Disclosed is a flow-type energy storage device having an improved flow of fluid. The flow-type energy storage device stores electricity using a fluidic material, and includes a reaction region in which charge-discharge reaction of electricity is performed by the fluidic material, wherein the reaction region has an octagonal cross-section. The shape of the reaction region is controlled to thus improve the flowability of the fluidic material, thereby providing a flow-type energy storage device that has almost constant electrical properties even when a charging and discharging cycle is repeatedly performed. Further, the structures of an inlet and an outlet are not complicated and a separate part for controlling the flow of fluid is not used in the device, and accordingly, additional costs are not incurred during a process of manufacturing the flow-type energy storage device.

A pouch type secondary battery includes an electrode assembly and a pouch sheath material including a first pouch portion and a second pouch portion. The pouch-type secondary battery includes dual electrode leads wherein a first electrode lead is attached to the first pouch portion and a second electrode lead is attached to the second pouch portion. In the pouch-type secondary battery, electric current is interrupted by using a volumetric swelling phenomenon caused by swelling or pressure generated upon overcharge so that the battery may be prevented from being further charged. In addition, when pressure is increased by an additional reaction, venting occurs toward the inner lead portion of each of the dual electrode leads. As a result, it is possible to increase the stability of a battery cell, module and a pack received in the pouch, and thus to improve the life of a battery.

Secondary battery having improved safety

The present invention describes a component for a secondary battery and a manufacturing method thereof, and a secondary battery manufactured by using the component. The component for a secondary battery according to the present invention comprises a lead-free soldering bridge having a melting point of 150 to 300&#xb0; C. and containing tin (Sn) and copper (Cu) as a main ingredient; the first and second metal plates spaced therebetween through a gap and coupling with the lead-free soldering bridge. According to the present invention, when an over-current flows through the component for a secondary battery, the temperature of the lead-free soldering bridge is locally increased rapidly to melt the lead-free soldering bridge, thereby efficiently interrupting the flow of an over-current.

Component for secondary battery and manufacturing method thereof, and secondary battery and multi-battery system manufactured by using the component

The present invention relates to a cathode for a metal-air battery, a method for manufacturing the same, and a metal-air battery including the same. The cathode comprises a needle-shaped core including two or more species of metals selected from the group consisting of nickel, cobalt, manganese, zinc, iron, copper, and chrome, or a cobalt oxide; and a flake-shaped shell including an oxide containing two or more species of metals selected from the group consisting of nickel, cobalt, manganese, zinc, iron, copper, and chrome or a cobalt oxide. As such, the core-shell structure may lead to a reduction in the charge voltage of the metal-air battery as well as the taking of the good capacity characteristics of the transition metal oxide. Further, according to the present invention, the cathode for a metal-air battery may be produced without adding carbon or binder.

A secondary battery according to the present disclosure includes an electrode assembly, a first lead plate connected to the electrode assembly, a second lead plate disposed facing the first lead plate with a gap therebetween such that at least a portion of the second lead plate overlaps with at least a portion of the first lead plate, a metal bridge disposed within the gap to connect the first lead plate and the second lead plate, a first sealant disposed within the gap further outside than the metal bridge, a pouch case to receive the electrode assembly such that the second lead plate is drawn outside, and a second sealant interposed respectively between an inner surface of the pouch case and the first lead plate and between the inner surface of the pouch case and the second lead plate.

A battery pack includes a plurality of battery modules, each having at least one unit cell, a case for accommodating the unit cell and a bus bar electrically connected to the unit cell, and a connecting bar for connecting battery modules adjacent to each other among the plurality of battery modules, wherein at least one of the connecting bars includes a first metal plate, a second metal plate spaced apart from the first metal plate, and a metal bridge configured to connect the first metal plate and the second metal plate and having a lower melting point than the metal plate. A connecting element for a secondary battery according to the present disclosure includes a metal plate having a recess groove, a soldering pattern having a lower melting point than the metal plate and formed within the recess groove, and an insulation layer formed on at least one surface among both surfaces of the metal plate, and covering an area where the soldering pattern is formed. An overcurrent shut-off device according to an exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure includes a switching unit connected to both ends of a secondary battery, the switching unit being turned on by pressure caused by a swelling phenomenon occurring in the secondary battery, and a fusing unit, as a component installed on a path of an electric current flowing through the secondary battery, being ruptured when the switching unit is turned on, to interrupt the electric current flowing through the secondary battery. An electrode lead is applied as a part of at least one of a cathode lead and an anode lead of a secondary battery and includes a first metal plate and a second metal plate spaced apart from each other with a gap therebetween and having coating layers formed on the surfaces thereof except for surfaces of end portions thereof facing each others, and a metal bridge made of material having a lower melting point than the first metal plate and the second metal plate and buried in the gap so that the end portions are not exposed. Disclosed is a method for preparing a carbide-derived carbon-based anode active material. The method includes preparing carbide-derived carbon, and expanding pores of the carbide-derived carbon. Here, expanding of pores is performed as an activation process of heating the prepared carbide-derived carbon in the air. The pores formed inside the carbide-derived carbon can be expanded during the activation process in the preparation of the carbide-derived carbon-based anode active material.
