A non-aqueous cosmetic composition contains (A) activated zeolite, (B) a polyhydric alcohol having a molecular weight not higher than 1,000, and (C) a high molecular compound soluble in the ingredient (B). When shaken upon use, the cosmetic composition permits ready and even dispersion of the zeolite, exhibits good spreadability and compatibility on the skin and can be readily applied over a wide area. Moreover, the cosmetic composition also has excellent massaging effect.

Cosmetic composition

The invention relates to a cosmetic composition comprising (A) a polyhydric alcohol and (B) a finely particulate metal oxide, wherein water is substantially not contained. The cosmetic composition has an optimum viscosity, undergoes no precipitation of particles, spreads well upon use and has good easiness of washing off and is hence particularly useful as a massaging cosmetic.

A cosmetic comprises an alkyl phosphate represented by the formula (I): ##STR1## in which R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 independently represent hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having from 1 to 36 carbon atoms, and R.sub.3 represents an alkyl group having from 1 to 36 carbon atoms, and a cosmetic powder. The cosmetic is water-repellent in nature, unlikely to break by sweat and is readily spread on the skin with improved softness due to incorporation of the alkyl phosphate. The cosmetic is prepared by first mixing the cosmetic powder and the alkyl phosphate dissolved in an organic solvent under heating conditions. Subsequently, the solvent is distilled off to form an alkyl phosphate coating on the indivisual particles. The coated particles are mixed with other cosmetic ingredients.

Metal salts of monoalkyl phosphates of the following formula ##STR1## in which each R represents a saturated or unsaturated, linear or branched hydrocarbon group having from 8 to 32 carbon atoms, and M represents an alkaline earth metal or divalent transition metal. The metal salts are particularly suitable as cosmetic powders, fillers for resins, and lubricants, parting agents and pigment dispersants for polymeric compounds. When used as cosmetic powders, the metal salts improve spreadability, moistness, smoothness, adherence, transparency and covering power of cosmetics. A novel cosmetic comprises an oil gel formed by at least one metal salt of a dialkyl phosphate of the following general formula (I), (II) or (III) ##STR1## in which each R.sub.1 and each R.sub.2 independently represent a saturated or unsaturated, linear or branched hydrocarbon group having from 8 to 36 carbon atoms, m is an integer of from 1 to 3, n is an integer of from 0 to 2, k is a value of 1 or 2, and 1 is a value of 0 to 1, and a cosmetic oil. The metal salt of the dialkyl phosphate can yield a good oil gel when it is incorporated into the oil in an amount as small as 0.1 to 10% of the oil. Further, the dialkyl phosphate retains good feel of oils without causing oozing of the oil, crazing, discoloration, perspiration and the like.
