Three dimensional imaging screen for multiviewer

A multi-view image display system provides a plurality of multi-view three-dimensional (3-D) images, using the mask type of image arrangement plate where the images grouped by corresponding pixels are arranged in a same order as that of the pixels. Each pixel cell is provided with an image display region which is divided into a plurality of subcells arranged depending on arrangement structure of the viewing zones, and each of the subcells transmits or reflects the lights from point light sources using its whole area, thereby allowing the transmitted or reflected lights to be collected in each of the viewing zones to form each of the view images.

A multi-layer image display system and method thereof, in which liquid crystal type image display units for displaying the images according to depth necessary for obtaining the stereoscopic image are arranged according to layers at a predetermined interval without overlapping each other along the rotary axis and rotated as displayed the layer image corresponding to each image display unit, by which the screen is on to express the stereoscopic image when each image display unit arrives at the user's position; and another method in which the reflector or half mirror is installed instead of the image display unit and the layer image corresponding to the relative depth of the reflector or half mirror is synchronized with the rotation speed to express the stereoscopic image in the fixed high speed display device. The stereoscopic image obtained by the multi-image capable of corresponding to the four optical functions of the eyes such as binocular parallax and moving parallax for providing the first depth recognition function of the eyes and convergence and accommodation for providing the fine depth recognition function used for recognizing the relative position of the specific image according to depth more correctly, so that fatigue of the eyes incurred in watching the stereoscopic image can be prevented.

Multi-layer image display system and method thereof

An optical sensing apparatus for use in a ring laser interferometer measuring a physical quantity of an object includes a ring laser cavity formed by several internal mirrors, of which at least two internal mirrors are partly light-transmitting. The ring laser cavity generates two laser beams of an identical wavelength, the two laser beams propagating in counter direction to each other in the ring laser cavity. External mirrors are disposed at a distance from the ring laser cavity, whereby portions of the two laser beams, which pass through the internal mirrors and travel on optical paths toward the external mirrors, are reflected back into the ring laser cavity. The apparatus further includes at least one platform for mounting the external mirrors.

A multiview three-dimensional image display apparatus comprises: a light source, a shutter plate for selectively passing light from the source; a diffuser immediately adjacent the shutter plates an optical element in front of the diffuser for forming a viewing zone; and a transparent display immediately adjacent the optical element for displaying multiview images thereon, wherein the multiview images are displayed based on a time-multiplexing technique and the viewing zone is formed in front of the transparent display. The apparatus can be readily modified into a multiview apparatus that includes a plurality of light sources. Since a plurality of viewing zones can be simultaneously formed in the apparatus, it is possible for multiple viewers to simultaneously observe the same three-dimensional image.

The apparatus for fabricating a lenticular plate comprises a collimator for collimating a beam from a laser to a predetermined diameter, a mask for adjusting the intensity distribution of the collimated beam, a photoplate on which a layer of photosensitive material is deposited, means for directing the beam which has passed through the mask to a desired region of the photoplate, and means for controlling the mask and the means for directing the beam such that the beam of predetermined intensity distribution irradiates on the desired region of the photoplate.

Method for fabricating a lenticular plate

An apparatus for making a high quality reflection type holographic optical element (HOE) using a single input laser beam, including a reflective mirror, a holographic photoplate having a photo emulsion layer on a surface nearest the reflective mirror, a cassette for retaining the reflective mirror and the holographic photoplate, and a refractive index matching fluid containing a light absorbent dye for absorbing an input laser beam. The cassette is immersed in the fluid so that fluid is retained between the photo emulsion layer of the holographic photoplate and a reflective surface of the reflective mirror. Parasitic interference patterns are suppressed by heating the refractive index matching fluid with the input laser beam, which causes a shift of the phase of the parasitic beams with respect to the phase of the beams responsible for recording the HOE. If the photo emulsion layer of the holographic photoplate consists of a dichromated gelatin (DCG), then a photo sensitizer agent (e.g., ammonium dichromate; DCA) of the DCG is used as a light absorbent dye to be added in the refractive index matching fluid such that the photo sensitizer agent does not drain out of the DCG into the refractive index matching fluid.

