Drag braking force measuring mechanism in a double bearing fishing reel

A speed change apparatus for a fishing reel is provided with an input shaft having a first sun gear, a second sun gear different therefrom in the number of teeth, and a differential gear having smaller diameter toothed portion and a larger diameter toothed portion different in the number of teeth from each other and engageable with the first and second sun gears, respectively. The differential gear is rotatably supported to a reel body. The smaller diameter toothed portion is separated from the larger diameter toothed portion so that one or both of the toothed portions is made freely rotatable. And a clutch for integrally connecting or disconnecting both the smaller diameter toothed portion and larger diameter toothed portion is provided. Thus, a first transmission system for transmitting a driving force from the input shaft to an output shaft and a second transmission system for disconnecting both the toothed portions for transmitting the driving force of the input shaft to the output shaft through direct connection are made selectable by manual operation.

The mechanism prevents reverse rotation of the spool through engagement between the anti-reverse teeth and the stopper claw. The fishing reel is characterized by a stopper-claw control member attached to a rotary member opposing to the spool braking plate to be rotatable within a predetermined angular range. The control member has a control portion engageable with the stopper claw for controlling engagement and disengagement of the stopper claw.

A spinning reel is provided with a drag mechanism which includes an adjuster and a braking force measuring mechanism for measuring the braking force set by the drag mechanism. The reel also includes a reference position setting mechanism which specifies the position of the adjuster corresponding to the reference position at which an optimum force set by the drag mechanism is obtained.

Control device for a drag mechanism in a spinning type fishing reel

A fishing reel comprises: a rotary frame driven by a drive mechanism; a spool supported to the front of a spool shaft; a drag mechanism provided at the rear of the spool shaft for applying a load on rotation of the spool shaft, the rotary frame rotating to wind a fishing line onto the spool, the spool being supported rotatably with respect to the spool shaft; and a slide mechanism which is provided between the spool and the spool shaft for holding the spool to the spool shaft under a load slightly smaller than the maximum load corresponding to a strength of the line wound onto the spool, so that when the line is subjected to a load greater than the spool holding load, the spool freely rotates with respect to the spool shaft.
