A display apparatus includes a first substrate in which a plurality of pixel areas and a non-pixel area around the pixel areas are defined, a cavity-defining layer disposed on the first substrate and defining a plurality of cavities corresponding to the pixel areas, an insulating layer disposed on the cavity-defining layer and in the cavities, a liquid crystal layer disposed on the insulating layer in the cavities, and a second substrate disposed on the insulating layer to cover the liquid crystal layer. The liquid crystal layer has a same refractive index as the cavity-defining layer when the liquid crystal layer is not driven. The liquid crystal layer has a greater refractive index than the cavity-defining layer when the liquid crystal layer is driven.

Display apparatus and method of fabricating the same

A display device includes a substrate on which a pixel area and a non-pixel area around the pixel area are defined, an encapsulation layer disposed on the substrate, a light conversion layer including a light converter disposed on the encapsulation layer to overlap the pixel area, and a light guide layer disposed between the encapsulation layer and the light conversion layer to define a first cavity that overlaps the pixel area and a second cavity that overlaps the non-pixel area.

A display apparatus includes a display module which displays an image and a backlight unit disposed below the display module. The backlight unit includes a light source which generates light, a light guide member including a light incident surface which receives the light from the light source and an opposite surface facing the light incident surface in a first direction, and a light collection member which is disposed on the light guide member and receives the light from the light guide member to control a traveling direction of the light so that the light travels to the display module. The light collection member includes an upper light collection layer including upper light collection patterns, each of which has a curved top surface and a lower light collection layer including lower light collection patterns and an intermediate layer which covers the lower light collection patterns.

A display device may include a first substrate, a first color conversion unit, a second color conversion unit, a light diffusion unit, and a first wall. The first color conversion unit is located on the first substrate. The second color conversion unit is disposed on the first substrate and is spaced from the first color conversion unit. The light diffusion unit is disposed between the first color conversion unit and the second color conversion unit. The first wall is disposed between the first color conversion unit and the light diffusion unit. The first color conversion unit includes a first-color conversion layer. The first-color conversion layer overlaps two pixel regions.

A backlight unit includes a light source generating light, a light guide plate guiding the light in an upper direction, and an optical member disposed on the light guide plate to condense the light provided from the light guide plate in the upper direction. A top surface of the light guide plate includes a plurality of circular areas and a peripheral area around the circular areas. Each of the circular areas includes a central circular area and a ring area surrounding the central circular area. The optical member includes a first insulating layer disposed on the light guide plate and spaced apart from the light guide plate by predetermined distances in the ring areas and the peripheral area to define a plurality of cavities, and a second insulating layer disposed on the first insulating layer.

A display apparatus includes a display panel and an optical member disposed on the display panel. The optical member includes a base substrate on which a plurality of first areas including a plurality of first sub-areas and a plurality of second sub-areas surrounding the first sub-areas, respectively, and a second area around each of the first areas are defined, and a first insulating layer disposed on the base substrate, where the first insulating layer includes an inclined portion disposed in the second sub-areas and forming an angle with a top surface of the base substrate.

A color filter substrate includes: a first substrate including a first sub-pixel region corresponding to a non-white color region and a second sub-pixel region corresponding to a white color region and adjacent to the first sub-pixel region; a light-blocking pattern disposed on the first substrate, the light-blocking pattern including a first opening corresponding to the first sub-pixel region and a second opening corresponding to the second sub-pixel region; a first color filter having a first color and disposed in the first sub-pixel region; and a transparent layer disposed in the second sub-pixel region and on the first color filter. The light-blocking pattern further includes a disconnected portion between the first sub-pixel region and the second sub-pixel region, and the first and second openings are coupled to each other via the disconnected portion.