A method of producing a holographic screen for projection of the three-dimensional color images is proposed, where a narrow and elongate slit-shaped diffuser is recorded on the hologram as an object to ensure the well-defined viewing zone forming in the course of the image projection. As compared with the previous art the diverging reference beam is used for the screen recording, therefore only small size optical elements are used in the recording setup. When screen is illuminated by the projector, the reconstructed real images of the diffuser are formed behind the screen for each color of the projector light spectrum. A viewing zone, wherefrom a full color image can be seen as projected on the screen, is obtained by making the length of the diffuser big enough to provide overlaps of the various color diffuser images of the projector light, diffracted on the screen. The parameters required for the recording of the holographic screen, including the position of a photoplate with respect to the diffuser, the distance from which an image is observed, the position of a reference wave point source with respect to the diffuser, and so on, are determined by consideration of the phase relationships between the reference, object, projector and reconstructed waves on the photographic plate surface.

Method of producing a holographic projection screen for displaying a three-dimensional color images

A multiview three-dimensional image display system comprises an image projection screen, two image generation components, a bifold mirror, an spatial light modulator, and projection optics. Each of the image generation components generates successive finite time sequences of time-multiplexed multiview images and thus form a channel of multiview images. Each of the reflecting surfaces of the bifold mirror reflects a different one of the two channels of multiview images. The spatial light modulator comprises a plurality of strip-like shutters, each of which transmits a different one of the finite time sequences of time-multiplexed multiview images. The projection optics projects the images through the spatial light modulator onto the image projection screen, where the spatial light modulator is imaged to make a single viewing zone.

Apparatus for measuring characteristics of a reflection-type holographic optical element

A multiview three-dimensional imaging system includes a large-aperture objective for focusing multiview image rays of an object incident from multiple viewing directions into a convergent zone; a scanner for scanning the focused multiview image rays at the convergent zone; and a sensor and a display for the scanned image rays. The scanner segments the focused multiview image rays into two-dimensional images from each of the multiple viewing directions. The multiview three-dimensional imaging system enables image formation with minimal light loss and image enlargement, so that a screen of arbitrary size can be employed to display the images.

A multi-channel acousto-optic spatial modulator for fast signal processing by a plurality of acousto-optic modulating cells connected in a line. The multi-channel acousto-optic spatial modulator in accordance with the present invention comprises a plurality of modulating cells each for modulating the incident light, acoustic waves being created within each of said plurality of modulating cells; and a plurality of absorbing plates each interposed between said two modulating cells for shielding the acoustic wave created within one of said two modulating cells from being propagated into the other of said two modulating cells. Each of the modulating cells comprises a unit crystal upon which a light is incident, a piezoelectric transducer coupled to the top surface of the unit crystal and having one pair of electrodes for allowing an acoustic wave to be created in the unit crystal in response to the signal applied to the one pair of electrodes; and an acoustic wave absorber coupled to the top surface of the unit crystal for absorbing the acoustic wave propagating in the unit crystal. Thus, a moving diffraction grating is formed within the unit crystal as the acoustic wave created by the piezoelectric transducer is reflected by one side surface of the unit crystal and propagated to the other side surface. The plurality of modulating cells are connected such that the orientation of the top surface of the unit crystal alternates with every cell.

Multi-channel acousto-optic spatial modulator

A color holographic head up display which can be mounted on, for example, an airplane or automobile for projecting a color image displayed on a screen. The color holographic head up display in accordance with the present invention comprises an information display comprising a 2-dimensional array of pixels for displaying information to be projected, a relay optical system for relaying an image displayed on the information display, and a holographic combiner having holographic optical elements whose number is the same as the number of the pixels of the information display for delivering the image from the relay optical system to the viewing zone of the human eye, the holographic optical elements being arranged to correspond to the pixels of the information display. According to the present invention, the surrounding scenery and navigation information of a color image are simultaneously projected without noise due to intermodulation, and a high diffraction efficiency can be achieved.
