A lithium ion battery including a core-shell structured fire extinguishing particle is disclosed. When the battery is overheated to a predetermined temperature, a shell of the fire extinguishing particle coated on one surface or both surfaces of a porous separator is melted, a fire extinguishing material disposed in an inner space of the shell is released into an electrolytic solution of the battery, and as a result, it is possible to prevent the battery from being ignited or exploded even though the battery is overheated. Further, the melted shell clogs pores of the porous separator to block lithium ions from moving, such that the battery is blocked from being driven, thereby preventing the battery from being overheated any more.

A battery management system (BMS) may include a battery, a relay configured to electrically connect and disconnect the battery for supplying a voltage (an electric power) to an electric load to and from the electric load, the electric load configured to receive the voltage (the electric power) from the battery, to compare the received voltage (the electric power) with a reference value and to output a wakeup signal according to the compared result, when the relay is electrically connected, and a controller configured to wake up by the wakeup signal, to monitor a state of the battery and to control a state of the relay. It is possible to prevent overdischarge and overcharge of the battery by monitoring the battery through the electric load in a state in which a vehicle is turned off and switching the BSM to a wakeup state only if necessary.

Disclosed herein is a cooling control method for a battery management system in a vehicle in which battery cooling is controlled by according to the degree of battery durability deterioration. Specifically, the method of controlling battery cooling using a battery management system (BMS) configured to control a degree of cooling fan operation based on a battery temperature in the vehicle equipped with the battery and the cooling fan, includes the steps of increasing the degree of cooling fan operation compared normal conditions when an actual battery durability deterioration rate (Vt) measured using battery durability deterioration degree information during vehicle operation is higher than a predicted battery durability deterioration rate.

Cooling control method for battery management system in electric vehicle

A system for charging a vehicle battery includes a relay configured to establish/interrupt electrical connection between the vehicle battery and a vehicle system supplied with power from the vehicle battery, and a controller. The controller is configured to monitor a voltage of the battery, control the relay to interrupt the electrical connection when a voltage of the battery is less than or equal to a first predetermined reference value, and control the relay to establish the electrical connection when a predetermined condition is satisfied while the relay is electrically disconnected. The controller controls the relay to be electrically connected to charge the battery through an external power source while the electrical connection is interrupted, and then control a connection state of the relay based on the voltage of the battery, a voltage and current of the relay at a side of the vehicle system, and whether a vehicle is started.
