Novel phenylserine derivatives of the formula: ##STR1## and pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof, pharmaceutical compositions, and a process for preparing the compounds are disclosed. The phenylserine derivatives and pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts are capable of inhibiting the biosynthesis of leucotrienes and/or antagonistic activity against SRS-A and hence are useful for prophylaxis and treatment of various allergic diseases (e.g. bronchial asthma, allergic nasitis, urticaria), ischemic heart diseases, ischemic encephalopathy, inflammation, or the like.

Phenylserine derivatives and processes for preparing the same

Diuretics containing an efficient amount of L- or DL-threo-3-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-serine or a pharmaceutical acceptable salt thereof are applied orally or parenterally. They are effected particularly to anasarca patients. They will also be effective to myxedema, Addison's disease and other ADH-excessive syndrome patients. They are applied in the form of tablet, capsules, syrup, suspension or liquid.

Said compounds have strong anti-ulcerogenic activity and are useful in treatment of gastraintestinal ulcer.

Conjugated ketone compounds in preventing platelet thrombosis

This invention relates to a process for the optical resolution of DL-.alpha.-methyl-.beta.-acylthiopropionic acids of the formula [I], ##STR1## wherein R is a lower alkyl group having 1-4 carbon atoms, phenyl or substituted phenyl bearing methyl or chloro radical; a method for the racemization of an optically active .alpha.-methyl-.beta.-acylthiopropionic acid of the formula [Ia], ##STR2## wherein R is as defined above; and a process for the synthesis of captopril of the formula [II], ##STR3## using the D-acid [Ia] as an intermediate.

Racemization of an .alpha.-methyl-.beta.-acylthiopropionic acid

A novel bicyclooctane derivative represented by the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is hydrogen or C.sub.1-4 alkyl, X is ethylene or vinylene, and Y.sub.1 and Y.sub.2 are independently hydrogen or a hydroxyl-protecting group, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt of said compound in which R.sub.1 is hydrogen. Said compound and pharmaceutically acceptable salt are chemically stable, have platelet anti-aggregation activity without undesirable pharmacological actions and exhibit the duration of high biological activity.

A compound of the formula, ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl group and R.sup.2 is aryl group, which is a medicine useful to treat cerebral arteriosclerosis, senile mental indolence and cerebral insufficiency.

Novel polycyclic indole derivatives
