Disclosed herein are a food storage apparatus with improved security performance due to performing of a lock/unlock function from far away and a method of controlling the same. Also, provided are a food storage apparatus which allows a user far away to take appropriate measures by reporting approach of an unauthorized person, opening of a door, etc. or to check a thief or stolen food and a method of controlling the same. The food storage apparatus includes a body in which a storage space for storing food is formed, a door installed on the body to be openable, a locking unit which locks the door, a communication unit which communicates with an external terminal to receive a locking command, and a control unit which controls the locking unit to lock the door when the locking command is received from the terminal.

A refrigerator includes a carbonated water tank in which carbonated water is stored; a water level sensor sensing a water level of carbonated water stored in the carbonated water tank; a water tank supplying filtered water to the carbonated water tank; a carbon dioxide cylinder supplying carbon dioxide to the carbonated water tank; and a controller, if the water level of carbonated water sensed by the water level sensor is less than or equal to a predetermined minimum water level, supplying the filtered water to the carbonated water tank, and if supply of the filtered water is completed, supplying the carbon dioxide to the carbonated water tank so as to produce the carbonated water. If the carbonated water is discharged, the controller controls the water level sensor to sense the water lever of the carbonated water stored in the carbonated water tank.

A refrigerator may include a carbonated water tank in which carbonated water is stored; a water tank supplying filtered water to the carbonated water tank; a carbon dioxide cylinder supplying carbon dioxide to the carbonated water tank; a dispenser discharging the carbonated water or the filtered water; and a controller, if the filtered water is supplied to the carbonated water tank and supply of the filtered water is completed, supplying the carbon dioxide to the carbonated water tank so as to produce the carbonated water, wherein the controller stops producing the carbonated water if a discharge instruction of the filtered water is input from a user or if a door of the refrigerator is opened while the carbonated water is produced. Filtered water and carbonated water can be selectively taken, and when a user wants to use filtered water or opens a door of a refrigerator while carbonated water is produced, the refrigerator that stops production of carbonated water is provided so that the user can be prevented from misunderstanding that the refrigerator is broken.

The refrigerator includes an ice making tray making ice therein, an ejector separating the ice, an ice storage storing the separated ice, an ice full state sensing lever detecting the ice full state of the ice storage, an ice making motor driving the ejector and the ice full state sensing lever, and a controller detecting the ice full state by driving the ice full state sensing lever by rotating the ice making motor in an ice moving direction, and detecting release of the ice full state by driving the ice full state sensing lever by rotating the ice making motor in the opposite direction after the ice full state is detected.

A refrigerator and a defrosting method thereof which are capable of achieving an appropriate defrosting operation even when a part of constituent elements included in a defrosting system fails. The defrosting method includes the steps of determining whether or not a predetermined first defrosting completion condition is usable, if the predetermined first defrosting completion condition is usable, executing a first defrosting mode, which uses the predetermined first defrosting completion condition, and if the predetermined first defrosting completion condition is not usable, executing a second defrosting mode, which uses a predetermined second defrosting completion condition different from the predetermined first defrosting completion condition, and a defrosting execution determination condition different from that of the first defrosting mode.
