Provided is a display device including an imaging unit that captures a moving image in a predetermined range in an image display direction, a moving body detection unit that detects whether or not a moving body is present in a predetermined range in the image display direction, an image analysis unit that analyzes the moving image captured by the imaging unit to detect whether or not a face is present, and a power control unit that controls power consumption with different patterns according to a plurality of modes that are set by combining whether or not the face detected by the image analysis unit is present and whether or not the moving body detected by the detection unit is present.

A system for processing images, or clips, as, for example, in a movie or video post production system. The clips are associated with a flowgraph representation that visually depicts all of the operations used to generate the clips. Correspondence between the image and flowgraph representations is tightly maintained so that the user can conveniently switch between, and work among, the different representations. Efficient user interface mechanisms are provided to work with flowgraph items to construct nodes representing operations. Nodes can be joined in an automated, or assisted, manner. Flowgraphs can be automatically generated according to user inputs in other parts of the system. For example, layered effects can have flowgraphs that are automatically generated. To capture digital moving image information supplied from a digital VTR and to generate high quality still image data files, a programmable controller executes program instructions to determine whether an image capturing operation has been activated and to determine whether the extracted frame is valid/appropriate. If so, a header is appended, based on various video transmission standards such as NTSC or PAL, to the extracted frame data, thereby generating an image file. The frame data following this header is then recorded to the recording medium, such as a disk, for subsequent signal processing by the programmable controller.

Apparatus and method for generating digital still image files from digital moving images

To display an image based on image file data generated from moving images, the number of pixels is changed in the horizontal or vertical direction of a display screen by a signal processing operation. Various television broadcast standards and display modes are supported. For example, in the NTSC system, a signal processing operation subjects frame data (720 by 480 pixels) to 8:9 pixel count conversion for converting the number of pixels in the horizontal direction from 720 to 640. An image based on the image file data (i.e., still picture) is therefore displayed on the computer screen with the correct aspect ratio.

An apparatus and method for processing moving image data so as to obtain stationary image data representative of a desired image frame which is suitable for display on a display device. A moving portion of the image data corresponding to the desired image frame is detected and the image data corresponding to the detected moving portion is interpolated in accordance with a predetermined interpolation technique. A stationary image corresponding to the interpolated image data may be displayed on the display device with relatively high quality. The motion detection and field interpolation processing may eliminate or reduce stripes or the like which may otherwise be present in the displayed stationary image due to a deviation of the image data between the fields of the respective frame. Coefficients utilized for the motion detecting processing may be taken from previously stored values or may be set by an operator.

A method and apparatus for controlling an audio video (AV) system having a number of AV devices so as to cause power to be turned off to the AV devices upon the occurrence of predetermined events. That is, power for the AV devices may be turned off: (i) when a video signal is no longer being transmitted between selected AV devices, (ii) when a recording medium of one of a recording AV device and a reproducing AV device that perform a dubbing operation is at its end position, and (iii) when a predetermined time has elapsed.
