Techniques for visualizing events in a distributed system are provided. One or more recordings identifying events occurring on a software agent are received, where two of the events occurred effectively simultaneously. A visualization showing a timeline for the software agent is generated, where the visualization represents the events as icons on the timeline based on times associated with the events, and where the visualization includes a stacked icon representing the two events that occurred effectively simultaneously. A request indicating the stacked icon is received, and the stacked icon is updated to present a semi-circle arrangement of icons representing the two events that occurred effectively simultaneously. A causal chain of events related to a first event corresponding to the stacked icon is determined, and the visualization is updated based on the causal chain of events to present an ordered sequence of events.

Debugging through causality and temporal pattering in a event processing system

Certain aspects of the present disclosure relate to a method and apparatus for visualizing events received and processed by a plurality of software agents in a distributed system. Aspects of the present disclosure generally include receiving, for each software agent, a recording identifying one or more events occurring on that software agent, generating a visualization showing a timeline for one or more of the plurality of software agents wherein the visualization represents each event consumed or emitted by the one or more software agents as an icon on the timeline ordered based on the time the event is consumed or emitted, receiving a request indicating at least a first one of the icons in the visualization, determining, for the event corresponding to the first icon, a causal chain of events related to that event, and updating the icons corresponding to events in the causal chain of events to present an ordered sequence of events in the causal chain of events that occurred relative to the event corresponding to the first one of the icons.

Debugging through causality and temporal patterning in an event processing system

Data within a database are displayed to discover patterns of events in time-based data. A first display of a linear timeline indicating events within time-based data is provided. The linear timeline of the first display may be transformed into a second display to cluster the events within the time-based data, where the second display includes one or more from the group of a stacked linear timeline of the events, a polar (annular) timeline of the events, and a helical timeline of the events. Patterns of the events are revealed within the second display to identify event associations.

Identifying cyclic patterns of complex events

The invention is directed to synchronizing code from multiple Software Configuration Management (SCM) systems. A method according to an embodiment of the invention includes: obtaining source code from a foreign SCM system and a central SCM system; obtaining a list of files and directories from the foreign SCM system and the central SCM system; creating a batch file; iteratively verifying from the list of files and directories from the foreign SCM system source code whether each file is one of: a new directory, an existing directory, a new file, or an existing file; for each new file and new directory verified from the foreign SCM system, creating in the batch file a command to add the new directory or the new file to the central SCM system; and completing the batch file. Another embodiment includes merging files in the central SCM system.
