A pair of link arms each supported at one end thereof on an engine body for swinging movement about an axis parallel to a rotational axis for a valve-operating cam are connected at the other ends, for relative turning movement about an axis parallel to the rotational axis, directly to a rocker arm having a valve abutment abutting against an engine valve and a cam abutment contacting with the valve-operating cam. At least any one of the link arms is swingably supported at one end thereof on the engine body for continuous movement within a plane perpendicular to a rotational axis for the valve-operating cam. Such an arrangement ensures that a valve-operating system can be constructed compactly, and the opening lift amount of the engine valve can be changed continuously, while ensuring an excellent followability to the valve-operating cam.

Valve-actuating for internal combustion engine

A valve operating system in an internal combustion engine includes an associative-operation switchover means capable of switching over the associative operation of a pair of rocker arms disposed adjacent each other and the releasing of the associative-operation. The associative-operation switchover means is provided between a plurality of rocker arms including the rocker arms disposed adjacent each other. In such valve operating system, through-bores are coaxially provided in support walls of the rocker arm, and opposite ends of a roller shaft are fitted and fixed in the through-bores. A spring-receiving member is mounted to the roller shaft for receiving a return spring. Thus, when the roller shaft with the return spring of the associative-operation switchover means accommodated therein is mounted to the rocker arm, it is possible to facilitate the processing and to reduce the size and weight of the rocker arm.

Valve operating system in internal combustion engine

In a valve operating system in an internal combustion engine, a swinging support section provided at a base end of a rocker arm is swingably carried on a rocker shaft mounted in a cylinder head. A plurality of valve abutments are provided at a tip end of the rocker arm and capable of being individually put into abutment against upper ends of a plurality of engine valves, and a cam abutment is provided on the rocker arm in an intermediate portion between the swinging support section and each of the valve abutments to come into contact with a valve operating cam. The swinging support section comprises a thinner cylindrical portion surrounding the rocker shaft, and thicker cylindrical portions which are formed at a thickness larger than that of the thinner cylindrical portion into a cylindrical shape to surround the rocker shaft and which are integrally and continuously provided at axially opposite ends of the thinner cylindrical portion, respectively. Thus, it is possible to enhance the durability of the rocker arm, while avoiding an increase in weight of the rocker arm.

In a valve operating system in an internal combustion engine, a swinging support section provided at a base end of a rocker arm is swingably carried on a rocker shaft, and tappet screws are threadedly fitted in a plurality of boss portions formed at a tip end of the rocker arm and arranged in a direction parallel to an axis of the rocker shaft, so that they can be individually put into abutment against upper ends of a plurality of engine valves. Cam abutments are provided on the rocker arm in an intermediate portion between the swinging support section and the boss portions to come into contact with a valve operating cam. The boss portions are interconnected by a connection wall having a plurality of wall portions which intersect each other in a plane perpendicular to the axis of the rocker shaft. Thus, the rigidity of the tip end of the rocker arm is enhanced sufficiently.

A valve moving apparatus of an internal combustion engine has an intake camshaft with an intake variable cam piece for opening and closing an intake valve, and an exhaust camshaft with an exhaust variable cam piece for opening and closing an exhaust valve. Each variable cam piece has a low speed cam section and a high speed cam section and is movable axially relatively to the camshaft. A hydraulic driving mechanism is provided for moving the variable cam piece axially in accordance with engine operation condition. The driving mechanism has a driving piston and arms touching both sides of the variable cam piece. When valve operating characteristic of the intake valve or the exhaust valve is changed corresponding to engine operation condition, response is improved. The engine can be miniaturized.

Valve moving apparatus of an internal combustion engine

In a valve operating system in an internal combustion engine, a rocker arm has a plurality of valve abutments provided thereon and capable of being individually put into abutment against upper ends of a plurality of engine valves cam abutments, and also has cam abutments provided thereon to come into contact with a valve operating cam. Wall-removed portions are formed in the rocker arm at locations corresponding to the cam abutments and open at opposite sides of the rocker arm. Thus, it is possible to provide a reduction in weight of the rocker arm.

