Four embodiments of fuel air injectors wherein variations in the amount of fuel discharged due to the existence of pressure variations between the injector valve and its seat in the fuel injector are minimized. This is done by provided a restricted orifice downstream of the point of fuel injection so that combustion chamber pressures are dampened from the fuel injector. In all embodiments of the invention the injector valve is a poppet valve having a configured stem portion for slideably supporting the poppet valve within the housing while permitting flow therepast. In two embodiments, the fuel is delivered to the injector above the configured portion of the poppet valve and in two embodiments the fuel is delivered below the configured portion of the poppet valve for improving responsiveness.

Fuel air injector

The present invention is an injection system including an injection device. The injection device includes a pumping chamber and an electrically operated device associated with the pumping chamber which, when energized, is capable of providing a rapid increase in localized fluid pressure in said pumping chamber without reciprocating a piston in a cylinder bore. A discharge port associated with the pumping chamber permits discharging of fluid displaced by the localized pressure increase. The injection system includes a circuit providing an energizing voltage to the electrically operated device, and a control for changing at least one characteristic of the energizing voltage selected from the group consisting of: the peak energizing voltage, the rate at which said energizing voltage increases, the rate at which said energizing voltage decreases, the duration of energization, and the frequency of energization.

Fuel injection system

A number of embodiments of high pressure pumps for internal combustion engines having vertically extending output shafts. In each embodiment, the high pressure pump has its pump driving shaft rotatable about an axis that is parallel to the crankshaft axis and is driven by the crankshaft. This arrangement lends itself to application in outboard motors. The high pressure pump includes an integral lubricating pump for lubricating components of the high pressure pump.

Vertical engine

A fuel injection system is provided with an interior pumping chamber (94) which is connected to a fuel inlet (98). A pumping element (90) is provided with piezoelectric elements (124) which are interspaced between electrodes (126, 128). The pumping element (90) is electrically connected to an ECU (58). Activation of the piezoelectric elements causes pumping element (90) to expand and thereby impart pressure from a pressure surface (112) which extends into the pumping chamber (94). Fuel in the pressure chamber, as a result of the piezoelectric elements is pushed from the pressure chamber and through an injection valve (116). The applicants are reminded that formal drawings are now required. Further, as noted in the Office Action of Dec. 16, 1999, in FIG. 2, numeral 124 should be changed to indicate mounting plate 121. On drawing sheet 6, FIG. 6a and FIG. 6b should be indicated.

A number of embodiments of two-cycle engines employing Schnurle-type scavenging. In addition and in some embodiments, a ramble port is also incorporated so as to introduce a tumble charge into the combustion chamber and reduce the likelihood of fresh charge from exiting from the exhaust port. This tumble charge may be utilized to achieve stratification, and the fuel charge may be delivered to the combustion chamber through the tumble port or in proximity to it. Various arrangements are shown for controlling the amount of scavenge flow to improve stratification and fuel vaporization.

Scavenge control for engine

A fuel supply device for delivering pressurized fuel to the fuel injection valves of an internal combustion engine, wherein a pressurizing device pressurizes a fuel distribution line independently of a high pressure pump, which further raises and maintains the pressure of the fuel distribution line. This independent pressurization by the pressurizing device reduces the time required for the high pressure pump to raise fuel pressure to a level desirable for fuel injection, thus reducing the time it takes to start such an engine.

Fuel supply device

Two embodiments of motor vehicles powered by two cycle crankcase compression internal combustion engines having air fuel injectors. The air fuel injectors are mounted in the cylinder head but are disposed in such a position so that the fuel injector portion of the fuel air injector extends toward the high side of the hood to permit accessibility without sacrificing the use of a low hood line.

Fuel injected automotive engine

A fuel injection system for a two cycle crankcase compression internal combustion engine including a first injector that supplies fuel directly to the combustion chamber of the engine. An induction system is provided for inducting air into the crankcase chamber of the engine and in a multiple cylinder engine this includes a manifold having a single inlet. A throttle body having a throttle valve controls the flow of air through the inlet and a second fuel injector sprays fuel into the throttle body upstream of the throttle valve and against the throttle valve in certain positions of the throttle valve. In accordance with one disclosed embodiment of the invention, the second fuel injector supplies the fuel requirements for maximum power while the first fuel injector supplies the fuel requirements for low and mid range performance, but does not have adequate capacity to supply all of the fuel for high range performance.

Fuel injection system including supplemental fuel injector

A fuel air injection system for a multiple cylinder engine wherein an air manifold is rigidly affixed to all of the fuel air injectors so as to form a unitary assembly that can be removed from the engine as a unit.

Air fuel injector assembly

An air fuel injector system for a two cycle crankcase compression internal combustion engine, including an insulating housing encircling and enclosing at least a portion of the air fuel injectors for sound deadening. In addition, air is circulated through this housing to cool the injectors. The circulated air is air that is bypassed from an air compressor to maintain regulated pressure for the air fuel injectors.
