The control apparatus for a compression ignition type engine includes a plurality of cylinder inner pressure sensors that detect pressure in each cylinder, and a combustion control unit. The combustion control unit corrects a target fuel injection amount of each cylinder by an injector based on a deviation between a predicted combustion period that is a period from an ignition timing by an ignition plug to a predetermined mass combustion timing and that is obtained based on a preset combustion model, and an actual combustion period that is a period from the ignition timing by the ignition plug to an actual combustion timing and that is obtained based on cylinder inner pressure, such that the period from the ignition timing by the ignition plug to the predetermined mass combustion timing, which is the timing when fuel having a predetermined mass ratio combusts, is equalized in each cylinder.

Control apparatus and control method for compression ignition type engine

A combustion control device for an engine includes a plurality of cylinders, a surge tank disposed in an intake path to the cylinders, an independent intake passage connecting the surge tank and an intake port of each of the cylinders, a fuel injection valve that is disposed for each of the cylinders and that supplies fuel into each of the cylinders, and a control unit that controls a fuel injection amount of each of the fuel injection valves according to an engine operating state. The control unit corrects a target fuel injection amount of each of the cylinders, the target fuel injection amount being determined according to the engine operating state, based on a re-intake correction amount set in each of the cylinders according to a re-intake amount of intake air from the intake port in internal EGR in each of the cylinders.

Combustion control device for engine

A control device for an engine is provided, which includes a combustion controlling module, and an ignition retard determining module configured to determine whether there is a request for an ignition retard for retarding an ignition timing of an ignition plug. When the controlling module controls the ignition plug and an injector so that the SPCCI combustion is performed and there is not the ignition retard request, the controlling module executes a control in which the entire fuel to be injected in one cycle is injected in an intake stroke and a jump-spark ignition is carried out at a basic ignition timing, and when there is the ignition retard request, the controlling module executes a control in which an injection is performed in an intake stroke, a portion of the entire fuel is injected in a compression stroke, and the ignition timing is retarded from the basic ignition timing.

Engine control device

A control device of a compression-ignition engine is provided. The device includes an engine having a cylinder, a fuel injection valve for injecting a fuel, an exhaust valve mechanism for switching an operation mode of an exhaust valve between a normal mode and an open-twice mode, a throttle valve disposed on an intake passage, and a controller for operating the engine by compression-ignition combustion of mixture gas inside the cylinder at least within a low engine load range. The controller suspends the fuel injection by the fuel injection valve when a predetermined fuel cut condition is met while the engine decelerates, and the controller fully closes the throttle valve and controls the exhaust valve mechanism to operate in the open-twice mode during the fuel cut. When a predetermined fuel resuming condition is met, the controller restarts the fuel injection, opens the throttle valve, and causes the compression-ignition combustion.

Control device of compression-ignition engine

A spark-ignition direct injection engine is provided. The engine includes an engine body, a fuel injection valve, a fuel pressure setting mechanism, an ignition plug, and a controller. The controller switches between a compression-ignition mode where the engine body is operated to perform compression-ignition combustion and a spark-ignition mode where the engine body is operated to perform spark-ignition combustion. Immediately after switching from the spark-ignition mode to the compression-ignition mode, the controller operates the engine body in a compression-ignition initial mode where the fuel pressure is set to be 30 MPa or above and the fuel injection valve is controlled to perform the fuel injection in a period from a late stage of the compression stroke to an early stage of the expansion stroke so that the gas mixture self-ignites to combust.

Spark-ignition direct injection engine

A control device of a spark-ignition engine is provided. The control device includes a main body of the engine, a fuel injection valve, an ignition plug, and a controller. According to an operating state of the engine, the controller switches an ignition mode between a compression-ignition mode in which compression-ignition combustion is performed by causing the mixture gas to self-ignite and combust, and a spark-ignition mode in which spark-ignition combustion is performed by igniting the mixture gas with the ignition plug to combust. The controller switches the ignition mode from the spark-ignition mode to the compression-ignition mode by performing a transition mode in which a temperature inside the cylinder is forcibly decreased and combustion is performed.

Control device of spark-ignition engine

A spark-ignition direct injection engine is provided. The engine includes an engine body having a cylinder, intake and exhaust valves for opening and closing intake and exhaust ports that open to the cylinder, respectively, a fuel injection valve for injecting fuel into the cylinder, a catalyst in an exhaust passage, and a controller for operating the engine body by controlling the intake and exhaust valves and the fuel injection valve. The controller performs a fuel cut by suspending the fuel injection during engine deceleration in a non-operated accelerator state, and when the engine speed drops to a predetermined speed, the controller resumes the fuel injection. During the fuel cut, the controller opens the exhaust valve on an intake stroke and then opens the intake valve, and after closing the exhaust valve and when mixture gas is blown back to the intake port, the controller closes the intake valve.

A control device of a spark-ignition engine is provided. The control device includes a main body of the engine, a fuel injection valve, an ignition plug, and a controller. According to an engine operating state, the controller switches between a compression-ignition mode in which compression-ignition combustion is performed, and a spark-ignition mode in which spark-ignition combustion is performed. The controller switches from the spark-ignition mode to the compression-ignition mode by performing in order, a first stage where an air-fuel ratio of mixture gas is set to a predetermined value and the spark-ignition combustion is performed, a second stage where the air-fuel ratio of the mixture gas is set leaner than the first stage and the compression-ignition combustion is performed, and a third stage where the air-fuel ratio of the mixture gas is set richer than the second stage and the compression-ignition combustion is performed.