A camera with a magnetic recording device that may record optional data on a magnetic recording layer of a photo filmstrip while the photo filmstrip is advanced by one frame after each exposure. The optional data is print number data designating the number of copies to print from a picture frame and/or caption data designating a content and a language of a caption to print with a picture frame. The optional data is selectable by photographers for each picture frame by operating a multi-operation button when the camera is put in a mode set-up standby stage upon a shift switch being turned on by pushing a shift button. The multi-operation button is virtually divided into four sections. The camera is put in a print number setting mode when one of the sections that is provided with a mark indicating the print number setting mode, is pressed in the mode set-up standby stage. The camera is put in a caption setting mode when another section that is provided with a mark indicating the caption setting mode, is pressed in the mode set-up stage. The print number data or the caption data as selected in the print number setting mode or the caption setting mode is stored in a RAM, and read out from the RAM when the magnetic recording device records it on the magnetic recording layer.

One of adjacent rocker arms in a valve operating system of an engine is provided with first and second support walls. A roller is disposed between the first and second support walls to come into rolling contact with cams. A cylindrical roller shaft, supporting the roller, is provided between the first and second support walls, so that a switchover pin of an associative-operation switchover means can be slidably fitted into the roller shaft in response to the movement thereof. The roller shaft is press-fitted into at least a second one of the first and second support walls, and a press-fit margin for the roller shaft press-fitted into the second support wall on the side of the other rocker arm is set smaller than a press-fit margin for the roller shaft press-fitted into the second support wall on the side of the roller.

A camera equipped with a date recording device which has a function switch selectively operative in two functions, an operation mode setting function for setting a specific operation mode of the camera and a display mode setting function for selectively setting display modes of the date/time display device, a function changing switch for causing the function switch to select one of the two functions. The date/time display device displays a time thereon when the function switch is operative with the operation mode setting function and flashes on and off at least one of figures of figures indicating the time when operative with said display mode setting function.

In a selectable data recording mode for setting freely selectable character data and for recording them on a photographic film concurrently with photographing, an array of characters is displayed as data to be revised. One of these characters is designated to be changed by shifting the position of blinking along a linear display. Thereafter, upon depression of a key, a plurality of character groups of various kinds are displayed from one kind to another in a predetermined sequence. When a desired kind of character group is displayed, a desired one of character groups of this kind is selected by another key, and a character to be set is selected from among the one group. Each time a character to be set is selected, the character is temporarily stored in a memory, and the character data to be revised are displayed so as to designate the next character to be changed and, thereafter, the character groups are displayed so as to permit selecting a new character to be set. When the data revision is completed, the new character data are stored until revised.

Method and apparatus for displaying recordable data in a camera

Continuous photography control for a camera wherein an autofocus system is provided, and a motor is used commonly to move a taking lens for focusing and to open and close a shutter for exposure. When a mode switch is operated to set a continuous photography mode wherein plural exposures are continuously performed, the motor is driven to move the taking lens from an initial position into an in-focus position that is determined by the autofocus system and, thereafter, to open and close the shutter a selected number of times while maintaining the taking lens in the in-focus position. The taking lens is returned to the initial position after the selected number of exposures are performed. Alternatively, when another mode switch is operated to set a photography mode wherein only a single exposure is performed per one depression of the shutter button, then the taking lens is moved from the initial position to the in-focus position; the shutter is opened and closed only once; and then the taking lens is moved back to the initial position.

Method and apparatus for controlling continuous photography

A lens position detecting device comprises at least two columns of contacts each having a plurality of contacts, the columns being disposed side by side, and a brush having a plurality of brush segments each for contacting the contacts of the corresponding one of the columns and detecting a voltage at a contact thereof. Each contact of one column is shifted by a predetermined amount from the contacts of an adjacent column. The voltage at one contact is different from that at another contact of the same column, and these different voltages detectable at the contacts of one column constitute the same group as for the other columns. The lens position is determined depending on the combination of at least two voltages detected through the brush segments. The lens positions are thus divisible into a greater number of increments at the same time that the device is composed of a smaller number of elements.

A battery check system for a device which can be supplied with power either from a battery pack or from a D.C. plug adapted to be connected to an A.C. source by way of an AC/DC converter is provided with a large current load check mode for checking the supply voltage under a large load condition and a small current load check mode for checking the supply voltage under a small load. There is provided a mode switching means for setting the mode of the battery check system to the large current load check mode when said device is to be supplied with power from the battery pack and to the small current load check mode when said device is to be supplied with power through the D.C. plug.
