An image forming apparatus includes an image forming unit, a first rotary member, a second rotary member, a web, a feed roller, a winding roller, a contact member, a detection unit, and a control unit. In a state where the apparatus is turned from a first power-ON state to a second power-ON state through a power-OFF state after the contact member reached a notch, if a difference between a diameter of a web at an end of the first power-ON state and the diameter of the web at a start of the second power-ON state is equal to or greater than a predetermined value, the control unit controls the image forming unit not to form a toner image. In the state after the contact member reached the notch, if the difference is smaller than the predetermined value, the control unit permits the image forming unit to form a toner image.

Image forming apparatus

An image forming apparatus includes a heating rotary member and a pressing rotary member. The pressing rotary member and the heating rotary member form a fixing nip portion and are configured to apply heat and pressure to a toner image carried on a recording medium at the fixing nip portion, thereby fix the toner image onto the recording medium. The image forming apparatus further includes a winding roller configured to wind up a web used to collect toner that is not fixed to the recording medium, a motor configured to rotate the winding roller, a contact member configured to contact an outside surface of the web wound around the winding roller, a variable resistor disposed so as to be able to change a resistance in accordance with a position of the contact member, and a control unit configured to control an amount of rotation of the motor.

Abnormality detection of web unit in image forming apparatus

Provided is an image forming apparatus configured to form an image on a sheet. A case binding apparatus is configured to cut predetermined sides of a sheet bundle formed by binding a plurality of sheets to perform bookbinding. The case binding apparatus includes a cutting-waste box configured to collect cutting waste produced by the cutting and a cutting-waste full load detection sensor configured to detect a fully loaded state of the cutting-waste box with the cutting waste collected in the cutting-waste box. When the sheet onto which the image is to be formed is not a last sheet in the sheet bundle, the image forming apparatus does not interrupt image formation processing in response to the fully loaded state of the waste box detected by the detector when an order of the sheet in the sheet bundle is smaller than a predetermined order.

An image forming apparatus is capable of easily performing jam processing. When an occurrence of a jam of a sheet which is conveyed on a conveying path is detected, the image forming apparatus displays a jam processing display screen which guides processing in accordance with a position where the jam has occurred. After the processing in accordance with the jam processing display screen is performed, if a state of the jam remains unchanged, the image forming apparatus performs forced feeding, which forcibly conveys the sheet to a predetermined position. The image forming apparatus displays the jam processing display screen urging to perform processing in accordance with the position of the sheet after the sheet is forcibly conveyed.

An image forming apparatus () is capable of continuing, when detecting running out of sheet in a cassette () during image formation, the image formation by performing switching to another cassette (). When it is determined that sheets are run out based on a signal supplied from a sheet sensor () of a cassette being used after exposure is started based on image data of a certain page, cleaning is performed on a secondary transfer roller () and exposure is started based on the image data of a target page before the cleaning is terminated.

A controller of an image forming apparatus calculates a density difference between a measurement result of a toner image having the highest density formed on a photosensitive drum, which is obtained by an image density sensor, and the highest density of a density target. When the density difference falls within a predetermined range, the controller generates a tone correction table based on a density value of a first toner image formed with a plurality of densities including the highest density, and sets, based on the density difference, an exposure amount of laser light to be applied to the photosensitive drum by an exposure device. When the density difference falls out of the predetermined range, the controller generates the tone correction table based on a density value of a second toner image having a larger number of tone levels than that of the first toner image.

An image forming apparatus capable of preventing a sheet from falling during jam handling without adding a special mechanism. The apparatus has an openable door forming a guide wall of a first path in a closed state. A first pair of rollers are disposed on the first path for nipping and conveying a sheet in a door closed state, and separated from each other when the door is opened. A second path is connected to the first path, for conveying downstream a sheet from the first path. A second pair of rollers disposed on the second path can keep nipping a sheet even when the door is opened. If a jam occurs, a sheet remaining in the first path is conveyed into the second path using the first roller pair, and is nipped by the second roller pair.
