A method is provided for manufacturing ophthalmically-acceptable, distortion-free silicone hydrogel contact lenses without the use of volatile organic solvents in the manufacturing process. The contact lenses are extract with an extraction liquid comprising an aqueous solution of a non-volatile organic solvent, such as ethyl lactate.

Silicone hydrogel contact lenses are formed from the reaction product of a polymerizable composition comprising at least one acrylate-containing siloxane monomer, at least one hydrophilic vinyl-containing monomer, and at least one vinyl-containing cross-linking agent. The contact lenses have ophthalmically-acceptable ionoflux values and surface wettability, and can be manufactured without the use of volatile organic solvents.

Silicone hydrogel contact lenses are formed from the reaction product of a polymerizable composition comprising at least one hydrophilic vinyl amide-containing monomer, at least one acrylate-containing siloxane monomer, and at least one hydrophilic vinyl ether-containing monomer. The contact lenses have ophthalmically-acceptable surface wettability and can be manufactured without the use of volatile organic solvents.

Silicone hydrogel contact lenses are described. The lenses are derived from a polymerizable composition including 30-60 unit parts by weight of a hydrophilic monomer(s) having one N-vinyl group, 10 to 50 unit parts by weight of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA), and a first siloxane monomer component comprising a siloxane monomer of formula (1) as described herein or a siloxane monomer of formula (2) as described herein or a siloxane monomer of formula (3) as described herein or any combination thereof, where the total amount of siloxane monomer(s) present in the polymerizable composition is from 15 to 40 unit parts by weight. Wettable silicone hydrogel contact lenses

Disclosed herein are photopolymerizable compositions and formulations that comprise photochromic dyes, photochromic blue light blocking dyes, permanent dyes, permanent blue blocking dyes, and/or their combinations. In some variations, these formulations are suited for example, for sandwiching between lens blanks to form semi-finished lens assemblies to form a tinted lens useful in sunglasses. The formulations are also suitable for correcting optical aberrations, and may provide a photochromic effect when exposed to sunlight.
