An airbag device for motor vehicle, includes: an inflator arranged in an instrument panel in front of a front passenger seat and is capable of ejecting gas; a first airbag connected to the inflator at a base end side thereof and has a gas inflow hole through which gas can be flowed, the first airbag being for the front passenger seat; and a second airbag arranged on the first airbag at a side face portion close to a center in the vehicle width direction, the second airbag being adapted to communicate with the first airbag through first and second communication portions. The first communication portion is arranged proximal to the inflator than the second communication portion arranged proximal to the occupant side end. The first communication portion and the second airbag are communicated via a communication passageway, and the second communication portion and the second airbag are communicated directly.

Airbag device for motor vehicle

A light-weight and inexpensively-manufacturable case member of an airbag device is provided. The case member includes an inner portion integrally formed with an edge portion of an opening portion of a housing portion configured to internally hold a folded airbag and an inflator. A lid is fixed to a housing portion at a position where the lid at least partially covers the airbag housed in the housing portion. The opening portion is covered by an outer portion. Thus, a light-weight case member in which the inflator and the folded airbag are housed in the housing portion and covered by the lid can be manufactured inexpensively, without integration of a separately provided housing portion and lid or fixing the airbag or the inflator using an additional component.

A vent hole communicating with an air chamber is opened in an airbag main body. A cover is disposed outside the air chamber of the airbag main body with respect to the vent hole. One end of the tether is connected to the cover via the vent hole, and the other end is connected to the airbag main body. If the tether is not pulled by the airbag main body, the vent hole is reliably opened to discharge gas to the outside. If the tether is pulled by the deployed airbag main body, the cover is partially drawn into the vent hole so that the cover is ensured to be in tight contact with the edge of the vent hole so as to reliably seal the vent hole.

The air bagincludes an airbag bodyhaving an inside foundation clothand an outside foundation cloth, and a pair of inner-clothsarranged in the airbag body. The inside inner-clothis joined to the outside inner-cloththrough two inner junctionsseparated from each other in a fore-and-aft direction of the vehicle. The inner-clothshave front ends, rear ends and intermediate portions between the inner junctions, all of which are joined to the foundation clothsthrough overlapping junctions. In arrangement, the overlapping junctionsof the inside inner-clothare shifted from the overlapping junctionsof the outside inner-clothforwardly. Consequently, triple-layer tubular expansion chambersare defined in the airbag body, allowing a passenger's head to be received certainly.
