide an image of increased density for a given silver content. A novel silver halide photographic light-sensitive material includes the above 4-alkoxy-1-naphthol in a photographic colloid layer thereof, preferably the silver halide emulsion layer.

Process for forming photographic images and photographic light-sensitive

A method is described for forming a black-and-white photographic image consisting essentially of a silver image and a coextensive dye image, in which the maximum density of the image and the fastness of the image to light are greatly improved, by processing a silver halide photosensitive material which contains silver halide in a reduced amount (compared with conventional materials) that has been imagewise exposed to light in the presence of a naphthalene compound containing at least two hydroxy substituents groups on the nucleus thereof and a p-phenylenediamine type developing agent or a precursor of the p-phenylenediamine compound.

Method of forming a photographic image

A color photographic process is described for a silver halide photographic material having at least a silver halide emulsion layer containing a dye-forming coupler, comprising developing in a color developer solution containing components (1) an aromatic primary amino color developing agent, (2) a 1-aryl-3-pyrazolidone compound having two substituents at the 4-position, and (3) at least one compound selected from compounds represented by formulae (I) and (II): ##STR1## wherein X represents a hydrocarbon group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms; R represents a carboxylic acid group, a water-soluble carboxylic acid salt group, a water-soluble carboxylic acid ester group, or a water-soluble carboxylic acid amide group; m is 1 or 2; and n is 0 or 1; and then fixing by an acid hardening fix solution.

Color photographic process

A process for forming photographic images comprising a silver image and a dye image, which comprises development processing an imagewise exposed silver halide photographic light-sensitive material in the presence of a carboxy- and sulfo-free naphthalene compound wherein at least two hydrogen atoms in the naphthalene nucleus are substituted at specific positions thereof as indicated in formula (I) below, and a 3-pyrazolidone compound.

Process for forming photographic images

A color photographic light-sensitive material comprising a support having thereon at least one silver halide emulsion layer, a non-diffusible color coupler present in at least one layer on the support and a layer containing at least one compound represented by the following general formula (I) ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents an alkyl group, a hydroxyalkyl group, an alkoxyalkyl group or an alkylsulfonamidoalkyl group; R.sub.2 represents an alkyl group, a hydroxyalkyl group, an alkoxyalkyl group or an alkylsulfonamidoalkyl group, R.sub.3 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group or an alkoxyalkyl group, and R.sub.4 and R.sub.5, which may be the same or different, each represents a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a carboxyl group, a sulfo group, a nitro group, a carboxylic acid ester group, an alkyl group or an alkoxyalkyl group.

Color photographic light-sensitive material containing development

A color photographic process which comprises processing silver halide color photographic materials using a color developer containing a 2-alkyne-1-ol represented by the general formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 each represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, a hydroxyalkyl group, an aminoalkyl group, a carboxyalkyl group, or a formylalkyl group, and R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 may be the same or different. By using the above compound in a color photographic process, the speed of color development can be effectively promoted without increasing fog, and, further, the stability of the color developer is improved.

A process for stabilizing a color developing solution which comprises adding one or more hydroxamic acid compounds represented by the following formula to the color developing solution: ##STR1## wherein X represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, an unsubstituted or substituted aryl group having 6 to 10 carbon atoms, an amino group, an alkylamino group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms or an arylamino group.
