Anti-microbial articles

Siloxane-based gel adhesives with improved shear holding power are prepared from curable compositions. The curable compositions include a siloxane fluid with a viscosity of at least 1,000,000 centiPoise, a siloxane-(meth)acrylate co-polymer, and siloxane tackifying resin. The curable compositions can contain an initiator or can be cured by e-beam radiation without an initiator. The siloxane-(meth)acrylate copolymer is the reaction product of a reaction mixture of an ethylenically unsaturated siloxane-containing macromer, an alkyl (meth)acrylate monomer; optionally a reinforcing monomer, and an initiator.

Siloxane-based gel adhesives and articles

Phase separated articles that include a matrix phase including an acrylate copolymer; and a silicone elastomer phase stably dispersed in the matrix phase are described. The matrix phase may be derived from precursors comprising from 60 to 95 parts by weight of an alkyl acrylate having an alkyl group having 1 to 14 carbon atoms. An adhesive article comprising a poly(meth)acrylate-based primer layer and methods of making same. The article can include a backing, a primer layer located on a first major surface of the backing, and a silicone-based adhesive located on the primer layer. The primer layer can be derived from a primer precursor comprising poly(meth)acrylate functionalities. The method can include applying a primer precursor onto a first major surface of a backing, the primer precursor comprising a compound comprising poly(meth)acrylate functionalities; irradiating the primer precursor; applying an adhesive on the irradiated primer precursor; and irradiating the adhesive and the irradiated primer precursor to form a primer layer located between the adhesive and the first major surface of the backing.

An article having anti-microbial effect is provided. The article includes an occlusive layer; a substrate overlaying the occlusive layer, wherein the substrate having two opposing major surfaces; a metal oxide layer overlaying the substrate, wherein the metal oxide layer comprises a metal oxide and wherein the metal oxide layer comprises less than 40 wt. % non-oxidized metal; and a metal layer overlaying the metal oxide layer.

Adhesive articles suitable for use in medical applications include a siloxane-based pressure sensitive adhesive layer, and a breathable conformable backing having a first surface and a second surface. The siloxane-based pressure sensitive adhesive layer is coated on the first surface of the breathable conformable backing, and the second surface of the breathable conformable backing comprises a treated surface. The siloxane-based pressure sensitive adhesive layer can be attached to skin and other adhesive articles can be releasably adhered to the treated surface to form adhesive constructions.

Silicone-polyether copolymers, adhesives and medical articles comprising same, and methods of making same. The silicone-polyether copolymer composition can include a backbone composition having a first (silicone) segment and a second (polyether) segment connected randomly via at least one of an oxamide linkage and a urea linkage. The method of making the silicone-polyether copolymer composition can include combining: a) a first (silicone) precursor; b) a second (polyether) precursor; and c) at least one of a diisocyanate and an oxalate compound.

Siloxane-based gel compositions are prepared from room temperature condensation curable mixtures that include 0.5-45% by weight silicone resin with at least two hydroxyl groups, 99.5-55% by weight of at least one silanol-terminated siloxane fluid, and a co-curable compound with an amino group. The siloxane-based gel compositions can be used as adhesives or sealants in medical articles.

The disclosed hydrophobic adhesive composition comprises a hydrophobic adhesive matrix and water absorbent fibers dispersed throughout the adhesive matrix to provide water management capabilities to the adhesive composition. The disclosed adhesive composition can adhered to a variety of surfaces, such as skin, and will easily remove from the surface. Therefore, the disclosed adhesive is particularly well suitable for application to skin wherein the absorbent fiber can absorb perspiration, water, or wound fluid from skin.

The present invention is directed to new methods of determining elongation, tension and applied pressure of elastic bandages comprising tension indicators. In one embodiment, a computer-implemented method of detecting elongation of an elastic bandage (e.g. on a mobile computing device having a processor and graphical user interface) is described. The method comprises receiving image data that includes a digital photograph of an elongated tension indicator of an elastic bandage; analyzing the image data to determine elongation of the elastic bandage by comparing geometric features of the elongated tension indicator to model geometric features that define a predetermined elongation state (such as an unelongated state); and providing output indicia associated with the determined elongation. Also described are various articles, some of which are intermediate articles of the methods described herein. Such articles include non-transient computer readable medium, a three-dimensional member comprising at least one layer of certain elastic bandages. In one embodiment, the elastic bandage comprises a tension indicator and a computer readable code.
