A battery monitoring apparatus includes wire sections each connected to a node of corresponding adjacent two of the unit cells of a battery pack at one end thereof, and branched into a first branch section and a second branch section at another end thereof. Each of the first and second branch sections is constituted of a positive part connected to a positive electrode of the corresponding unit cell and a negative part connected to a negative electrode of the corresponding unit cell. The battery monitoring apparatus includes an equalizing switch provided between each of the first wire pairs, and a voltage detector to detect a voltage between each first wire pair, and an equalizing section which performs an equalizing process to equalize a terminal voltage of each unit cell by turning on the corresponding equalizing switch depending on a result of voltage detection by the voltage detector.

Battery monitoring apparatus

A set battery which generates a high voltage comprises a number of battery modules connected to each other in series. A module voltage of each of the battery modules is detected by a corresponding differential voltage detecting circuit and is transmitted to an A/D convertor. Each of Several voltage detecting blocks is constituted by a plurality of the differential voltage detecting circuits for detecting module voltages of a plurality of the battery modules contiguous to each other. Each of the differential voltage detecting circuits belonging to the same voltage detecting block is applied with a common reference potential which is used to detect the module voltage. The reference potential is set to values which differ from each other for the respective voltage detecting blocks.

Voltage detecting device for set battery

A device for detecting a voltage of an individual unit cell included in a combination battery consisting of a number of unit cells connected in series. The unit cells are divided into several groups, and a voltage divider circuit having a cell-side resistor and a reference-side resistor is connected to each unit cell. A divided potential of each unit cell is supplied to a cell voltage detector from each voltage divider circuit. Also, a reference potential that is common to a cell group is supplied to the detector from a junction connecting two neighboring cell groups. The cell voltage detector determines the voltage of each unit cell, group by group, based on a difference between the divided potential and the reference potential. Since the reference potential is common to all the voltage divider circuits in one cell group, the voltage divider circuits can be simplified. To further simplify the circuits, the reference-side resistors for the first cell group are commonly used as the reference-side resistors for other cell groups.
