An antireflection film capable of reliably preventing light (or laser light), which is incident on a glass substrate and which reaches a metal film, from being reflected by the metal film. The antireflection film provided between a metal film having a complex refractive index represented by N=n&#x2212;i&#xb7;kand a glass substrate having a refractive index Nincludes, from the metal film side: (A) a first dielectric layer having a refractive index N; (B) a second dielectric layer provided on the first dielectric layer and having a refractive index N; and (C) a third dielectric layer provided on the second dielectric layer and having a refractive index N, in which N&#x3c;n, N&#x3e;N, N&#x3c;N, and N&#x3e;Nhold. Accordingly, light which is incident on the glass substrate and which reaches the metal film is prevented from being reflected by the metal film.

Disclosed is a liquid lens apparatus. The liquid lens apparatus includes a liquid lens element and a fixing jig. A projection screen includes a plurality of convex portions serving as a light diffusion control portion, on the surface of a substrate. An optical thin film overlies the substrate and has convex portions having the same shape as that of the convex portions of the substrate. When external light enters the optical thin film with light in three primary color wavelength bands, the optical thin film reflects only the light in the three color wavelength bands and absorbs at least visible light of the external light. When light in the three primary color wavelength bands perpendicularly enters the optical thin film, the rays of the light have incident angles at the convex portions of the optical thin film and diffuse-reflected at angles twice the incident angles. Thus, a predetermined percentage of the light is diffused to increase the viewing angle of the screen.

The projection screen according to the present invention is a projection screen for projecting thereupon narrow-band tricolor wavelength band light to display an image, and comprises an optical thin film () which has high reflection properties regarding the narrow-band tricolor wavelength band light, and has high transmission properties regarding at least visible wavelength band light other than the wavelength band light, on a screen base (). With the projection screen according to the present invention configured as above, the optical thin film () serves as a so-called band filter. That is to say, the optical thin film () particularly reflects narrow-band tricolor wavelength band light and transmits light of other wavelengths, thereby functioning as a narrow-band tricolor wavelength bandwidth filter acting to separate these.

A method for forming an optical component includes (i) depositing optical layers on a base, and (ii) controlling a thickness of a tuning layer by (a) depositing the tuning layer on the optical layers, (b) measuring a first optical characteristic, (c) measuring a second optical characteristic after continued deposition of the tuning layer, (d) determining whether the second optical characteristic has decreased compared to the first optical characteristic, (e) when the second optical characteristic has not decreased, continuing deposition of the tuning layer and returning to steps (ii)(b)-(e), when the second optical characteristic has decreased, terminating the depositing and removing a portion of the tuning layer formed during a period of time defined from when an increase/decrease of the second optical characteristic is stopped to when the second optical characteristic is changed to be decreased, and (f) adding a layer of a lower refractive index on the tuning layer.
