At least a projected portion is formed on the transparent conductor in a pixel region, and a material of the projected portion is different from a material of the transparent conductor.

A liquid crystal display device including a liquid crystal display panel, a first driver circuit substrate, a second driver unit substrate and a flexible connector. The first driver circuit substrate provides electrical connection for at least one driver chip for the liquid crystal display panel with the first driver circuit being disposed at a peripheral portion of the liquid crystal display panel. The second driver circuit substrate has at least a connector to be connected with an external circuit with the second driver circuit substrate being disposed in superposed relation to at least a portion of the first driver circuit substrate. The flexible connector electrically connects at least a part of the first driver circuit substrate to at least a part of the second driver substrate.

A liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate and a second substrate facing the first substrate. A liquid crystal layer is provided between the first and second substrates. First and second gate lines are extending in a first direction, and first and second drain lines are extending in a second direction. A pixel area is defined by the gate lines and drain lines. The connection portion connects the first and second extending portions, wherein the first extending portion is vertically aligned to the hollow portion of the counter electrode and the second extending portion is vertically aligned to the solid portion of the counter electrode. An insulating layer is provided between the counter and pixel electrodes.

A liquid crystal panel has a pair of substrates SUB1, SUB2 sandwiching a liquid crystal layer LC, at least one of the substrates having electrodes DTM for selecting pixels, polarizing plates POL1, POL2 disposed on both sides of the liquid crystal panel to control the transmitted light depending on the state of orientation of liquid crystal molecules by applying a voltage to the electrodes, illumination means BL for illuminating the liquid crystal panel, a driving circuit for applying a voltage in accordance with a display image to the electrodes, and birefringent sheet PDS formed on the outer surface of one of the pair of substrates SUB1 and SUB2 such that the direction of the maximum contrast or luminance becomes the vertical direction and such that viewing angle characteristics become symmetric in the horizontal direction, wherein the liquid crystal layer LC is oriented such that the transmittances of the liquid crystal panel in use in the vertical direction and horizontal direction have asymmetric viewing angle dependence and such that the direction of the maximum contrast or luminance is a direction different from either of the vertical and horizontal directions.

A liquid crystal display device has a plurality of pixel elements, the optical transmissivity of which is varied by suitable electrical signals. The liquid crystal display device has electrodes which apply electric fields to a liquid crystal layer, the electric fields having components in a direction generally parallel to the liquid crystal layer. Each pixel element has at least one pixel electrode which extends in a common direction as a signal electrode and common electrodes which extend over several pixel elements. The common electrodes may be on the same side of the liquid crystal layer as the pixel and signal electrodes, or they may be on opposite sides. Each pixel may have two pixel electrodes with the signal electrode disposed therebetween, and there are then a pair of common electrodes with the pixel electrodes therebetween. The common electrodes may be common to adjacent pixel elements. The pixel electrodes and the common electrodes may be separated by an insulating film.
