A telephone system having a message recording function includes a message receiving system that is connectable to a calling station to the telephone system through a telephone line and receives a message transmitted from the calling station through the telephone line, a message storage in which the message received by the message receiving system is stored, a message reproducing system that retrieves and outputs a message stored in the message storage. With this configuration, the message reproducing system reproduces the message with the telephone line being in the off-hook state.

Telephone system having message recording function

In a versatile communication device having a telephone function and a facsimile function, an erroneous detection of an on-hold melody as a control signal, such as a calling tone (CNG) signal, is prevented when the on-hold melody is played during an on-hold period of the telephone, thereby preventing the device from mistakenly switching connection to the facsimile function during the on-hold period. Further, the on-hold melody containing a signal component of the CNG signal or other control signal is prevented from sending to the remote device, so the remote device provided with a facsimile function does not switch to a facsimile mode during the on-hold status of the voice communication.

Information transmission device

A communication apparatus that is capable of switching to an external caller apparatus if a ringing signal from the external caller apparatus is received during a telephone communication with another external apparatus. The communication apparatus has a handset and a display panel provided in the handset. A caller information display control device causes caller information regarding the external caller apparatus to be displayed on the display panel if a ringing signal is received from the external caller apparatus during a telephone conversation with the other external apparatus. The communication apparatus further includes an input/output level control device that changes the input and output levels of the handset if the caller information is displayed on the display panel during the telephone conversation.

When CPU of a communication apparatus judges that a telephone line is not closed-and-connected and also judges that a transmission original is set, CPU performs processing of setting a transmission concentration. If it judges that no transmission original is set, the volume of a ringing sound is set. Further, when CPU judges that the telephone line is connected and closed and also judges that a telephone receiver is not on hook, it performs processing of setting a receiver volume. If it judges that the telephone receiver is on hook, it sets the volume of voices of a communication partner which are output from a speaker.

A telephone apparatus is disclosed wherein the use of the call-waiting service is provided while a dedicated call-waiting operating portion is not required. When there is a call from a third party's telephone apparatus to a first party while the first party is conducting a telephone conversation with a second party, a call-waiting unit switches the first party's line connection from the second party's telephone apparatus to the third party's telephone apparatus. A call-waiting operating portion or button is used to instruct the call-waiting unit to switch the line connection. The call-waiting operating portion is structured so that the operating portion can also be used as an operating portion that has a function other than the call-waiting function. When the call-waiting button is depressed, a CPU determines whether the line is connected and then whether the telephone apparatus is in a dialing or communication mode. Only in a case where the apparatus is in a dialing or communication mode, does the call-waiting button function. In the other cases, the CPU causes the call-waiting button to function as a function button that is normally not used during telephone conversation. For example, the call-waiting button may function as an abbreviated-dialing button, thereby reducing the number of required buttons or component parts, and thus, reduce production costs.

An electronic apparatus having a ROM disposed in a data processing apparatus, and a writeable and nonvolatile memory device storing an operation setting value of the ROM is provided. When powered on, the apparatus determines whether the ROM has been changed or replaced. If it is determined that the ROM has been changed, the apparatus writes the initial values of the ROM into the memory device. Thereby, the device eliminates the need for a person to perform the rewriting operation on the writeable and nonvolatile memory device even when the ROM has been replaced.

In a versatile telephone unit subjected to a caller's telephone number reception service wherein at least a caller's telephone number is transmitted to a telephone unit prom a switchboard via a telephone line, the telephone unit has a caller's telephone number displaying feature allowing the user to know who telephoned while the user is absent or away from the telephone. When a call signal from a remote telephone is detected a predetermined number of times, the caller's telephone number transmitted with the call signal from the switchboard is stored in a memory. When the telephone is in an automatic answering mode, the caller's telephone number is stored in the memory along with incoming message. The caller's telephone number stored in the memory can be displayed on a display while reproducing the incoming message if any. A determination of whether an incoming message contains voice is performed and if no voice is determined to be recorded then the incoming message is erased from memory and the device indicates the associated telephone number has no voice recording.