A control device of a compression-ignition engine is provided. The control device includes the engine having a cylinder, an exhaust gas recirculation system for introducing exhaust gas into the cylinder, and a controller for operating the engine by compression-ignition combustion of mixture gas inside the cylinder within a predetermined compression-ignitable range on a low engine load side. Within the compression-ignitable range, the controller sets an EGR ratio higher as the engine load becomes lower, and the controller sets the EGR ratio to a predetermined highest EGR ratio when the engine load is at a specific load that is on the low engine load side within the compression-ignitable range. When the engine load is lower than the specific load, the controller sets the EGR ratio to be lower than the highest EGR ratio.

A controller performs switching between a compression ignition mode in which compression ignition combustion is performed to operate an engine body, and a spark ignition mode in which spark ignition combustion is performed to drive a spark plug to ignite and combust an air-fuel mixture in a cylinder. The controller reduces an EGR ratio to be lower than an EGR ratio set in the compression ignition mode to operate the engine body in a transitional mode in which the compression ignition combustion is performed in switching from the spark ignition mode to the compression ignition mode.

Spark ignition engine

A start control device of a compression self-ignition engine is provided. The device includes: a determining module for determining whether a piston of a compression-stroke-in-stop cylinder that is stopped on a compression stroke according to an automatic stop is within a specific range set on a bottom dead center side of a predetermined reference stop position; an injection control module for controlling each fuel injection valve to inject fuel into the compression-stroke-in-stop cylinder first after the piston of the compression-stroke-in-stop cylinder is determined to be stopped within the specific range and the engine restart condition is satisfied; and an in-cylinder pressure estimating module for estimating an in-cylinder pressure of the compression-stroke-in-stop cylinder at a first top dead center on the compression stroke in the restart, where the piston of the compression-stroke-in-stop cylinder reaches after the restart starts.

Start control device of compression self-ignition engine

A start control device includes a compression self-ignition engine, fuel injection valve, piston stop position detector, starter motor, and controller for stopping the engine when an automatic stop condition is satisfied, and thereafter, when a restart condition is satisfied and a compression-stroke-in-stop cylinder piston stop position is within a stop position range on a bottom dead center side, restarting the engine by injecting fuel into the compression-stroke-in-stop cylinder while applying torque to the engine. In restarting the engine, when the restart condition is not based on driver request, when the compression-stroke-in-stop cylinder piston stop position is within the stop position range, the controller restarts the engine, injecting fuel into an intake-stroke-in-stop cylinder on an intake stroke, when the cylinder reaches the compression stroke. When the restart condition is based on driver request, the controller restarts the engine, injecting fuel into the compression-stroke-in-stop cylinder.

Device and method for controlling start of compression self-ignition engine

A start control device includes a compression self-ignition engine, fuel injectors, a piston stop position detector, a starter motor and a controller for automatically stopping the engine when a predetermined automatic stop condition is satisfied, and thereafter, when a predetermined restart condition is satisfied and a compression-stroke-in-stop cylinder piston stop position is within a reference stop position range set relatively on a bottom dead center side, restarting the engine by injecting the fuel into the compression-stroke-in-stop cylinder while applying the rotational force to the engine using the starter motor. In restarting the engine, when the fuel is injected in the compression-stroke-in-stop cylinder, the controller controls the fuel injector to perform a pre-injection before a main injection and increase a total injection amount of the fuel for the pre-injection as the stop position of the compression-stroke-in-stop cylinder piston is further on a top dead center side.

An engine starting system includes a throttle valve, an alternator, an engine speed sensor and an electronic control unit (ECU). The ECU functionally includes an automatic engine stop controller for automatically stopping the engine by interrupting fuel injection when predefined automatic engine stop conditions are satisfied, and an automatic engine restart controller for automatically restarting the engine when predefined engine restart conditions are satisfied. The automatic engine stop controller sets the quantity of intake air at a level higher than a minimum quantity of intake air necessary for keeping the engine running, decreases the amount of electric power generated by the alternator in an early part of automatic engine stop control operation, and decreases the quantity of intake air and causes the alternator to once decrease the amount of electric power generated thereby at a point in time when the engine speed drops down to a predetermined reference engine speed, and causes the alternator to later increase the amount of electric power generated thereby.

Engine starting system

When an engine restart request is given in an engine stopping period which begins at a point of fuel supply interruption and ends at a point of complete engine stop, an engine starting system judges whether TDC engine speed detected immediately before is equal to or lower than a specific value 'A', the counted number of reverse running motions of the engine is 0, and a piston in an expansion stroke cylinder is relatively close to TDC. If the judgment result is in the affirmative with all these conditions satisfied, the engine starting system injects fuel into the expansion stroke cylinder and then ignites and combusts a mixture produced therein. The engine starting system also injects the fuel into a compression stroke cylinder and then ignites and combusts a mixture produced therein when a piston in the compression stroke cylinder has gone beyond TDC.
